Exalted Ruler Message — Brian PetersonHello fellow Elks Members,As I prepared this newsletterarticle I realized that this will bethe last one I will be writing. Thispast year has gone by so fast. Ithas been an honor to be your ERthis past year, thank you for yoursupport.I want to share a conversationI recently had with a longstandingfellow Elks member. The subject ofwhat our Elks Lodge does for ourcommunity came up. I started totell him of all the money our lodgedonates to Bismarck and Mandancharities. He said really? It wasthen I knew I needed to make thismy message for my article thismonth.I asked the office to print out allthe different charities our Lodgehas donated to since April 1, 2019.The report I received from themshows approximately 30 differentorganizations received moneythis past year. The money thatwas given ranges from 100.00, 250.00, then 500.00 and higher. In addition, the scholarshipprogram was given 4,000.00alone. I have totaled that thispast years giving to the end ofJanuary 2020 at 85,790.83. Thishas all been given back to ourcommunities in hard cash. This does not include thevolunteer’s hours or gifts in kindto raise the money to give out. Iwould estimate that if we includeda dollar figure to their efforts, wewould be well over 100,000.00in giving. The office has a complete listingof all the organizations receivingour donations but we have beentrying to help veterans, youthprograms, after prom parties, programs geared towards childrenand our first responders as anexample. This is not to say it is hasbeen our only focus, but programsthat also help the community as awhole. This alone should make everymember proud to be an Elk and amember Bismarck-Mandan Lodge1199.I want to take a moment to thankall of my Officers and Trusteeswith their dedication, time andtalent this past year. Without yoursupport, we would not have hadas good of year that we have had. With the new Elks year startingon April 1st, 2020 I know the newOfficers and Trustees will continuetheir fine work. I also want to thankthe office staff for their hard workand dedication as well. To themanagers and employees of theElks, again, thank you for yourwork and dedication making ourvisits enjoyable. As we close this year and a NewYear starting, please remember torenew your membership for the2020-2021 Elk year. As you cansee, your dollars are well usedin our lodge, for our communityand provide a wonderful place togather and enjoy friends and fellowmembers.Fraternally Yours,Brian PetersonExalted RulerBismarck-Mandan 1199It is my sad duty to announcethe death of James Meisner, TedWanner and Paul A.
