Technical Tip: Backing Rings & Flange Spacers A common question arises when mating a compression molded style of flange to a raised face steel or polymer connection. We inventory epoxy coated backing rings that are used in conjunction with compression molded FRP flanges where increased stiffness is required to prevent bending at raised face steel flanges. (Filament‐wound flanges can be mated directly to raised‐face surfaces using a gasket without needing a spacer or backing flange). 2‐piece Backing Flange Spacer Ring In addition, or in lieu of using backing rings if mating molded FRP flanges to raised face steel, a non‐metallic spacer ring can be used to effectively render the steel flange into a flat‐faced connection. Fibreglass Solutions would be pleased to assist with any and all FRP pipe, fitting, and valve requirements. Specific areas where our expertise is of particular value include; Process Review. Material Selection. Design & Layout Recommendations. 3‐D Drawing Library (most products). Budget/ Capital Estimates. Specification/ Line Class Review. Line Class Preparation. Installation Training & Certification. Bonder Quality Control. ASME B31.3 Compliance. Confirmation of inputs for stress analysis. Start‐up Supervision. Please visit our website at www.frpsolutions.com for more details and contact information, or call us anytime to see how we can help solve most of the corrosion problems that are plaguing industry today. www.frpsolutions.com Your partner in technical excellence.
