Program Guide Idaho Job Corps is a training program created to help income-eligible youth improve the quality of their lives through a focus on education and training, life preparation and career readiness.

Program Pathway Pillars & Phases The three main pathway pillars of the program are a student’s Education/Training, Life Preparation and Career Readiness pathways. Every student’s pathway is individualized, and is unique to that student’s life situation. Education/Training Idaho Job Corps students have the option to attain education and training that will help them reach their career goals. This includes attaining a high school diploma, GED, certification, degree or other credentials. Life Preparation Students participate in classes that help them become independent adults. These classes include topics such as personal finance, professionalism, goal setting and more. Career Readiness Students learn skills that help them prepare for a career including leadership, communication and time management. Students will have opportunities to participate in work-based learning, job shadowing, career fairs and regular interaction with employers. 2

Program Mission and Values Idaho Job Corps’ mission is to inspire and empower students toward a purposeful life. To support that belief and mission, we have program-wide expectations of the students to engage in physical fitness, academic and community connection activities weekly. As a program, we value teamwork, engagement, organization, creativity, leadership and helping students and staff thrive. The program is designed to provide a holistic approach for students one that supports intellectual, emotional and physical wellness and growth. Community College Partnership The Idaho Department of Labor has partnered with the College of Western Idaho (CWI), College of Eastern Idaho (CEI), College of Southern Idaho (CSI) and North Idaho College (NIC) to create a cost-effective program that provides students with life preparation skills and higher education opportunities in Idaho’s high-demand occupations. Eligibility To be eligible for the program, at minimum, students must: Be between the ages of 16 and 24 Be a U.S. citizen Meet income guidelines Other eligibility criteria apply. Locations Idaho Job Corps has four locations across the state. The Centennial Job Corps center is in Nampa, and three remote centers are located in Twin Falls, Idaho Falls and Coeur d’Alene. Program Activities All Idaho Job Corps students participate in the program for 35 hours per week. Activities include: 1 hour of life skills 2.5 hours of fitness and health Students who participate in the Idaho Job Corps also get access to: Meals Transportation 3 hours of service learning Clothing assistance 30 minutes of case management Support with child care costs During their participation in the program, students must maintain a C grade or better in all classes. Students will also be tested for progress every 60 days and will meet with a mental health counselor every 90 days. Students must stay drug free while participating in Idaho Job Corps. 6 Benefits to Students Mental health services Assistance accessing medical services Academic tutoring Assistance with job placement Student Support When students enter the program, they are assigned a case manager to help them progress through the program. Students also have access to a wellness manager, life skills coach, activities coordinator, workforce consultant, academic tutors and many other professionals who will help them stay on track with their goals.

Student Progress Students move through three phases as they prepare for employment — Development, Preparation and Transition. Development Preparation Students who are in the development phase are gaining foundational skills to enter a training program for employment. They are just beginning to understand and learn life skills that will allow them to be successful in the preparation phase and beyond. Students are often engaging in on-campus job shadowing opportunities during this phase. Students in the preparation phase are getting ready to or have just entered a program of study at the community college. This may include an associate degree program, career and technical education or a workforce development program. Students are often involved in off-campus job shadowing opportunities during this phase.
