Central Station ProjectMobile ToolsLawrence Transit and the University of Kansas havebeen working on two major projects that will becompleted soon. The redesign of transit routes inLawrence will align with the construction of CentralStation on the southeast corner of Bob Billings andCrestline, expected to open in early 2023.Real-Time AppCheck out our free bus app with real-timedata. Available in the Apple App Store andGoogle Play by searching “My BusLawrence.”Real-Time TextStep 1: Find your stop number located on the bus stopsign. Step 2: Send a text to 41411. The text messageshould be formatted as follows: TRIP ### (### busstop number). For example, if you are waiting at busstop #173 at the Kansas Union, your text messagewould be TRIP 173. Step 3: Press send and you willreceive the next bus arrival times for that stop. Learnmore at lawrencetransit.org/mobile-tools.Travel TrainingRoute RedesignBus route redesign will be implemented in two phases,with the first phase in August 2022 and the secondphase in early 2023. Tools and resources are availableto help riders adjust to the route redesign.Tools and resources Trip planning tools like Transit app and GoogleMaps can help riders figure out which bus routes touse to reach their destination.The Lawrence Transit Travel Training Program will beavailable for individuals and organizations to helplearn the new bus routes. Real-time information on the My Bus Lawrence apphelps riders see when their bus is approaching. Travel training can provide more personalizedassistance with using public transit.Trip Planning ToolsTo plan your trip, type in your destination to TransitApp or Google Maps to see what stop and route youneed for your trip. Both of thesetrip planning tools will give youoptions for determining whenyou want to travel. The defaulttrip will show times for the nextavailable bus, but you can selectoptions to leave at a different time, or to arrive at yourdestination by a certain time.23

A transfer is validup to one hour on any bus, except the route on whichit was issued. Transfers cannot be used for a roundtrip. One-ride mobile fares are valid for one hour. Totransfer, show your mobile fare to each bus operator.Reduced Fare PolicyCertain passengers are eligible for a reduced fare onfixed-route service: Students in grades K-12 Haskell Indian Nations University students Age 60 Persons with disabilities - Medicare or T Lift cardPassengers seeking a reduced fare are required toprove their status through a valid state-issued orstudent ID, Medicare card or T Lift card (provided byLawrence Transit System). Only students in grades K-9are not required to show proof of age for reduced fare.5

How to RideRoute IdentificationAll buses have destination signs on the front and onthe curb side near the front door. The destination signdisplays the route number and destination of the bus(example: 6 Downtown). Remain seated and wait until the bus comes to acomplete stop before attempting to exit. After you exit, stand to the side of the road or onthe sidewalk until the bus has pulled away. Never cross the street in front of the bus.Tips for Riders A bus is considered on time up to 5 minutes afterthe scheduled time. Arrive at the bus stop early. Too early is better thanmissing the bus. Have your pass, ticket, or fare ready before the busarrives. Waving at the driver will help them know you wantto board. Bus drivers are good resources and are willing tohelp. If you need assistance, please ask. ADA ServicesAll buses are accessible. Each fixed-route bus andparatransit vehicle is equipped with a wheelchair lift orramp and audio announcement equipment.T LiftT Lift is a door-to-door, shared-ride paratransit service.T Lift service is available for transit riders who,because of a disability, are unable to use the fixedroutes.Bikes on the BusCombining biking and transit can get you farther inLawrence. There are a few things to be aware of whentaking your bike on the bus. There are two bike racks on each bus. Racks areavailable on a first-come, first-served basis. If there are no bikes in the rack, you should placeyour bike in the slot closest to the bus. To lower the rack, squeeze the handle and pull itdown. After placing your bike in the rack, raise thesupport arm over the front tire to secure it. Please remind the driver that you will be removingyour bike when you get off the bus. Night LineAbout UsNight Line is a shared-ride service that can be used totravel to any destination in the city limits of Lawrencefrom 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday–Saturday. Service is notprovided on Sunday. Multiple rides can be scheduledup to five days in advance. Night Line is easy to use:Mission Statement1. Schedule your ride in advance at (785) 312-7054.Call 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday–Saturday.Together, the City of Lawrence and University ofKansas will provide safe, convenient, affordable,reliable and responsive public transportation servicesto enhance the social, economic and environmentalwell-being of the community.2. Pay the driver 2 when they pick you up.Lawrence TransitRiders can pay cash, use paper fare equivalent to 2,or use mobile fare equivalent to 2 to pay the fare onNight Line. Drivers cannot make change.Lawrence Transit is a service of the City of Lawrence.Policies for Lawrence Transit are set by the LawrenceCity Commission, with recommendations from thePublic Transit Advisory Committee.The driver will determine the order in which riders aredropped off. A 30-minute pickup window means thedriver may pick you up as early as 15 minutes before oras late as 15 minutes after the scheduled pickup time.Gameday ServiceKU football fans may park in Downtown Lawrence forfree and catch a ride to and from Memorial Stadiumduring football season. Duringthe Summer semester, SafeRide operates from 10:30p.m.–2:30 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights,and on July 4th.
