Optimum performance will be achieved within these operating temperatures. If air conditioner isused outside of the above conditions, certain safety protection features might come into operationand cause the unit to function abnormally.2. If the air conditioner runs for a long time in cooling mode and the humidity is high (over 80%),condensed water may drip out of the unit. Please set the vertical air flow louver to its maximumangle (vertically to the floor), and set HIGH fan mode.Manual Operation:Units are equipped with a switch to run emergency operation mode. It can be accessed by opening thefront panel. This switch is used for manual operation in case the remote control fails to work ormaintenance is necessary.NOTE: The unit must be turned off beforeoperating the manual control button. If the unit isoperational, continue pressing the manual controlbutton until the unit is off.1. Open and lift the front panel up to an angle untilit remains fixed with a clicking sound.2. One press of the manual control switch will leadto the forced AUTO operation. If the switch ispressed twice within five seconds, the unit willoperate under forced COOL operation.3. Close the panel firmly to its original position.CAUTION: This switch is used for testing purposes only. Please do not use it unless necessary. To restore the remote control operation, use theremote control directly.Page 4

Airflow Direction Control Adjust the air flow direction properly. Failure to do somay cause discomfort or uneven room temperatures. Adjust the horizontal louver using the remote control. Adjust the vertical louver manually.Adjusting vertical air flow (Up/Down)Perform this function while the unit is in operation. Usethe remote control to adjust the vertical air flowdirection. The horizontal louver can move slightly foreach press or continuously swing up and downautomatically. Please refer to the Remote ControlOperation Manual for details.Adjusting vertical air flow (Left/Right) Move the deflector rod manually to adjust the air flowin the direction you prefer.IMPORTANT: Do not put your fingers into the panelof the blower and suction side. The high-speed faninside may cause injury.CAUTION Do not operate the air conditioner for long periodswith the air flow direction set downward in cooling ordehumidifying mode. Doing so may causecondensation to occur on the surface of the horizontallouver, resulting in moisture dropping onto the floorand/or furnishings. After a quick restart, the horizontal louver may remainstatic for approximately 10 seconds. Open angle of the horizontal louver should not be settoo small as Cooling or Heating performance may bereduced due to an air flow area that is too restricted. Do not move the horizontal louver manually. Doing sowill result in the horizontal louver being out of sync.Should this happen, please cease operating the unit, power down the unit for a few seconds, then powerthe unit back up to restart the air conditioner.Page 5

How the Air Conditioner WorksBasic Operation Modes:AUTO / COOL / DRY / HEAT*(*Model dependent)AUTO operation When you set the air conditioner in AUTOmode, it will automatically select cooling, heating (models with heating function only), orfan only operation depending on settemperature and the room temperature. The air conditioner will control roomtemperature automatically to the temperaturepoint you set. If you feel uncomfortable in the AUTO mode, you can set your desired temperature at anytime in any mode.SLEEP operation When selected, the set temperature willincrease (cooling) or decrease (models withheating function only) by 2ºF (1ºC) per hour forthe first 2 hours. Thereafter, the newtemperature will be maintained for 5 hoursbefore switching off. This operation saves energy and improvesnight-time comfort by synchronizing with thebody’s metabolism.SetTemperature 2ºF2ºF1 hr. 1 hr. 7 hrs. Then timershuts off.DRYING operation The temperature is regulated whiledehumidifying by cycling on and off of thecooling operation or fan only. The fan speed inDRYING mode is LOW.HEATING operation - units with Heat Pump The air conditioning units with heat pumpoperate on the heat pump principle, absorbingheat from air outdoors and transferring that heatto the indoor unit. As a result, the operatingperformance is reduced as outdoor airtemperature drops. IF you feel that the heatingperformance is insufficient, we recommend thatyou use this air conditioner in conjunction withother kinds of heating appliances.Optimal operationTo achieve optimal performance, please note thefollowing: Adjust the air flow direction correctly so that it isnot directly blowing toward people. Adjust the temperature to achieve moderatecomfort levels. Excessively low or hightemperature settings waste energy. Improve performance by keeping windows anddoors closed. Limit energy usage (run time) by using the timerfunction. Do not put any object near air inlet or air outletas the efficiency of the air conditioner may bereduced and may cause the air conditioner tostop running. Inspect the air filters periodically and clean themwhen needed.Sleep Operation - COOLINGSetTemperature2ºF2ºF1 hr. 1 hr. 7 hrs. Then timershuts off.Sleep Operation - HEATINGPage 6

Special FunctionsRefrigerant Leakage DetectionWhen refrigerant leakage is detected, the indoorunit will display “EC” code or flash LEDs(depending on model).Louver Angle Memory FunctionThe minimum and maximum angle of thehorizontal louver is fixed. The unit has a memoryfunction and will return to the last positionselected. Never adjust the horizontal louverangle manually. The louver angle memoryfunction does not apply when TURBO functionor manual control is selected.Additionally, it is strongly suggested that theopening of the horizontal louver not be set toosmall in case condensation forms and dropsfrom the horizontal louver.Self Clean Function Airborne bacteria uses the moisture on theindoor heat exchanger to grow. Regular dryingof the exchanger prevents this growth. By simplypressing the SELF CLEAN button, the systemwill automatically manage the process. Thiscleaning action may be done as frequently asdesired. For cooling models, only the indoor fan is activein low speed for 30 minutes and the unit turns offautomatically once self clean session iscomplete. For cooling and heating models, the unit willoperate in the following sequence:Fan mode at Low fan speed Heatingoperation with Low fan speed Fan operation Stop operation Turn Off.NOTE: This function can only be activated in COOLINGor DRY mode. It is recommended that the air conditioner be runin the cooling operation for approximately 30minutes before activating SELF CLEAN function. Pressing the SELF CLEAN or ON/OFF buttonagain during the cleaning cycle will cancel theoperation and turn the unit off.Auto-restart FunctionIn the event of a power interruption such as ablackout, once power is restored, the unit willrestart automatically with all the previoussettings preserved by the memory function.Mute OperationPressing the LED button on the remote controlcan turn off the indoor screen display and alsoturn of the Air Conditioner buzzer to create aquieter environment.Page 7

Care and Maintenance3Care and MaintenanceBefore MaintenanceTurn the system off before cleaning. To clean, wipe witha soft, dry cloth. Do not use bleach or abrasives.NOTE: Power supply must be disconnected beforeattempting to clean or service.CAUTIONS Do not use a chemically treated cloth or duster toclean the unit. Do not use benzine, thinner, polishing powder, orsimilar solvents for cleaning. These may causethe plastic surface to crack or deform. Never use water hotter than 104ºF (40ºC) toclean the front panel. Doing so could causedeformation or discoloration of the unit.Cleaning the UnitWipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth only. If the unit isvery dirty, wipe it with a cloth soaked in warm water.Cleaning the Air FilterA clogged air filter reduces the cooling efficiency of thisunit. Please clean the filter once every 2 weeks:1. Open the front panel by carefully lifting both ends atthe same time. At a certain angle, a clicking sound isheard and it becomes self-supporting. For somemodels, please use the suspension bars to prop upthe panel.2. Use the tab provided to move the filter first up a little, then slightly towards you. Now extract the filter bygently drawing it downwards.3. Clean the large air filter with soapy water. Rinse withfresh water. Shake off excess water and let it dryCOMPLETELY in a cool, dry place.Page 8

Care and Maintenance (cont.)Preparation for Extended Non-OperationIf you plan to idle the unit for a long time, perform thefollowing:1. Clean the indoor unit and filters.2. Operate the fan for about half a day to dry the insideof the unit.3. Stop the air conditioner and disconnect power.4. Remove the batteries from the remote control.5. The outdoor unit requires periodic maintenance andcleaning. Do not attempt to do this yourself. Contactyour dealer or service provider.Pre-season Inspection Damaged or disconnected wires.Clean the indoor unit and filters.Check for water or oil leaks.Check the air outlet and inlets for any blockagesafter the air conditioner has not been used for a longtime. Address any blockages to aid in properfunctioning of the unit.CAUTION Do not touch the metal parts of the unit whenremoving the filter. Injuries can occur whenhandling sharp metal edges. Do not use water to clean inside the airconditioner. Exposure to water can destroy theinsulation, leading to possible electric shock. When cleaning the unit, first make sure that thepower and circuit breaker are turned off. Do not wash air filter with hot water at atemperature greater than 104ºF (40ºC). Shake offmoisture and allow it to dry completely. Do notexpose the filter to direct sunlight. Doing so mayresult in shrinking of the filter.Page 9
