RN to BSNOnline ProgramDesigned for RNs who already hold an associate’sdegree or diploma in nursing, this convenientprogram brings a degree from UT’s College ofNursing within reach, even for busy working nurses.You’ll learn from UT’s dedicated and experiencedonline faculty, with accessible advisors and supportstaff, flexible start dates, full- and part-timeoptions, and no distant travel requiredfor clinicals or campus visits.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTSComplete 34 credit hours of online coursework in a convenient eight-week course format andautomatically receive an additional 27 credit hours of proficiency credit.General education requirements are already fulfilled for graduates of any Tennessee Board ofRegents institution. Graduates from other systems and those with a nursing diploma may haveadditional requirements.The program is fully online, with no travel to UT required and clinical components that can becompleted either virtually or close to home.Scheduling is flexible, with either a fall or spring start, and a structure that lets you continue workingas you earn your degree or study full time and complete the program within a calendar year.Part-time options are also available.Unmatched resources are within easy reach with the College of Nursing’s faculty, advisors, andsupport staff.ADMISSIONTo be eligible to apply, you must meet these criteria: Hold an associate’s degree or diploma in nursing. Be licensed or in progress as a registered nurse. Have a minimum of 62 hours credit eligible for transfer to UT. Meet the statewide US history requirement fora bachelor’s degree (either one unit at the highschool level or 6 credit hours at the collegelevel). If you did not graduate from a Tennessee Boardof Regents institution, you must also completeany remaining general education requirements.You can verify that your college falls under theTBR at tbr.edu, and view a list of UT’s generaleducation requirements at catalog.utk.edu.To apply, complete an application for admissionto the University of Tennessee at vip.utk.edu andchoose Nursing RN to BSN as your major.

PROFICIENCY CREDITDuring your first or second semester, you apply for 27 hours of proficiency credit for Nursing 201 andselect major clinical courses. These hours are held in escrow until your final semester, then appliedtoward your BSN.GRADUATION REQUIREMENTSGraduation requires a total of 123 credit hours; you can meet this requirement with qualifying transfercredit, proficiency credit, and credit earned in the program. If you require additional hours, they can becompleted during any semester before graduation.The combination of earned credit (34 hours) and proficiency credit (27 hours) meets the requirementthat at least 60 credit hours be earned at a four-year institution.HONORS REQUIREMENTSYou must earn 60 hours of credit at UT Knoxville to be eligible for honors designations.
