Early Childhood Teachers who have a four-year college degreeand are licensed to teach early childhood education. EARLY CHILDHOOD ECFE & YOUNG ROYALS FAMILY HANDBOOKECFE CLASSROOM INFORMATIONArrival Please enter Door 4. You will need your license to check in with the RaptorSecurity System. You will get a visitor’s name tag. Because staff are preparing the classrooms, please try to arrive no earlierthan five minutes before class time. Hang coats and personal belongings in a locker. Wash your hands before entering the classroom. Parents/Guardians are expected to stay in the school building at all times,unless it is a child only day for the Mini Royals class.Attendance Please call this number if you are unable to attend class 952-955-0233 or952-955-0280. For parent and child classes, parents are expected toremain with their children or the parent facilitator for the entire class time.Cell phones and coffee mugs Out of respect to all participants, avoid using your cell phone or textingduring class. If you need to make an emergency call, please step out into the hallway. For the safety of the children, please leave personal coffee mugs on thecounter in the classroomClothing Come dressed to play. Discipline involves teaching children what to do as well aswhat not to do. Guidance techniques will be age appropriate and willinclude the following:Positive role modelingRedirecting behavior toward constructive activityProblem solving with children to find a solution to the problemDiscussion of why certain behaviors are inappropriate.Room Guidelines Notice the variety of activities in the classroom for parents/guardians andchildren. Follow your child’s lead. Encourage participation-but it’s okay if your childis not willing to. participate.At circle time, we expect that some childrenwill get up and wander; that is okay. Stay with your child- you are in charge of their safety and behavior. Young children are not expected to share. Sharing is a learned behaviorthat will develop over time. We expect crying, fighting and other very normal behavior from children.It’s okay; this is a time for learning!Returning to the classroom Pick up your child in the classroom before picking up your child in siblingcare.Separation During the classes you and your child attend together; children andparents/guardians generally separate from each other for discussion time.In some of the younger age classes separation is gradual. Staff will workwith you to make the process of separating during these classes gosmoothly for both of you. Teaching staff are licensed by the MN Department of Education.Paraprofessionals are also part of the teaching team.Student SuccessWe aim to meet children where they are, as individuals and as a group. We helpeach child to reach challenging and achievable goals that will prepare them for21st century learning by focusing on critical thinking, creativity, cooperation,communication and perseverance.Attendance ExpectationsAttendance is important. Please make an effort to get your child to school everyscheduled day. If your child is unable to attend class please call or email yourchild’s teacher. Teachers do not check emails during class time/student contacttime. Teachers will respond to a phone call.ConferencesConferences are held two times a year. This is an opportunity for you toconnect with your child’s teacher. Your teacher will share about social,emotional and academic achievements for your child. Teachers will use the CORAdvantage assessment tool to monitor and support your child’s development.Behavior GuidelinesMost children do very well in the preschool classroom. Our licensed teachersunderstand the developmental level and needs of each child. Teachers haveappropriate expectations for young children. They are attentive to children andgive verbal and often visual cues to teach children about behavior expectations.The Second Step curriculum provides a framework for problem solving,acknowledging feelings and offers strategies to teach self regulation. Please check daily forposted notices or other information about program activities. We appreciateinput regarding program expectations, including ideas and suggestions on waysto improve our service to you and your family. You may direct suggestions,concerns, compliments, and complaints to the Program Coordinator.Field Trips and Parent ActivitiesOne field trip will be scheduled during the school year. Information regardingfield trips will be sent home in advance for sign up and parent permission.Background checks are required for adult chaperones and are required to besubmitted at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Please inquire how to do abackground check with your child’s teacher or in the Community Educationoffice.Participation and VolunteeringFamilies are encouraged to participate with their children in a variety ofactivities. Volunteers will need to complete a background check in order tovolunteer in District #111.CommunicationCommunication is important for a successful school year. We will communicateour classroom activities and want to hear from you anytime. Calendars areposted on the district website. Wm.k12.mn.us. Emails will be sent from yourchild’s teacher on a weekly basis with information regarding lesson plans,special events, alerts, etc. The priority platform for communication will be theCOR Advantage system. We will do our best to inform you of staff absences. Onparent/child days parents are always required to remain on site during classtime. Please donot allow your child to bring personal toys from home unless assigned.BackpacksChildren are requested to bring a school sized backpack to each class. Pleasecheck and empty the backpack dailyCalendarPreschool will follow the Watertown-Mayer public school calendar, with theexception of the end of school. Young Royals will end one week prior to K-12ending. See page 14 for the Young Royals Calendar.Social Networking SitesData privacy and confidentiality are important parts of our program. Please berespectful of the posts you make on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. aboutyour child, as it relates to other participants in our child’s class. Remember notall families want their child/ren posted on Social Media.Special Education ServicesExtra support is available for students that need it. Young Royals works in fullpartnership with the district’s Early Childhood Special Education program.Qualifying children will receive services to help them succeed at school.Transportation is available for 4 & 5 year old studentsIndicate your busing needs when registering online. Transportation is arrangedby the school. You will be notified by the bus company as school gets closer witha pick up/drop off time and location. Please do not call the bus company toarrange busing. If parents havecustody issues, they must provide the staff with a copy of any relevant courtorders. It is the parent’s responsibility to work out the scheduling and paymentsfor child care. The person identified as the primary account user is responsiblefor making payments associated with the Young Royals account.CHILD FILESKids’ Company provides access to information to parents and guardians withlegal authority for a child. Written authorization is required for the program torelease information or children to any other person. Child records will betreated as confidential by program staff and will be stored in a locked locationwhere they can only be accessed by individuals legally entitled to access it.Parents/Guardians provide permission for District #111 staff to view new childrecords at the time of registration.UPDATING CHILD FILESIt is important that information is kept current for every child. We use thisinformation to contact parents/guardians in case of an emergency. Every childmust have three emergency contacts identified as part of registration. Currentwork, home, and cell numbers are critical for us to have. Parents/Guardians areresponsible for updating their online profile as appropriate, as well as providingupdated health summaries and immunizations. Infant and toddler age childrenmust have updated immunizations and healthcare summaries as appropriate,as well as prior to transitioning to a new group and at the start of each season.Growth through Opportunities & Connections

EARLY CHILDHOOD ECFE & YOUNG ROYALS FAMILY HANDBOOKYOUNG ROYALS DROP OFF & PICK UPClassrooms 202, 205 and 206: Please use Door 4 to enter and exit.Classrooms 208 and 210: Please use Door 2 to enter and exit. You need to usestreet parking. You are not allowed to use the parking lot of the apartmentbuilding.A parent or guardian (18 years or older) must drop off and pick up their child athis or her classroom using the ipad. Children will not be allowed to leave withanyone except the custodial parents/guardians or a person authorized by theparent/guardian. If a staff member is uncertain about the person’s identity,they will ask for a valid picture ID. Parents/Guardians dropping off or picking upoutside normal class times are required to check in at the front desk andpresent a driver’s license. At that time your license will be screened through oursecurity system.Parents/Guardians are responsible for keeping profile current on the Eleyoregistration site. This will include updated pick up authorizations. Staff will notadd or delete authorized persons to your account.If during class time there is a change in who will be picking up your child, pleasecall 952-955-0280 and leave a message with the Community Education secretaryor you may call your child’s classroom. However, do not email the teachers withinformation regarding changes that may occur during class time because emailsare only checked before and after class.Please DO NOT leave other children unattended in cars when dropping offand picking up. Clothes that allow easy movement arebest for all the “action” in our classroom. It is recommended that you keep anextra set of clothes at school for those unplanned accidents.During the winter we will go outside if the temperature is above zero.Please make sure your child has adequate cold weather apparel for outdoorplay.Growth through Opportunities & Connections

EARLY CHILDHOOD ECFE & YOUNG ROYALS FAMILY HANDBOOKYOUNG ROYALS TUITION & PAYMENTSPAYMENTS/ACCOUNTSInvoices are generated on a monthly basis and are emailed to account holders.Invoices indicate charges for the month. Payments are due on the 10th of eachmonth and late fees are applied to accounts with balances on the 16th of themonth. Failure to pay your tuition in a timely manner may result in terminationfrom program until the account is paid in full. Unpaid accounts will be sent tothe district’s authorized collection agency. Families are responsible for all costsassociated with the collection, including legal fees.PAYMENT OPTIONSAll payments can be submitted to the Community Ed office or paid online. Anautopay feature is available. Payments accepted include: check, cash or creditcard (MasterCard, Visa or Discover). The school district charges a fee for checksreturned due to insufficient funds. If repayment is not made within five businessdays of notification, Services may be suspended. We reserve the right to acceptpayment only by cash or cashier’s checks if a family has a history of insufficientfunds. If you have questions regarding your account, please contact theProgram Coordinator at 952-955-0283.DELINQUENT ACCOUNTSAll community education accounts for your family members must be paid in atimely manner in order to continue your enrollment or to begin futureenrollment in Watertown-Mayer Community Education activities, programs, andservices. If a family fails to pay their fees or make arrangements for a paymentplan with the Program Coordinator, Community Education retains the right toterminate participation in community education programs/services and to referthe account to the district’s authorized collection agency. It is a call to support you andyour child with specific and individualized challenges you may be facing.Whether at home or at school, 1-1 coaching calls will leave you with researchedbased strategies that will help support your child. Calls include a 2 week followup call to monitor and support behavior changes. Possible Topics: Behaviorstruggles, tantrums, picky eaters, potty training, sibling conflict, fears, anxiety.Day and evening calls available. Invitations will be sent to children at approximately four years ofage. If your child is 3 years 6 months or older and has not been previouslyscreened, he/she should be screened this year. Children with any of the followingsymptoms should not attend class: Fever (100 degrees is considered a fever) Diarrhea Thick nasal discharge Vomiting Enlarged glands Ear aches Sore throat Harsh cough Chills Any undiagnosed rash A contagious stage of any communicable disease. Symptoms, even mild, pose a risk of COVID entering our schools.Parents/caregivers are expected to perform a daily health screening for theirchildren before sending them to school. Students will need to remain home ifthey have any of the following:One of the following "more common" symptoms: Fever (100.4 or higher) New cough or a cough that gets worse Difficulty/hard time breathing New loss of taste or smellOrAt least two of the "less common" symptoms: Chills Muscle pain Sore throat Excessive fatigue/feeling very tired Gastrointestinal symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, or nausea New severe/very bad headache New nasal congestion/stuffy or runny noseDO NOT come to school or work if a student or staff: Has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days Awaiting COVID-19 test results for themselves due to symptoms A household member has tested positive for COVID-19 and student orstaff is not vaccinatedPlease notify Community Ed and report if any of the above symptoms arepresent at 952-955-0280 or wmcommunityed@wm.k12.mn.usGrowth through Opportunities & Connections

A parentmay request to be notified prior to the application of certain pesticides.Additional information regarding what pesticides are used, the schedule ofpesticide applications and the long-term health effects of the class of pesticideon children can be requested by contacting the Building and Groundssupervisor at 952-955-0490.Parking SafetyAll parking laws should be followed to ensure the safety of all. TheWatertown-Mayer School District has a goal to be in full compliance with thislaw and is following the spirit, as well as the letter of the law. As a matter ofpolicy, the Watertown-Mayer School District shall continue to maintain a safeand healthy environment for our community’s youth and employees. In keepingwith this legislation, all buildings (including portables and support buildings)owned or leased by the School District were inspected by EPA accreditedinspectors and samples were analyzed by an independent laboratory.
