ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT Embry-Riddle Athletics supports the philosophy of “Student-Person-Player” by developing the student-athlete intellectually, socially, psychologically, spiritually and physically in preparation for life after college. We strive to recruit, compete with and graduate student-athletes who are committed to personal growth, character development, serving the greater good of the campus and community, and embracing the ideals of the NCAA Division II Life in the Balance program. EmbryRiddle provides equitable opportunities for men and women to participate in nationally competitive athletic programs under the guidelines of the Sunshine State Conference, Peach Belt Conference and the NCAA. 1

COMPLIANCE STATEMENT Embry-Riddle Athletics Compliance is committed to complying with and upholding all rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Sunshine State Conference, Peach Belt Conference and the conduct of its intercollegiate athletics department. The mission of Embry-Riddle Athletic Compliance is to provide an environment of compliance and to insure the NCAA principal of institutional control through rules education, monitoring, open communication, and self-reporting. This responsibility is a collective endeavor that is shared by athletics department staff, student-athletes, other appropriate institutional personnel, and individuals and groups representing the athletics interests of the institution. It is the responsibility of each individual to ask questions, make no assumptions, and follow through on all compliance procedures and guidelines. Compliance with University and NCAA rules can only be obtained when every individual presents a positive, practical, and ethical attitude toward compliance. The main responsibility of the Compliance office is to ensure that members of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the Athletics Department understand and follow NCAA rules and regulations in an effort to prevent rules violations. This is accomplished through rules education, interpretation, and the thorough monitoring of procedures. Self-reporting of violations is highly recommended and encouraged and will aid the institution in reporting such violations to the NCAA. Professional Responsibility Staff members in athletics are employed in an extremely honorable profession. Therefore, professional standards of the highest order are expected from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University personnel. Staff members are expected to comply with all NCAA, Sunshine State Conference and institutional rules, policies and procedures, as well as conduct themselves in a professional manner. Staff members must understand the nature and role of the compliance office with regard to professional responsibility. The compliance office is both an advocate for and an inquisitor of institutional staff members in achieving desired objectives of staff members. This function plays an integral role in supporting the institution‘s deep commitment to professional responsibility and institutional control. 2

Pre-Game Sportsmanship Announcement (To be read by a current Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Student Athlete) Good (afternoon/evening) and welcome to our contest between (HOME) and (AWAY). My name is {WHOEVER} and I’m a [CLASS] on the Embry-Riddle [SPORT] team. Embry-Riddle and the Sunshine State Conference expect good sportsmanship by all in attendance at [today/tonight’s] game. We encourage you to enthusiastically support your team! However, please refrain from using racist, sexist, homophobic or other discriminatory comments, profanities or intimidating actions on the basis of one’s appearance, identities or perceived identities directed at officials, spectators, studentathletes, coaches or team representatives. These actions, as well as any other inappropriate behavior, including the consumption or possession of alcohol and tobacco, will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from this event. EmbryRiddle has many traditions, but bad sportsmanship isn’t one of them. Be Loud, Be Proud, Be Positive. Go EAGLES! About Sportsmanship The NCAA Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee has developed the following definitions for sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Sportsmanship is a set of behaviors to be exhibited by student-athletes, coaches, game officials, administrators and fans in athletic competition. These behaviors are based on values, especially respect and integrity. Ethical conduct is a set of guiding principles with which each person follows the letter and spirit of the rules. Such conduct reflects a higher standard than law because it includes, among other principles, fundamental values that define sportsmanship. 3

Sportsmanship is one of 16 defining principles of the Association: NCAA Bylaw 2.4 The Principles of Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct. For intercollegiate athletics to promote the character development of participants, to enhance the integrity of higher education and to promote civility in society, student-athletes, coaches, and all others associated with these athletic programs and events should adhere to such fundamental values as respect, fairness, civility, honest and responsibility. These values should be manifested not only in athletics participation but also in the broad spectrum of activities affecting the athletics program. It is the responsibility of each institution to: (Revised: 1/9/96) Establish policies for sportsmanship and ethical conduct in intercollegiate athletics consistent with the educational mission and goals of the institution; and (Adopted: 1/9/96) Educate, on a continuing basis, all constituencies about the policies in Constitution 2.4-(a). (Adopted: 1/9/96) 4
