DELIVERY, HANDLING AND STORAGESAFETY CONSIDERATIONS Always check the shipment upon delivery. Checkfor damage and check material quantities againstthe shipping list. Note any damaged material orshortages at the time of delivery. Never use unsecured or partially installedpanels as a working platform.Do not walk on panels until they are in place on theroof and all of the fasteners attaching the panels tothe roof have been installed. Handle panel bundles and individual panels withcare to avoid damage. Longer bundles and panelsmay require two or more “pick points," spaced nofarther than 10’ apart, to avoid damage that canresult from buckling and/or bending of the panels.Request a copy of the Long Length HandlingInstructions and diagrams from ASC BuildingProducts Customer Service as required. Store the panels and other materials in a dry, wellventilated area and away from traffic. Elevate oneend of the bundle so that any moisture that mayhave accumulated during shipping can run off. Besure that air will be able to circulate freely aroundthe bundles to avoid the build-up of moisture. Neverstore materials in direct contact with the ground. Painted panels are shipped with a protective plasticsheeting or a strippable film coating between allpanels. Remove any strippable film coating priorto installation and in any case, do not allow thestrippable film coating to remain on the panels inextreme heat, cold, or in direct sunlight or other UVsource. Wear clean cotton gloves when handling unpaintedbare panels or flashing to avoid discoloration.Rollforming die marks (which appear black),particularly at bends, will be visible. Wear clean, non-marking, soft soled shoes whenwalking on the panels to avoid shoe marks ordamage to the finish. Do not step on the panelseams or ribs. Step only in the flat area of thepanel. Metal roofing panels are slippery whenwet, dusty, frosty or oily.Do not walk on a metal roof when any of theseconditions are present. Wearing soft soled shoes willhelp minimize slipping and help prevent damage tothe painted surfaces. Do not walk on the panel seams. When walking on the fully installed roof panels, besure to step only in the flat areas of the panels. Always be aware of your position on theroof relative to your surroundings.Take note of the locations of roof openings, roofedges, equipment, co-workers, etc. Always wear proper clothing and safetyattire.Wear proper clothing when working with sheetmetal in order to minimize the potential for cuts, abrasions, and other injuries. ASC Building Productsrecommends safety glasses and gloves. Use care when operating electrical andother power equipment.Observe all manufacturer’s safety recommendations. Skyline Roofing Installation, Flashings & Details GuideSKYLINE ROOFING PANEL PROFILEUse only those accessories specifically designedfor use with this product. Use only galvanized orZINCALUME -coated flashings. Isolate roofing andflashings from contact with dissimilar metals.Important Note:At completion of each day’s work and at completion ofroof installation, sweep panels, flashings, and guttersclean. Take special care not to sweep metal shavingsdown into the gutters. Do not allow fasteners, cuttings, filings, or scraps to accumulate.Note: All flat metal surfaces can display wavinesscommonly referred to as “oil canning". This is causedby steel mill tolerances, variations in the steel substrateand roofing underlayments. Oil canning is an inherentcharacteristic of flat steel products, not a defect, andtherefore is not a cause for panel rejection.Available Products:Coverage16"16"12"Gauge262426Wt. While theuse of power saws may be faster, there are somedisadvantages that must be considered: (1) The edges ofmetal that have been saw cut are jagged and unsightly, and are more likely to rust than sheared edges. (2) Sawcutting will leave small particles of metal on the panelsurface that will rust and damage the panel finish if notcompletely removed.Caulking Gun: For miscellaneous caulking and sealingto inhibit water infiltration.Rivet Tool: Used for miscellaneous flashing and trimapplications.Turn-Up Tool: Available from ASC Building Products, the tool is used to hand brake the ends of the panels asindicated in the details of this manual.Marking Tools: Indelible marker or scratching tools.Scratch Awl: Used to mark the steel.Utility Knife: Used for miscellaneous cutting.Electric Drill: Used to drill holes such as thoserequired for rivet installation.String Line: Used for general alignment and measuring.Tape Measure: 25 ft. minimum (another 50 ft. handy).Locking Pliers: Standard in “Duckbill" style formiscellaneous clamping and bending of parts.Hammer: Used with roofing nails to fasten flashings.Chalk Line: Used to assist in the alignment of panels, flashings, etc.4April 2019 ASC Building Productswww.ascbp.com
