SGB-SMIT GROUPMEDIUM POWER TRANSFORMERSSGB REGENSBURG:A MEMBER OF THE SGB-SMIT GROUPA world in transition: power itself, power generation and power distribution are probably the most important challenges for our future. The SGB-SMIT Group provides you with key technologies and tools worldwide in order to secure markets and to shape the future.SGB-SMIT GROUP”BEST OF BOTH WORLDS“SGB Regensburg forms the SGB-SMIT Group together withSächsisch-Bayerische Starkstrom-Gerätebau, Royal SMITTransformers, Retrasib, SGB-USA, SGB MY, OTC and SMITTransformer Sales. This group of companies stands forprofessionalism, experience, technological knowhow, reliabilityand economic efficiency – these are the skills based on whichthe Group develops and produces power transformers in therange from 50 kVA up to incl. 1,200 MVA within the voltagerange up to 765 kV.The SGB-SMIT Group is the result of a merger of locallyoperating, highly successful medium-sized companies andtoday represents an efficient international network. Acombination which unites the “best of both worlds” for ourcustomers: globally speaking, we offer world-class qualityand market expertise. Locally speaking, our customersbenefit from lean structures and short distances as regardsplanning and production, transport and service. Due to theclose cooperation with our customers, this results in focuseddevelopment. Permanent and structural improvement of theongoing projects ensure fine-tuning of the services requiredlocally on site. The product line includes oil transformers, phase shiftingtransformers, cast-resin transformers, compact stationsand shunt and series reactors. Within the Group, exchange ofknowhow and experience are encouraged.SGB REGENSBURG is a member of the SGB-SMIT GroupEstablished in 1947, SGB is a company with a long tradition.Extensive experience and highly motivated employees ensurethe stable organization of SGB. Thanks to the innovativecorporate philosophy, we succeed over and over again incombining our products with optimally proven technologies, innovation and lean manufacturing. They appreciate thediversified knowhow from layout down to production, combinedwith flexibility and a focus on service. This is why our customersare happy to resort to our demand-based project support at coengineering level.Careful selection of the materials is decisive for the highquality of our products, as are reliable design and soundworkmanship. The interaction of these factors permitscontinuous optimization of losses and noise emissions. In caseof dimensional limitations, adaptation to the most demanding, bespoke customer requirements is also possible. For us, long-term customer relationships and carefully selectedsuppliers are the most important ingredients for deliveringsuccessful results on a sustained basis.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENTRESEARCH & DEVELOPMENTSGB Regensburg complies with all the common internationalstandards, our strength being transformer design, based on therequirements and demands of our customers. To this effect, weuse fully integrated, internally developed design software. Thissoftware is associated with a 3D-CAD package which helps ourdesign engineers to develop effective and efficient customizedmodels. To cover the growing demand from the energy sector, SGBengineers invest plenty of time and resources into research anddevelopment. We create optimized designs thanks to a permanentfocus on ongoing training, inventive talent and creativity asregards engineering criteria and production processes. Importantinstruments in this research work are 3D modeling and applicationof the Finite Element Method. The engineers from SGB cooperatein international working groups within their sector, such as Cigréand IEEE.MEDIUM POWER TRANSFORMERSPRODUCTIONOver 70 years of experience and expertise, combined withcutting-edge equipment, are an important prerequisite whichenables us to continuously optimize our production processes. This results in ongoing improvements regarding quality andsafety of the end product. We combine the fully integrated designprograms with a coordinated production and test environmentincluding horizontal and vertical coil winders, core stacking andclamping robots, separate and air-conditioned coil winding shop, block assembly of the windings, a “vapor phase” drying processand air cushion transport within the test area.5

6MEDIUM POWER TRANSFORMERSTESTING & TRANSPORTTRANSFORMERS MADE BY SGB:THE SPECIAL QUALITY STANDARDTESTINGTRANSPORTEvery unit manufactured within the SGB factory is testedaccording to applicable standards and as required by thecustomer’s specification.Several decades of experience of the SGB Logistics Teamconcerning transport ensure that the transformers aredelivered, unloaded and installed on schedule. The high-voltage test laboratory of SGB Regensburg featuresstate-of-the-art air-conditioning and electrical shielding. Itprovides 3 test stations where all routine and type tests aswell as selected special tests are performed according to thecommon standards such as IEC, ANSI, BS and VDE. Moreover, itfeatures a separate, modern test area for impulse voltage tests,so that 4 transformers can be checked in parallel. With the help of customized logistics solutions and theircertified partners, we manage every challenge, be it specialdimensions, heavy weights, hazardous substances or extremelocal conditions: by road or inland waterways, down to shipmentby ocean vessel, including the subsequent follow-up to ourcustomers world-wide.Oil samples drawn during the test are analyzed immediately inhouse, delivering prompt results in the test phase. To this effect,SGB has established its own oil laboratory. Moreover, our test standards include partial dischargemeasurements at a max. basic interference level of approx.10 - 20 pC, allowing us to significantly improve on the valuespecified by the applicable standards. The deliveries are implemented according to the importrequirements and specificities of the country concerned. No distance is too far!

IN S TAL L AT ION & SERVICEMEDIUM POWER TRANSFORMERSINSTALLATION & SERVICESUSTAINABILITYA permanent team of all-round service specialists and projectmanagers are ready to solve any problem which might arise ona transformer or tap changer - no matter of which type or make. Our team also provides efficient and targeted service for theregular maintenance of the installed transformer base.At the beginning of the third millennium, SGB-SMIT presentsitself as a modern Group which addresses the complete rangeof products and has an excellent reputation for quality andreliability within the industry.“The focus of sustained development is on the current generationsatisfying its needs without compromising the capability ofsubsequent generations to satisfy their own needs”. This quotefrom the World Commission on Environment and Developmentis a straightforward explanation of “sustainability”!Sustained development demands new mindsets and innovativesolutions. The SGB-SMIT Group also wants to live up to thisresponsibility and realize appropriate sustainable development.7
