DESIRE2012 JAN DES BOUVRIEDESIGN INSPIRATIONHuman desires are as varied as humans themselves. And if ever there was aseating system that could meet any personal preference, it is Jan des Bouvrie’s‘Desire’. Its elements, which include integrated ottoman and table options, areavailable in an impressive range of shapes and sizes. ‘Desire’ allows for ahighly individual take on the design of a seating area.

DESIREDESIGNED BY JAN DES BOUVRIEJan des Bouvrie (1942-2020) has often been credited with ‘havingpainted the Netherlands white’. Born into a family of furnitureretailers, Jan went to the Rietveld Academy for fine arts & designin Amsterdam and subsequently established a name for himselfwith his 1969 design of the ‘Kubus’ (Cube) sofa for furniture brandGelderland, still in production today. When a client ordered oneupholstered in white, it was like a light went on in Jan’s mind. Hebecame a strong advocate of white, clean lines and open spaces,at a time when the average Dutch interior was rather stuffyand traditional. Jan des Bouvrie quickly became a householdname, because he turns his hand to everything, from furniture toindustrial design, from ostensibly mundane objects to large-scalearchitectural projects. Many of his designs—and Jan himself—wonnumerous prestigious awards, and rightfully so. In 1993, he and hiswife, Monique, set up ‘Het Arsenaal’, a leading interior and lifestylestore, which also housed Jan’s studio. The two Jans—Te Linteloand Des Bouvries—went back longer than both cared to rememberand collaborated until Des Bouvrie’s death, aged 78.Legs: Available in a silver or anthracite textured finish.Upholstery: Fabric: removable, available in all fabrics from theLINTELOO collection. As a rule of thumb, fabricupholstery—especially when removable—is easier to clean in caseof spots and spills than leather. On the other hand, leather willhandle regular wear and tear better, in a sense that the odd sign ofuse only adds to its character.Cushions: Again, the level of maintenance depends on your choiceof filling. Down/feather-filled cushions require regular plumping upand airing. But you may prefer the firmer seating experience andhypoallergenic qualities that a 100% polyester filling provides.Legs: The occasional wipe-down with a damp cloth is all it takes.WARRANTYSPECIFICATIONSBase: Metal frame, wrapped in polyurethane foam, with a layer ofhypoallergenic polyester fibre, 100% cotton inner cover.Legs: Steel.Seating elements: Wooden frame.
