Cline Professorand Chair of the Department of Psychological Sciences at RiceUniversity. Dr. Salas’ research interests include uncovering whatfacilitates teamwork and team effectiveness in organizations;how and why does team training work; and how to optimizesimulation-based training. He has consulted with a variety ofhealthcare, oil and gas, manufacturing, pharmaceuticallaboratories, industrial and governmental organizations. Dr.Salas has co-authored over 450 journal articles and bookchapters and has co-edited 33 books. Dr. Salas is a pastPresident of the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychologyand the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. Keynote SpeakersSaturday 9:00 AM – Regina HolidayThe power of the Patient StoryPatient Rights Activist, Artist, Author, Speaker & Founder ofthe Walking GalleryRegina Holliday is known for painting a series of muralsdepicting the need for clarity and transparency in medicalrecords inspired by her husband Frederick Allen Holliday II.Afflicted with kidney cancer, Fred suffered poor carecoordination, a lack of access to data and a series of medicalerrors and, as a result, lost his battle.Continuing her advocacy through art, she started The Walking Gallery movement, where 400 volunteer members don business suits or blazers painted with either their story, their lovedone’s story, or their mission within healthcare. Walking Gallery members attend medicalconferences with a powerful visual story painted on their backs with the intention to help changepublic health policy. To date, she has painted over 270 canvases depicting the stories ofproviders working in HIT, pharma, medical organizations, and hospitals. Her latest book, TheWriting on the Wall (2015), a memoir, takes readers on an odyssey of abuse andempowerment.Regina Holliday travels the globe heralding her message of patient empowerment and inclusionin healthcare decision-making. Congratulations 2019 International Legacy ofCaring AwardsNameAnne BoykinContributions to IAHC and Caring ScienceAnne Boykin, PhD, RN, FAAN, Dean and Professor Emerita, Christine E. Lynn Collegeof Nursing, Boca Raton, Florida, has been contributing to the study and practice ofhuman caring and growth of caring associations since the early 1980s. As a chartermember of the National Caring Research Association, she was appointed to theAssociation Board from 1988 to 1990. Dr. Boykin was co-founder/leader in the 1989establishment of the International Association for Human Caring (IAHC), which evolvedfrom the National Caring Research Association. In the first official IAHC elections bymembership, she was elected President-elect from 1990-1993 and President from1993 to 1996. Dr. Boykin served as an inaugural co-Editor of the International Journalfor Human Caring (IJHC) from 1997-1999. Dr. Boykin’s leadership and influence inpromoting caring as the essence of nursing and health care are evident in her manyarticles and book publications, most notably her teaching and co-authoring of Nursingas Caring: A Model for Transforming Practice with Dr. Savina Schoenhofer. As Deanand Professor of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Dr. Boykin led thedevelopment of an exemplary scholarly curriculum and research program grounded incaring knowledge and hosted two IAHC conferences. With a mission and vision topreserve caring history, Dr. Boykin was instrumental in establishing the Archives ofCaring in Nursing at FAU. In retirement, she created the Anne Boykin Institute to furtherpromote and enrich the study, dialogue, and dissemination of caring knowledge andpractice.Marilyn RayMarilyn (Dee) Ray, PhD, RN, MS, MA, CTN-A, FSfAA, FAAN, as part of a small groupmeeting in the mid-1970s to study caring, attended the first formal National CaringConference in 1978 to present her caring research. She served on the conferenceAdvisory Board from 1981 to 1982, becoming a charter member of the newly formedNational Caring Research Association in 1987 that grew out of the Caring Conferences.Dr. Ray was an appointed Board member of the new Association from 1988 to 1990,was a co-founder/leader of the newly organized and renamed International Associationfor Human Caring in 1989, and served as an elected member of the IAHC Board from1990-1993. Dr. Ray’s presence and presentations at almost every IAHC conferenceover the decades are testimony to her scholarly contribution to caring knowledge andpractice. She created a Transcultural Caring Theory and her areas of expertise andresearch include: Transcultural Caring Science, Caring in Complex OrganizationalCultures, Bureaucratic Caring Theory (Organizational Culture Theory), ComplexityScience and translational research in practice culture, and Global Nursing. Dr. Ray hasalso contributed to student and other nurses’ growth in caring knowledge and practicethrough generous scholarships and mentoring. As a Professor Emerita and EminentScholar and Professor at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Christine E. Lynn College ofNursing, Boca Raton, Florida, Dr. Ray continues to mentor students, promote the goalsof Transcultural Nursing and caring science worldwide.11 P a g e

KathleenValentineKathleen Valentine, PhD, RN, a founding member of IAHC, is presently Director andAssociate Dean of Clemson University’s School of Nursing, and Chief NursingAcademic Officer of Prisma Health–Upstate. She has contributed to caring knowledgeand practice for many decades. As a charter member of the 1987 National CaringResearch Association, which was incorporated as the nonprofit InternationalAssociation for Human Caring (IAHC) in 1989, Dr. Valentine served as IAHC Presidentelect from 1994 to 1996 and IAHC President from 1996 to 1999. She worked toestablish fiscal stability, scholarly advancement and increased IAHC visibility. Mostnotably was her role in launching and serving as co-editor of the International Journalfor Human Caring (IJHC) from 1997-2001. Dr. Valentine’s contributions to furtheringcaring as the essence of nursing and health care is evident in her many publicationsand presentations, clinical and academic work settings, her research, her national andinternational leadership, and her continued presence at IAHC conferences. As Directorof Clemson University’s School of Nursing, she is hosting the 2019 IAHC conference inGreenville, SC.Jean WatsonJean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Nursing Human Caring Theorist, leader inCaring Science, and founding and honored life-time member of IAHC, was studyingcaring in the 1970s. She attended the first National Caring Conference in 1978. Herfirst book, Nursing: The Philosophy and Science of Caring, was published in 1979. Dr.Watson, a 1987 Charter Member of the National Caring Research Association, wasappointed to the Advisory Board from 1985-1990, during which the Association formallyincorporated as the International Association for Human Caring in 1989. Dr. Watsoncontinued serving on the IAHC elected Board from 1990 to 1993 and hosted two IAHCconferences. She has remained active at annual IAHC conferences as keynotespeaker and contributor. An annual Watson Scholarship has been established in hername to support caring research and practice. Dr. Watson has a long and lastinglegacy in promoting caring as a world-renowned Caring Science nursing theorist, withmany published articles, book chapters, books and her world-wide presentations. Dr.Watson is a Distinguished Professor and Dean Emerita, University of Colorado Denver,College of Nursing Anschutz Medical Center campus, where she held the nation’s firstendowed Chair in Caring Science for 16 years. She is founder of the original Center forHuman Caring in Colorado; past President of the National League for Nursing; andfounder of the International Caritas Consortium. She is Founder and Director of thenon-profit Watson Caring Science Institute and the Caritas Coach Education Program.Dr. Watson is recipient of 15 Honorary national and international Doctorates and wasawarded the 2013 American Academy of Nursing Living Legend. She continuouslyworks on changing policy, philosophy and practice toward healing relationships andenvironments.12 P a g e

Zane WolfZane Wolf, PhD, RN, FAAN, Dean Emerita and Professor at La Salle School of Nursingand Health Sciences, is a founding member of IAHC. She was appointed to theAdvisory Board of the National Caring Research Conferences from 1983-1984 andserved on the membership-elected IAHC Board from 1993-1995, President-elect from1996-1999, and President from 1999-2002. She has hosted three IAHC conferences.Dr. Wolf was instrumental in co-leading the launch and sustainability of theInternational Journal for Human Caring (IJHC), serving as co-editor from 1999 to 2001and then Editor from 2001 to present. As Editor, Dr. Wolf successfully moved the IJHCfrom print to an online format. Dr. Wolf is also a co-Editor of Caring in Nursing Classics:An Essential Resource (2013). Her many presentations and publications, includingExploring Rituals in Nursing (2014), are testimony of her commitment to promote andrecord caring history, theory, and practice. Dr. Wolf has been honored and recognizedfor her exemplary caring service in her many teaching and academic positions since1980 at La Salle School of Nursing and Health Sciences. She has served as a facultymember, Acting Chair, Director of Graduate Programs and 15 years as Dean.
