DeLaval Optimat II –Feed efficiency gainswith automation

Benefits of Optimat II Increase milk yield and dry matter intake. It isscientifically proven that cows which are fedmany times per day have a higher dry matterintake and produce more milk. Improve cow health. The cows eat the samefresh mixture throughout the day. This meansthe pH in the rumen remains stable, forbetter cow health. Improve feed efficiency – frequentdistribution of feed reduces feed selectionand promotes better digestion in the rumen. It also means there is less waste left on thefeed table. Increase cow activity – with frequent feedingyour cows don’t all feed at the same time, which eliminates ‘rush-hour’ at the feedfence. This enables less dominant cows torelax and eat, increasing their feed intake. And by applying either FeedFirst or freecow traffic you will encourage more frequentvisits to the VMS. Give you control – feed preparationand distribution are done exactly as youwant. You can easily adjust rations whenyou choose. Improve feed hygiene – distributing feed byrail means your feed is not contaminated bythe dirt on tractor and wagon tyres. Reduce your machinery costs – you will onlyneed one tractor or loader to replenish thestationary mixer or buffer table. Save space – if you are planning a new barn,DeLaval feed wagon OTS takes just one thirdof the space required by a tractor-drivenwagon – and you’ll save space outside thebarn too. Reduce labour costs and save time –with reduced work load and efficient timemanagement. DeLaval Optimat offersflexibility in work routines – the mixer doesnot have to be filled during peak morning orafternoon work times. There is no waitingfor feed to be mixed, no waiting for theright time to distribute feed, no manual feeddistribution, and much less sweeping andcleaning of the feed table. Reduce your energy cost – one less tractormeans less diesel is used. DeLaval OTSand RA135 use electricity and operate to apredetermined schedule, so they are veryenergy efficient. Frequent feeding reduces left-overs on thefeed table, because feeding is done moreaccurately.

More milkwith less workRegular frequent delivery of specific feed rations is essential for dairy farming success.Using automatic feeding systems to optimize feed management is a profitable investment– to improve your herd’s health, reproduction and productivity.Automated feeding for more milkWe are all aware that automation isbecoming more and more importantfor efficient and profitable milkproduction. Automated feeding, which enables much more frequentfeeding, will have a positive impacton your animals, your milk yield andyour bottom line: minimizing waste, reducing costs, maximizing nutrition, and maximizing returns. It offers youall this – and a more relaxed lifestyle.Feed frequently for healthy,high-yield cowsIf you feed your animals traditionally, using a mixer-wagon, you probablyfeed out forage just once or twicea day. Now DeLaval Optimat IImakes forage feeding much easier. You will be able to feed your cowsmany times per day, around theclock, with minimal labour – andbenefit from healthier animals, increased milk production, and moreflexibility in your daily work. The right solution for every farmDeLaval offers feeding solutionsfor every farm, even helping you toimprove silage making, or supplyingthe right feed additives for cowsand calves. We have developedDeLaval Optifeeding system toprovide a complete feeding solutionwhich offers graduated levels ofautomation. It includes Optimat forpreparing and distributing roughage;and DeLaval Optifeed for feedingindividual concentrate or mineralrations, via feed stations, in-parlourfeeding, or a concentrate feedwagon. In this brochure we focus on DeLavalOptimat, for frequent deliveries offorage or TMR on to the feed table.

Automatic control ensuresaccurate filling, mixing and distribution: the scale on thestationary mixer can control many feed batches per day.It works with any silos and buffer tables. It activates themotors of augers and conveyors, to automatically load recipecomponents and unload feed for delivery. Feed componentsare stored in buffer tables, silos or mineral dispenser. Atpreset times the stationary mixer automatically loads the feedcomponents – forage, concentrates, minerals – to make oneof many different recipes. After the mixer loads componentsand mixes the feed, the feed wagon – DeLaval RA135 or OTS– distributes feed to the feed table.Conveyors For distributing feedinto the mixer For discharging the mixer and fill thefeed wagonOptimat II – standardThis solution provides automated feed delivery, and feedmixing if required. You of course select the equipment thatwill best suit your needs. Feed can be delivered to the feedtable by a rail-suspended distribution wagon, DeLavalOTS or DeLaval RA135. Feed can be mixed in DeLavalstationary mixer VSM or HSM. If feed does not have to bemixed, a buffer table may be sufficient to hold feed ready fordistribution. The only non-automated task is loading forageinto the stationary mixer or buffer table.Optimat – Master has many benefits, particularly if you wantto feed different rations to specific groups of cows. Rationsare automatically mixed and distributed many times per day,so they are always fresh and accurately mixed. You just needto make sure the buffer tables stay filled. Your work timebecomes much more flexible, as you can fill the buffer tablesat a time to suit you. Optimat does the feeding for you.Optimat II – standardForage is loaded in the conventional way using a loader. The conveyor carries feed to the rail-suspended wagon, which distributes it.

DeLaval Optimat IIModular investmentWith DeLaval Optimat the level of automation can be builtup gradually. You may already have equipment like conveyorbelts, augers and silos that you can combine with otherproducts to make automated feeding work for you. Corecomponents include a mixer and/or buffer table/s, with arail-suspended distribution wagon or shuttle.DeLaval stationary mixer with capacity rangingfrom 8 m3 to 23 m3These robust mixers powered by an electric motor, have anaccurate scale that can be programmed with feed recipes. The mixer augers have knives so different feedstuffs areefficiently cut and blended into a consistent, fluffy, palatablemix. This helps prevent cows from selecting only the moretasty components.DeLaval buffer tableThis provides space for preparing and storing silage beforeit is loaded into a stationary mixer or feed wagon. The buffertable has adjustable telescopic legs, and feed capacityranging from 8 m3 to 23 m3. It can shred whole blocks ofsilage before loading them into the feed wagon.DeLaval feed wagon OTSDeLaval OTS is an advanced automated forage wagon forefficient feed delivery for up to 280 cows. Forage is veryaccurately distributed: you simply programme in the feedtimes, feed quantities, and the groups of cows to be fed,and the 1600 litre OTS takes care of the rest. This versatileshuttle can operate on both straight and curved rails andeven with rail switches, so operating in complex narrowbarns is no problem. It runs on gel batteries.DeLaval feed wagon RA135This is a straightforward, durable, automated feeder, available in three sizes: 2 500, 3 100 and 3 700 litres. Anon-board programmable controller regulates the automaticdistribution of either cut roughage or pre-mixed feed via astring-feeding function. DeLaval RA135 is driven by a powercable on the rail and has capacity to feed450 cows.
