Pushthe battery casing lid back into place.Working out using a crosstrainer is excellentaerobic exercise, the principle being that theexercise should be suitably light, but of longduration. Aerobic exercise is based on improvingthe body’s maximum oxygen uptake, which in turnimproves endurance and fitness. The ability of thebody to burn fat as a fuel is directly dependent onits oxygen uptake capacity. Aerobic exercise shouldabove all be pleasant. You should perspire, but youshould not get out of breath during the workout. You must, for example, be able to speak and notjust pant while exercising. You should exercise atleast three times a week, 30 minutes at a time, toreach a basic fitness level. Maintaining this levelrequires a few exercise sessions each week. Oncethe basic condition has been reached, it is easilyimproved, simply by increasing the number ofexercise sessions. Exercise is always rewarding forweight loss, because it is the only way of increasingthe energy spent by the body. This is why it isalways worthwhile to combine regular exercisewith a healthy diet. A dieter should exercise daily- at first 30 minutes or less at a time, graduallyincreasing the daily workout time to one hour. BATAVUS X2 290806.indd 529.8.2006 14:56:06

Start your workout with slow tempo and lowresistance. Gradually increase tempo and resistanceaccording to your own condition. Keep your headup and neck long in order to avoid stress on yourneck, shoulders and back. Keep also your backstraight. Make sure that your feet are centered onthe foot pedals and that your hips, knees, anklesand toes are facing forward. Keep your bodyweight centered over your lower body regardless ofwhether you lean forward or stand upright. Stopyour workout by gradually decreasing tempo andresistance. If you wish to strengthen your upper body muscles, lean slightly forward and focus on working withyour arms. Grab the handles somewhat higher thannormally to enhance the movement, but avoidgetting your shoulders sore. For dual training, set the resistance sufficiently high and focus onactively using upper and lower body musclessimultaneously. You should feel the effects oftraining in whole body.HEART RATENo matter what your goal, you’ll get the bestresults by training at the right level of effort, andthe best measure is your own heart rate.First find your maximum heart rate i.e. where therate doesn’t increase with added effort. If you don’tknow your maximum heart rate, please use thefollowing formula as a guide:220 – AGEThe maximum varies from person to person. Themaximum heart-rate diminishes on average by onepoint per year. If you belong to a risk group, aska doctor to measure your maximum heart rate foryou. We have defined three different heart-rate zones tohelp you with targeted training.BEGINNER 50-60 % of maximum heart-rate.OWNER'S MANUALAlso suitable for weight-watchers, convalescentsand those who haven’t exercised for a long time.Three sessions a week of at least a half-hour eachis recommended. Regular exercise considerablyimproves beginners’ respiratory and circulatoryperformance and you will quickly feel yourimprovement.TRAINER 60-70 % of maximum heart-rate.Perfect for improving and maintaining fitness.Even reasonable effort develops the heart and lungseffectively, training for a minimum of 30 minutesat least three times a week. To improve yourcondition still further, increase either frequency oreffort, but not both at the same time!ACTIVE TRAINERrate. 70-80 % of maximum heart-Exercise at this level suits only the fittest andpresupposes long-endurance workouts.EAR PULSE MEASUREMENTFit the ear sensor wire plug into the connectingpoint of the meter.2. Attach the ear sensor to the earlobe.1.If the sensor does not immediately start measuringyour pulse or if the earlobe is cold, rub theearlobe with the fingers to speed up circulation.Physiological differences between different peoplemay also cause disturbances in pulse measurement. In these cases, try measuring on the insidesurface of the ear or on the tip of your finger. Ifmeasuring disturbances appear while training, test the functioning of the sensor while stationary.Strong, unintentional swaying while trainingmay also disturb measurement. If pulse valuesrise above 150 beats/min., earlobe measurementmay be affected by the speeding up of circulation.Sometimes a strong light source, e.g. a fluorescenttube, in the immediate vicinity of the user maycause disturbances in pulse measurement. In thiscase, test the functioning of the sensor by turningthe ear sensor the other way round on the earlobe.Pulse reading can also be affected, if the batterypower of the meter is too low. Clean the ear sensorafter use with a damp cloth.TELEMETRIC HEART RATE MEASUREMENTThis equipment can be equipped with a pulsereceiver, which is compatible with a telemetric ProCheck pulse transmitter.NOTE! Ifyou are fitted with a pacemaker, pleaseconsult a physician before using a wireless heartrate monitor. If you want to measure your heart rate this wayduring your workout, moisten the groovedelectrodes on the transmitter belt with water.Fasten the transmitter just below the chest with theelastic belt, firmly enough so that the electrodesremain in contact with the skin while training, butnot so tight that normal breathing is prevented. If you wear the transmitter and belt over a lightshirt, moisten the shirt slightly at the points wherethe electrodes touch the shirt. The transmitterautomatically transmits the heart-rate reading tothe meter up to a distance of about 1 meter. Theheart-rate value is displayed in the meter. Followyour heart rate during the training. BATAVUS X2 290806.indd 629.8.2006 14:56:07

OWNER'S MANUALREMARKS ON TELEMETRIC MEASUREMENTSET:If the electrode surfaces are not moist, the heartrate reading will not appear on the display. If theelectrodes are dry, they must be moistened again.Allow the electrodes to warm up properly toensure accurate heart-rate measurement. If thereare several telemetric heart rate measurementequipments next to each other, the distancebetween them should be at least 1,5 m. Similarly,if there is only one receiver and several transmittersin use, only one person with a transmitter shouldbe within transmission range. The transmitter isswitched to an active state only when it is beingused for measurement. Sweat and other moisturecan, however, keep the transmitter in an active stateand waste battery energy. Therefore it is importantto dry the electrodes carefully after use. Whenselecting training attire, please note that somefibers used in clothes (e.g. polyester, polyamide)create static electricity, which may prevent reliableheart rate measurement. The Set key changes the setting. Press this key tochange the setting in increments of one. If youhold down the key for longer than two seconds, the values change more quickly. Press the Set keywhen the correct value is reached. Please note that a mobile phone, television andother electrical appliances form an electro-magneticfield around them, which will cause problems inheart rate measurement.2. Time (countup)The display shows the time since the start of theworkout. The time separator (:) flashes everysecond while the time is being measured during theworkout.CONSOLEGBMODE:Press the Mode key to switch the display mode.TrainingThe console is turned on by pressing any key. Youcan start exercising immediately. You can also startexercising by setting goal values.Press the Mode key to enable the function goalvalue setting. To set the goal values, use the Set key.1. SpeedDuring the workout, the display alternates betweenrevolutions per minute and the speed in km/h.3. Time (countdown)The display shows the remaining workout time.Press the Mode key to enable the function goalvalue setting. To set the goal value, use the Setkey. The time can be set up to a maximum of99 minutes. The time separator (:) flashes everysecond while the time is being measured during theworkout. When the time reaches “00:00”, there isan audible signal.4. Distance (km/countup)The display shows the distance covered during theworkout. Distance of 0 – 99.5 are measured inincrements of 500 meters.5. Distance (km/countdown)This function displays the remaining distance. UsPress the Mode key twice to enable the functiongoal value setting. To set the goal value, use the Setkey.KEY FUNCTIONS:RESET:Deletes existing values. If you hold down thiskey for more than two seconds, you can reset allfunctions to zero regardless of the mode selected inthe display.6. CaloriesThe amount of energy you burn during a workoutis displayed in kcal. Press the Mode key threetimes to enable the function goal value setting. To set the goal value, use the Set key. You canuse the following formula to convert the valuesinto joules: 1 kcal 4.187 kJ. This device usesaverage values to calculate energy consumption. However, each individual has differing capacity forproducing energy (known as their efficiency), sothe energy consumption displayed can only be anapproximation. 7. Heart rateYou can measure your heart rate using the earsensor or chest strap (optional). The heart symbolflashes in time with the heart rate (30 - 240 heartbeats per minute). The display only flashes whilethe heart rate is being measured. Please note thatthe heart rate measurement takes about 30 secondsin order to calculate an accurate average. The heartrate function switches off automatically if thereis no heart rate signal for more than 16 seconds. The warning signal for maximum heart rate is alsodisabled.8. Maximum heart rateThe display shows the specified maximum heartrate. Press the Mode key to enable the functiongoal value setting. To set the goal value, use the Setkey. If you enter a maximum value, and there isan audible signal if the limit is exceeded. You canset a maximum heart rate of 30 to 240 beats perminute. If the device has not been used for five minutes,it automatically switches itself to sleep mode. Thedisplay shows the room temperature.TRANSPORT AND STORAGEPlease follow these instructions when carryingand moving the equipment about, because liftingit incorrectly may strain your back or risk otheraccidents:The device is easy to move by pushing along on theintegrated transport wheels. Tilt the device fromthe front and push along the floor on the wheels atthe front support. We recommend that you use aprotective base when transporting the equipment. To prevent the equipment malfunctioning, store ina dry place with as little temperature variation aspossible and protected from dust.MAINTENANCEThe equipment requires very little maintenance.Check, however, from time-to-time that all screwsand nuts are tight.OWNER'S MANUALAfter exercising, clean the equipment with a soft, absorbentcloth. Do not use solvents. Sweat maycause corrosion: we recommend therefore that youprotect all metal surfaces outside the plastic coverswith teflon.Never remove the equipment’s protective casing. If the equipment is not used for a periodof time, the transmission belt may becometemporarily distorted. This can lead to a sensationof slightly uneven pedaling. However, after a fewminutes of use the effect disappears as the beltreturns to its original form. CHANGING BATTERIESIf the console display fades or disappears, changethe batteries. Detach the lid of the battery casing atthe back of the meter and remove the old batteries.Place the new batteries in the holder (2 x 1.5 VAA) and push the battery casing lid back intoplace.MALFUNCTIONSDespite continuous quality control, defectsand malfunctions caused by individual componentsmay occur in the equipment. In most cases it’sunnecessary to take the whole device in for repair,as it’s usually sufficient to replace the defectivepart. Always give the model, serial number ofyour equipment and in case of malfunctions alsoconditions of use, nature of malfunction and anyerror code.NO
