THE SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNIONSentence for the Day:Jesus revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.John 2.11Hymns: 7.30am Eucharist:- TIS : 432, 212, 314, 675.The Collect for the Day:Bountiful God, whose Son revealed his glory at Cana of Galilee: help us to believe andobey, so that, as our Saviour promised, we may be filled with the wine of new lifeand show forth his joy and love; who lives and reigns with you in the unity of theHoly Spirit, one God, now and for ever.1st Reading: Isaiah 62.1-5Amen.Susan Rowe Sarah DaviesFor Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until hervindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. Thenations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be calledby a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. You shall be a crown of beauty inthe hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no morebe termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shallbe called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you,and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shallyour builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall yourGod rejoice over you.

Psalm 36.5-10 (verses will be said alternately with the reader and the congregation)5. Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.6. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgements are like thegreat deep; you save humans and animals alike, O Lord.7. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in theshadow of your wings.8. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from theriver of your delights.9. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.10. O continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your salvation tothe upright of heart!2nd Reading 1 Corinthians 12.1-11Ann Winfield Brian RoyNow concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to beuninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astrayto idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no onespeaking by the Spirit of God ever says ‘Let Jesus be cursed!’ and no one can say‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the sameSpirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties ofactivities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each isgiven the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given throughthe Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledgeaccording to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts ofhealing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, toanother the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to anotherthe interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, whoallots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

Gospel: John 2. 1-11On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesuswas there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When thewine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus saidto her, ‘Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.’His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ Now standing therewere six stone water-jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty orthirty gallons. Jesus said to them, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up tothe brim. He said to them, ‘Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.’ Sothey took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did notknow where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew),the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, ‘Everyone serves the good winefirst, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you havekept the good wine until now.’ Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.Reports for Annual General Meeting:Reports for the Annual General Meeting are to be in before Friday 8th February sothey can be distributed on Sunday 10th February prior to the AGM.These reports can be emailed to the office :- office@stjohnsbulimba.org or handed toFather John, Sarah Davies and the sides persons or welcomers at each service. Please prepare in a Word format or send an email if possible to simplify printing.

God’s people are close to him like a bride is close to her bridegroom, and as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so God rejoices over his people. Now, we receive so many giftsthrough the Spirit every day, often without us fully appreciating them or even being aware of them. The goal ofthese gifts is for us to draw closer to God and to bring others close to him as well. We might like to think abouthow we can use the gifts we are given to make our salvation ‘shine out like a torch’ and bring more joy to God.Pray for the awareness of God’s Spirit active in our lives and in the life of the Church, that we might cultivateand refine our gifts and draw closer to God.Give thanks for the Anglican Church of Kenya, remembering especially today the children enrolled in theCatechesis of the Good Shepherd programs.Text: The Rev Will Johnston, Anglican Board of Mission, 2019

By Rumki Basu 4 administration dichotomy has to do with its normative implications. In other words, the proposed principle is that elected officials have the legal right to make policy decisions, and it is the duty of career civil servants to carry out those policies in good faith. The politics – administration dichotomy has since its inception, been a contested area of public administration .
