TheWireless card and Verizon One must usethe same Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)security code type. The factory default forWEP is DISABLED. If you enable WEP,you must ensure the network settingfor your wireless adapter is set to “MustUse Shared Key for WEP” or “OpenWi-Fi.” You must ensure that your PC’sWi-Fi adapter is configured properly for 2006 Verizonwhichever network setting you use. Youcan access the settings in the advancedproperties of the wireless network adapter.Verizon One can function in two modes:The first mode, called the StandaloneMode, occurs when Verizon One ISNOT CONNECTED to active DSLservice. Screen: Refers to either the Handset’sor the Base Unit’s Liquid CrystalDisplay (LCD). Note: Refers to outlined informationthat provides additional details about afeature or function. Never install telephone jacks in wetlocations unless the jack is specificallydesigned for a wet location. Never touch non-insulated telephonewires or terminals unless the telephoneline has been disconnected at thenetwork interface. Use caution when installing ormodifying telephone lines. Avoid using during a lightning storm. Do not use while wet or while standingin water. Do not place Verizon One nearwater, such as near a sink or bath tub. Unplug Verizon One from the walloutlet and telephone jack beforecleaning. Only use a soft, damp clothto clean Verizon One. Do not usechemicals or cleaning agents. 2006 Verizon Use only the Power Adaptor that camewith Verizon One.IMPORTANT: In the event of a lossof electricity to your home/office, yourVerizon One system will not operate.For this reason, it is recommendedthat you have at least one standardtelephone in your home/office for use incase of an emergency.WARNINGRisk of electric shock. Voltages up to140 Vdc (with reference to ground)may be present on telecommunicationscircuits.3.2 Battery Safety Instructions Use only the battery that was providedwith your Verizon One kit, or anauthorized replacement recommendedby the manufacturer. Do not puncture the battery. Thebattery contains toxic materials thatcould be released if mishandled,resulting in injury. Keep batteries and other potentiallyhazardous devices out of the reach ofchildren. Never dispose of batteries in fire, whichcould result in an explosion.

Regulatory Information4.1 FCC Compliance NoteThis equipment has been tested andfound to comply with the limits for aClass B digital device, pursuant FCCStatement: This Product has beentested and found to comply with thelimits for a Class B digital device,pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules.These limits are designed to providereasonable protection against harmfulinterference in a residential installation.This Product generates, uses, and canradiate radio frequency energy and, ifnot installed and used in accordancewith the instructions, may cause harmfulinterference to radio communication.However, there is no guarantee thatinterference will not occur in a particularinstallation. If this Product does causeharmful interference to radio or televisionreception, which can be determinedby turning the Product off and on, the 2006 VerizonCustomer is encouraged to try to correctthe interference by one or more of thefollowing measures: Reorient or relocate the receivingantenna. Installing the Verizon One Base Unit7.1 Choosing a Location to InstallVerizon OneFor optimal performance of VerizonOne, choose a location that is: Away from active electrical areas Away from interference such as atelevision, radio or microwave oven Away from water or moisture,excessive dust, or extreme cold Away from heat sources and sunlight7.2 Installing the Base Unit on aDesktop or Flat SurfaceStep 1Attach the Verizon One Base Unit to theSwivel Support Stand (Figure 1).Snap the Verizon One Base Unit SwivelSupport Stand onto the back of the BaseUnit. Locate a sturdy, flat surface, tableor desktop near an active wall AC poweroutlet, an active telephone jack and yourprimary computer. In a central location that has noobstructions—this will optimizecordless performanceStep 2Plug in the Power Cord (Figure 2).Connect the DC 12V power supply cordto the power connector marked 12V DCon the rear panel of the Verizon OneBase Unit. Plug the other end of thepower supply into an AC wall socket,and then turn on the power switch (if it isnot on already). Check the Base to seeif the Power LED is solid green. If thePower LED is solid green, Verizon Onepower is on. Separate from another Verizon OneBase UnitFigure 1Power is OnFigure 2 2006 Verizon

Installing the Verizon One Base Unit7.2 Installing the Base Unit on aDesktop or Flat Surface (cont’d)Step 3Follow the Instructions on the VerizonOne Display (Figure 3).The Verizon One display will walk youthrough the necessary steps to completethe set-up of Verizon One and theinstallation of your Verizon Online DSLService (if required).7.3 Wall Mounting on a HollowDrywall Surface (Optional)Follow the steps below to mount VerizonOne on a wall:NOTE: The hardware needed to wallmount Verizon One is not included withthe product.1. Obtain two #8 pan-head screws andtwo #8 wall anchors.2. Place the Verizon One Base Unitstand against the wall where it isto be mounted. Using a pencil,mark one of the two correspondingscrew locations. Mark the other at theappropriate distance vertically.3. Drill a 3/16” hole for the wall anchorsand insert. Screw in the #8 screwsuntil the face of the screws areapproximately 1/8” from the wall.Figure 3 2006 Verizon4. Test-fit the Verizon One Base Unitswivel stand on the screws and adjustthe screw depth for a sliding fit. Oncethe stand fits tightly against the wall,remove it from the wall.5. Connect the phone cable (included)from the jack marked DSL on the rearpanel of the Base Unit to thetelephone wall jack provisioned forDSL and phone service. Thisconnection will provide dial tone forvoice services in addition to providingDSL to your Verizon One.(Note: Verizon One has a Fax Jackthat can be used to connect additionaltelephone equipment such as a faxmachine).

Connect the DC 12V power supplycord to the power connector marked12V DC on the rear panel of theVerizon One Base Unit. Plug theother end of the power supply into anAC wall socket, and then turn on thepower switch (if it is not already on).7. Check the Base to see if the PowerLED is solid green. If the Power LEDis solid green, the Verizon OneBase is powered up.8. Verify telephone operation bypressing the Speakerphone button found on the front of the BaseUnit. Once pressed, the In-Use LEDshould be solid blue and a dial toneshould be heard from the speaker.9. Once telephone operation hasbeen verified, snap the Base Unit 2006 VerizonSwivel stand onto the base. Adjustthe stand by pressing the paddleand tilting the base until the top ofthe Base Unit touches the edge ofthe circular stand. The Base Unitmust be installed in this position.Prior to placing the Base Unit andSwivel Stand onto the wall, use thecable management grooves withinthe bottom of the stand to guide thePower and telephone cables, so thatthe stand can sit flush with the wall.Mount the unit to the wall.10. Once the unit has been mounted tothe wall, re-verify telephoneoperation by pressing the Speakerphone button on the frontof the Base unit. Once pressed, theIn-Use LED should be solid blue anda dial tone should be heard from thespeaker.

Handset Battery8.1 Installing the Handset BatteryIMPORTANT: Before you install orhandle the battery, please read Section3.2 for Battery Safety Instructions.Remove the battery cover by pressingand sliding the cover off the batterycompartment. Attach the battery cableconnector to the connector socket insidethe battery compartment, and thenslide the battery into the compartment.(Note: Prior to replacing the batterycover, be sure that the battery cables willnot obstruct the compartment when thecover is replaced.) Replace the batterycover by sliding the cover upward until itsnaps into place on the Handset.Note: Prior to using your Verizon OneHandset for the first time, the Handsetbattery must be fully charged. SeeSection 8.2 Parking or Charging theHandset (Battery) for instructions. 2006 Verizon

Allow thebattery to charge for approximately 12hours prior to initial use. During normaloperation when the Handset is not in use,park the Handset (face down) into theBase Unit with contacts touching. It takes approximately 2seconds for the Handset to detect thebattery charge level after it has beenremoved from the cradle. The HandsetLCD design includes a Battery Levelmeter icon.Battery Level (Low Charge) – Whenthe Handset reaches a Low battery levelduring a Talk state, the “Battery Low”tone is played once per minute throughthe speaker and the Battery Low iconbegins to flash indicating approximately8 minutes of Talk time are remaining. Ifthe Handset is not currently on a call,the battery icon will be flashing. Whenyou press any key, the Handset will emitan error tone and all keypad functionswill be disabled (in the event that thebattery is too low to initiate a telephone 2006 Verizoncall). The battery low icon will continueto flash until the battery is recharged orcompletely discharged.IconflashesLow battery level indication(battery icon flashes)Battery Level (Medium Charge)—Whenthe Handset reaches a Medium batterylevel, the battery icon is displayed and is“steady,” i.e. not flashing. This is an easy and secure way totransport the phone, and is convenientwhen using the headset jack for handsfree operation.

Registering the Handset to the Base Unit9.1 Registration ProcedureAfter successfully charging your VerizonOne Handset, you must perform aregistration procedure to allow theHandset to communicate with the BaseUnit. To register the Handset to the BaseUnit, perform these steps:1. Select the Menu function on theHandset.2. Using the round navigation button,scroll down to find the [Registration]menu. Next, press the top leftcorner key to select Registration.3. Once you have selectedRegistration, the Handset willinstruct you to press and hold the Intercom key on the Base Unit.Press and hold this key for 3 seconds.4. After 3 seconds, the Handset willautomatically register to the Base Unit. 2006 VerizonTo verify successful registration, press the Talk/Flash button on the Handset. A dialtone will be heard from the Handset and acall may be placed successfully. If no dialtone is heard, but the Handset indicatedthat it had successfully registered withthe Base, verify that the Base Unit isconnected to an active telephone lineand that this line is plugged into the DSL/Phone port on the back of the Base Unit.Each Verizon One phone comes with one(1) cordless handset. Up to four additionalhandsets may be purchased separatelyand registered to the Verizon One basestation to create a phone system with five(5) distinct handset and intercom locations.
