75TH ANNUALPEPPERDINE BIBLE LECTURES

MESSAGE FROMMike CopeWe’re so thankful you’ve joined us for the 75thPepperdine Bible Lectures. We have a special themefor this special anniversary: “The Spirit-Filled Peopleof God.”But first, a warning. In the words of StanleyHauerwas and Will Willimon, “It is the nature of theHoly Spirit to shake up the church, particularly when the church becomesself-satisfied and content with the status quo.” Or as Leonard Allen puts itbaldly in his book being released this week, “The Holy Spirit is no tame spirit.”Through prayer, singing, fellowship, and studying—as well as through soakingin the beauty of God’s creation—we want to turn our attention to the blessingof the Holy Spirit. We want to learn, to receive, to be formed, to be sent. You can stay as busy as you want: from early-morning devotionals to latenight classes and events. Or you can sneak off for a prayer walk on the beachor a hike on one of Malibu’s many trails. But our prayer is that in this Harbor, you will find protection and refreshment, calm and excitement, joy and commitment. May the grace of the Lord JesusChrist, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you allthis week.Michael W. CopeDirector of Ministry OutreachPepperdine Office of Church hurch.relations@pepperdine.edu
