OWNER'S MANUALpedals B atavus C 3GB2) Donot operate under blanket or othercombustive material. Excessive heating can occurand cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.Safety notice for units with electricpower Screw the pedals into the crank arms. Screw theleft pedal (marked L for left-hand thread) intothe left crank arm. Use the wrench and rotateit counterclockwise. Then screw the right pedal(marked R for right-hand thread) tightly clockwiseinto the right crank arm. Now attach the pedalstraps to the pedals and adjust as desired. Do not use your home exercise unit if there isany sort of damage to the power cord or to theunit.Keep the power cord away from hot objects.Do not use your exercise unit out of doors or indamp locations.Do not route the power cord beneath a carpetand do not place any objects on the cord.Disconnect the plug from the power outletbefore you move the unit, perform any neededmaintenance or open the housing.Do not alter (for example, lengthen) the cordbetween the transformer and the unit.transformerEXERCISINGIf the product is not stable, adjust the stabilizingscrews under the rear support appropriately.EXERCISE LEVELWARNING: ToWorking out using an exercise cycle is excellentaerobic exercise, the principle being that theexercise should be suitably light, but of longduration. Aerobic exercise is based on improvingthe body’s maximum oxygen uptake, which in turnimproves endurance and fitness. The ability of thebody to burn fat as a fuel is directly dependent onits oxygen uptake capacity. Aerobic exercise shouldabove all be pleasant. You should perspire, but youshould not get out of breath during the workout. You must, for example, be able to speak and notjust pant while pedaling. You should exercise atleast three times a week, 30 minutes at a time, toreach a basic fitness level. Maintaining this levelrequires a few exercise sessions each week. Oncethe basic condition has been reached, it is easilyimproved, simply by increasing the number ofexercise sessions. Exercise is always rewarding forweight loss, because it is the only way of increasingthe energy spent by the body. This is why it isalways worthwhile to combine regular exercisewith a healthy diet. A dieter should exercise daily- at first 30 minutes or less at a time, graduallyincreasing the daily workout time to one hour.An appliance should never be left unattendedwhen plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not inuse, and before carrying out any maintenance orrepair procedures. You should start slowly at a low pedaling speedand low resistance, because strenuous exercisemay subject the heart and circulatory system toexcessive strain. As fitness improves, resistance andpedaling speed can be increased gradually. ExerciseInsert the small connector into the receptacle (N)on the unit housing. Then connect the transformerto a 230 volt power outlet. The unit is now readyto use. Before connecting the equipment to a powersource, make sure that local voltage matches thatindicated on the type plate: the equipment operatesat either 230 V or 115 V (North Americanversion). NOTE! The equipment must be connectedto a grounded wall socket. Do not use extensionwires when connecting the equipment to the powersource. Make sure the power cord does not rununderneath the equipment.DANGER: Alwaysswitch off the power andunplug this appliance from the electrical outletimmediately after using.reduce the risk of burns, fire, electricshock, or injury to persons:1)

efficiency can be measured by monitoring thepulse. The pulse meter helps you monitor yourpulse easilyThe chest strap and receiver/adapter are available asoptional extras.during exercise, and thus to ensure that the exerciseis sufficiently effective but not overstrenuous.Do not use more than one measuring system at thesame time.MEASURING PULSE WITH HAND SENSORSHEART RATENo matter what your goal, you’ll get the bestresults by training at the right level of effort, andthe best measure is your own heart rate.First find your maximum heart rate i.e. where therate doesn’t increase with added effort. C3’s metercalculates your approximate maximum pulse levelusing the following formula:220 – AGEThe maximum varies from person to person. Themaximum heart-rate diminishes on average by onepoint per year. If you belong to a risk group, aska doctor to measure your maximum heart rate foryou. We have defined three different heart-rate zones tohelp you with targeted training.BEGINNER 50-60 % of maximum heart-rate.Also suitable for weight-watchers, convalescentsand those who haven’t exercised for a long time.Three sessions a week of at least a half-hour eachis recommended. Regular exercise considerablyimproves beginners’ respiratory and circulatoryperformance and you will quickly feel yourimprovement.OWNER'S MANUAL B atavus C 3TRAINER 60-70 % of maximum heart-rate.Perfect for improving and maintaining fitness.Even reasonable effort develops the heart and lungseffectively, training for a minimum of 30 minutesat least three times a week. To improve yourcondition still further, increase either frequency oreffort, but not both at the same time!ACTIVE TRAINERrate. 70-80 % of maximum heart-C3 measures pulse with sensors which are locatedin the hand supports and which measure thepulse each time the user touches both sensorssimultaneously. For reliable pulse measurement, the skin must bein continuous contact with the sensors and theskin in contact with the sensors should be slightlymoist. Too dry or too moist skin will impair handpulse measurement. Please note also that activeuse of the upper body muscles during exercise mayinterfere with hand pulse measurement: activemuscles transmit similar electronic signals as theheart muscle. Therefore, we recommend that armsbe kept relaxed during pulse measurement.EAR PULSE MEASUREMENTFit the ear sensor wire plug into the connectingpoint of the meter.2. Attach the ear sensor to the earlobe.1.If the sensor does not immediately start measuringyour pulse or if the earlobe is cold, rub theearlobe with the fingers to speed up circulation.Physiological differences between different peoplemay also cause disturbances in pulse measurement. In these cases, try measuring on the insidesurface of the ear or on the tip of your finger. Ifmeasuring disturbances appear while training, test the functioning of the sensor while stationary.Strong, unintentional swaying while trainingmay also disturb measurement. If pulse valuesrise above 150 beats/min., earlobe measurementmay be affected by the speeding up of circulation.Sometimes a strong light source, e.g. a fluorescenttube, in the immediate vicinity of the user maycause disturbances in pulse measurement. In thiscase, test the functioning of the sensor by turningthe ear sensor the other way round on the earlobe.Pulse reading can also be affected, if the batterypower of the meter is too low. Clean the ear sensorafter use with a damp cloth.Exercise at this level suits only the fittest andpresupposes long-endurance workouts.TELEMETRIC HEART RATE MEASUREMENT The heart rate is measured in three ways:This equipment has a built in pulse receiver, whichis C3atible with a telemetric Batavus Pro Checkpulse transmitter.Using the handgrip heart rate sensorsUsing an ear clip with cable (available as anoptional extra)c) Using a chest strap (wireless, telemetric),optionala)b)NOTE! Ifyou are fitted with a pacemaker, pleaseconsult a physician before using a wireless heartrate monitor.

OWNER'S MANUALIf you want to measure your heart rate this wayduring your workout, moisten the groovedelectrodes on the transmitter belt with water.Fasten the transmitter just below the chest with theelastic belt, firmly enough so that the electrodesremain in contact with the skin while training, butnot so tight that normal breathing is prevented. If you wear the transmitter and belt over a lightshirt, moisten the shirt slightly at the points wherethe electrodes touch the shirt. The transmitterautomatically transmits the heart-rate reading tothe meter up to a distance of about 1 meter. Theheart-rate value is displayed in the meter. Followyour heart rate during the training. B atavus C 3GBCONSOLEREMARKS ON TELEMETRIC MEASUREMENTIf the electrode surfaces are not moist, the heartrate reading will not appear on the display. If theelectrodes are dry, they must be moistened again.Allow the electrodes to warm up properly toensure accurate heart-rate measurement. If thereare several telemetric heart rate measurementequipments next to each other, the distancebetween them should be at least 1,5 m. Similarly,if there is only one receiver and several transmittersin use, only one person with a transmitter shouldbe within transmission range. The transmitter isswitched to an active state only when it is beingused for measurement. Sweat and other moisturecan, however, keep the transmitter in an active stateand waste battery energy. Therefore it is importantto dry the electrodes carefully after use. Whenselecting training attire, please note that somefibers used in clothes (e.g. polyester, polyamide)create static electricity, which may prevent reliableheart rate measurement. Please note that a mobile phone, television andother electrical appliances form an electro-magneticfield around them, which will cause problems inheart rate measurement.buttons1. During training, pressing this button once activates the Pause mode.Pressing the button again starts the program again.5. RECOVERYCalculates your fitness indexfunctions1. timeThe training time counts up, starting at 00:00, andruns to 99:59 minutes. Then the time begins againat 00:00. The colon (:) will blink once per second.2. SpeedThe speed is displayed up to 99.9 km/h.Revolutions The crank arm revolutions aredisplayed in rpm (revolutions per minute)

3. DistanceThe distance is displayed in kilometers (km) and,if not preset, counts upward from 0.5 to 99.50. Ifthe distance is preset, this function counts down to0.00 km.4. CaloriesJust like for time or distance, calories can beset to count up or down. A maximum of 9999calories can be displayed per training session.Note on measuring calories: In this unit, energyconsumption is calculated based on averagevalues. Only the revolutions are used to calculatethe values. However, as each person has differentcapabilities for producing energy (known asefficiency), the energy consumption displayedcan, by necessity, only be an approximation ofthe actual consumption and cannot be used fortherapeutic purposes. The energy consumptionduring a training session is displayed in kcal(kilocalories). To convert this into joules, use thisformula:1 kcal 4.187 kJ.5.pulse programsa) Upper pulse limitThe desired upper pulse limit can be preset. Arange of 30 to 240 can be displayed. The inputuses increments of 1. If the upper limit is exceeded,a signal sounds.b) Pulse rate rangesWhile training with pulse rates, the console C3utesthree pulse rate ranges (55/75/90%) in accordancewith your maximum pulse rate based on yourpersonal data.OWNER'S MANUAL B atavus C 3c) Upper pulse limit However, you can also enter a fixed upper pulserate (THR) In the case of b and c, the consolecontrols the resistance in accordance with youractual pulse rate so that you achieve the desired %range or you maintain the set pulse rate. Thus, ifyour pulse rate is too low, the resistance (Level) isincreased until the value is correct -- and vice versa.6. Manual programThis program is provided for training using a fixedresistance (Level 1 -- 16).7. WattThe work performed is constantly shown inwatts on the display (10 -- 350 watts). The inputuses increments of 10 watts. You can specify thewatts in the Manual program. Then, the consoleautomatically regulates of the resistance foruniform performance as a function of the crankrotational speed.8.
