RICKRACK EDGINGUsing rickrack as an edging for appliqué works wellon circles, ovals, and larger shapes with curvededges, and it can add texture and dimension to anotherwise flat quilt. Be sure the width of rickrackyou choose will curve easily around your shape.1. Lay the rickrack on the right side of the circle, lining up one bumpy edge along the outeredge of the circle. Let the two ends of therickrack overlap slightly and extend off of thecircle; pin in place. Using a straight stitch onyour machine, sew around the circle throughthe center of the rickrack, backstitching at thebeginning and ending.2. Flip the rickrack to extend outside the circle. The raw edges of fabric are now turnedunder and your circle has rickrack showing allaround the edge. Press lightly.BRAN MUFFINS2 cups boiling water2 cups natural bran1 cup oil4 eggs3 cups white sugar4 cups buttermilk5 cups flour3 teaspoons baking soda4 cups bran flakes cereal2 cups raisinsIn a small mixing bowl, pour the boiling waterover the natural bran and let sit until the mixtureis cool. Cream the oil, eggs, and sugar together.Add the buttermilk and cooled bran mixture to thecreamed mixture. Sift the flour and baking sodatogether, and then stir into the creamed mixture.Stir in the bran flakes and raisins. Refrigerate themixture for 24 hours or up to two weeks. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375 and grease 24 muffin cups. Fill muffin cups threefourths full of bran batter. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden.3. Lay the edged circle in place on your project.Pin carefully all around the outer edge. Sewthe circle down using a straight stitch and yourzipper foot attachment. This will allow you tostitch against the edge of the circle withoutsewing right on the circle. The outer edge ofthe rickrack will give a wonderful accent to thecircle and add texture to your project.Harvest Spice Trio8
