IntroductionvIntroductionIn the recent Yugioh tournaments that Stronghold has hosted,many rules have been violated by the participants and theemployees. Stronghold has yet to hire a proper official who canmonitor the duels and enforce the rules on the contenders. Therealso seems to be some confusion on the matter of creating a propertournament bracket. The slots are never even on either sides andthe number of participants is unknown until the day on which thetournament is supposed to take place. All the problems thatStronghold has with the organization of a Yugioh tournament canbe narrowed down to the manual that they are following or do nothave. Therefore this manual will guide the stronghold employeesstep by step on how to host a proper Yugioh tournament with littleto no errors if the instructions and recommendations are followedproperly.

Finding available OfficialsIn order to find well-qualified official flyers should bemade with a detailed position of employment and the contactinformation and directions to the Stronghold Comics and Cardsshop. By doing so the time of error is easy tohandle and the official who might want the job can set up theirappointment to accommodate the date and time on which theywill work. Besides flyers another form of advertisement can bethrough online. By communicating with people via socialmedia and email the possibilities of finding a perfect candidateare multiplied many times over.2. Setting up AppointmentsAfter a few weeks of posting the advertisement for anofficial, those who want the job will contact the store or will walkin for more information. In order to set up adequate appointmentsthe needs of the individual should be placed first, since

A few snacks should be laid out inorder to accommodate the applicant.3. Hiring the right OfficialDuring the interview or the appointment a series ofquestions should be asked in order to check the qualifications ofthe applicants. The questions should concern rules of the game;since the official’s job is to monitor the duels and recognize illegalmoves and actions. Furthermore some applicants may not know therules to well and will not be fit for the job. On the other hand theapplicants that know the game well should be given a series ofsituation in which they can prove themselves to be worthy of theposition. After interviewing each applicant the employees shoulddiscuss on which applicants were most knowledgeable about therules of the game. When considering an individual for the job of anofficial one must always remember to hire a person who is reliableand can work under pressure. After discussing with all the

Advertising the TournamentThe Yugioh Tournament should be held on a weekend sinceit’s a day were most Americans have an off day from their dailyjobs. Of course announcing the idea of a tournament should beposted in the interior and exterior of the card shop in order tonotify customers and by passers. Also the approach of flyers andonline social media should be taken in consideration in order tocatch other people’s attention that do not visit the store or have noidea that where to obtain more information on the matter. Theadvertisements should have decorations that invoke passionateduelist’s interest and should also catch the attention of people whodo not find Yugioh interesting, but can lose themselves in thecontrast of colors and design of the flyers. The stores addressshould be posted on the flyer along with contact information wheremore information about the tournament can be provided.
Chapter Two2. Setting up a deadline to enroll8Normally the Stronghold allows participants to sign up on theday of the tournament which throws off the organization of thebracket. Therefore in order to prevent such disaster a deadlineshould be announced. By doing so the Stronghold can have time toorganize the number of rounds in the tournament. The deadlineshould be a week before the main event and participants shouldleave their contact information in case the tournament is postponedor cancelled due to any inconvenience. The dead line should beattached in all the advertisement flyers along with detaileddescriptions on how to sign up.3. Calculating the number of participantsAfter the deadline of enrolling the employees should tally upthe number of participants. The tournament bracket should bemade where half the participants will be in two distinct differentblocks. After doing so a number of rounds should be proportionalto the amount of people in each block. Also the final round shouldbe between the last two participants of different blocks. In the

Yetthe base case scenario is an even amount of participants are presentand the brackets can be filled in smoothly and the tournament cantake its course easily.

Chapter Three11Setting up1. DecorationsThe interior of the Stronghold should be decorated with thetheme of Yugioh. Posters should be hoisted on the walls and on theentrance of the store. The lighting of the building should bedimmed a bit in order to create a soothing environment. Theposters should portray monsters that are well known by most“duelist”.For example; Blue Eyes White Dragon Sliver the Sky Dragon Dark Magician The Winged Dragon of RaThe decorations should be dark colors, since they go with theoverall theme of Yugioh and will not distract the participantsduring their duels. SnacksThe tournament will last for a few hours and the contestantswill get hungry. Hunger can affect a person’s thinking and mood.Therefore during the course of the tournament snacks should beprovided. Foods that are not messy and do not stain are the bestchoice, since no one wants to dirty their cards with chocolate orcaramel. Chips, cookies, popcorn, and hard candy should beenough. The amount of snacks purchase should always be morethan the amount of contestants present for the event. Usuallypeople try to estimate the amount of food needed, but in thissituation it’s better to overestimate the amount of food than havingto go buy more snacks during the tournament. Drinks should alsobe provided in order to wash down the snacks. The best optionshould be canned cokes. They are easy to distribute and they arecheaper when bought in large amounts. The stronghold should stayaway from freshly made punch, due to risk of spills and the
Chapter Three13amount of paper cups needed. Also snacks should be distributed tothe participants who await their turn to duel. No participant shouldbe allowed to duel with a soda or chips since they will bedistracted and will for sure make a mess that will sabotage theduel.3. The Banned listBy this point the tournament is probably a few hours frominitiating and the last bit of touch ups are being completed. Thetournament cannot commence without the officials possessingcopies of the “banned list”. The list can be obtained from theofficial Yugioh website (www.Yugioh.com). The list is up to datewith the cards that cannot be used in tournaments. The officials aresupposed to inspect the participating duelist decks and look forcards that are not allowed in tournaments. If none are found theduelist can commence with their duels, but if cards are found theofficials should confiscate the cards until the end of thetournament. All the participants have to allow the inspection oftheir decks in order to compete in the tournament. No participant
