Volume 17 Issue 1ST. ANDREW UNITED METHODIST CHURCHJanuary 2017Grace and Peace to the Saintswords from Pastor Johnof St. Andrew! What an amazing Advent and Christmasseason we’ve just journeyed through. It hasbeen a joy and blessing to walk with you. Justa few of the highlights included: TimothyNoble, a 17 year old pianist and singer, sponsored by the UMW and Hillside Chapel;Breath of Heaven, a beautifully craftedChristmas Musical Cantata; and No Promises, the men’s a cappella ensemble who broughtexhilarating vocals to our Advent journey. As a church, we set three goals for the 2016 –2017 ministry year. I guess we could think ofthem as resolutions as well. These threepriorities were identified from the rich anddiverse ideas shared at the individual CottageMeetings: 1. Youth Ministry 2. Young Adult &Family Ministries and 3. Caring for OurMembership. In August, we welcomed Mr. Ryan Lageman tothe staff of St. Andrew as our Director of YouthMinistries. There’s much work yet to be done, and we need you. The population of Beavercreek exceeds 46,000. Gallup pollsshow an average of 40% of the population attending worship on any given Sunday. That means that right here inBeavercreek, there are approximately 27,600 people without a church home. I am reminded of what Jesus said tohis disciples in Matthew 9:35-38: “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds,he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said tohis disciples, ‘the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send outworkers into his harvest field.’” We, the people of St. Andrew have a firm foundation. It is without question thatSt. Andrew is poised to grow, and grow dramatically. I believe with a renewed sense of purpose and passion thatour desire to grow is not about church survival or simply adding to our numbers. It’s all about inviting people toknow Jesus. So let’s join together and double down in our efforts and faithfulness. My prayer for you, and for ustogether as a church, is that we be unleashed in every way possible to become all that God wants us to be in 2017!May God bless you and your family,Pastor JohnYour gracious and loving support throughout the year is alwaysappreciated, and we are all also very grateful for your amazinglygenerous staff gifts. Thank you most sincerely! Each of us wish each of you a very Happy New Year filled with love, laughter, joy, peace and all of God’s richest blessings!Your St. Andrew UMC staff,Pastor JohnRyanPage 3LauraDebbieAdamEdKaitlinF O O T PR I N T S

We are living ina day where we are encouraged to do life based on how we feel. But the problem is most days we don’t feel like doingmuch of anything hard. Then there is Ruth. She is much more than a Bible story and through her life we uncover five life-giving habits thathelp us to persevere when things get hard, complicated, and messy. But these habits do more than just motivate, they helpus to fight when resistance arises. They teach us to pursue discipline and the desire to determine our daily direction. Thesehabits show how success is not achieved by pursuing temporary desires. The direction of our lives needs to be far lessabout to-do lists and accomplishments. And instead focus on becoming the people God can count on.”FaithLinkConnect faith to current news events, issues in culture and issues in the church. Curriculum is timely, intriguing, and challenging. All Life is Weak and relies upon the Grace of God to sustain it. We see this Grace in how a mother sustains a Weak child. Grace is the noun. Love is the verb, which means: showing Grace. Lets see how we find Grace in the 3-Square. Once again, the short line on the left is thin, not thick like the bar at the top.
