Good to see you!! A special welcome to Janina Robinson who joinedSArv127.The introduction period required eachattendee to briefly describe his/her newmodeling projects for 1995. About 101/4A nostalgia models are planned.Other projects included several 1/2 ATexaco, rubber and CO2 models, BobMunn is honing his diesel skills with aPowerhouse doing 21 minutes on 24cc offuel. Jerry Rochais also arranging to purchase some of thebutton dethermalizer timers for prizes. Inaddition we will also have an Ace RICreceiver for a prize. The disposition of the several modelingitems donated by Joanne Mathieu (listedin the January issue of the Antique Flyer)wes discussed. Steve Rem!!'!gto!'!suggested a silent auction. It was agreedthat Steve would review the items andestablish a minimum bid for each itemand present this at the February meeting. It was tentatively agreed that the clubwould purchase the major electric items(Futaba radio, battery charger, motor Iprop, Eclipse glider kit and seven cellNicad battery) as a package for the yearend raffle prize. The final decisionregarding how to proceed and theallocation of colleCted monies to theJUNIOR OLD TIMERSJunior Old Timer program will bediscussed at the February meeting.Since it was a school night and examslooming in the near future, Junior OldTimers attendance was limited to ScottSeronello. The 1995 dues are payable. Bythe end of the meeting we had a total of45 paid members. As an incentive,President Rod Persons, suggested that afree raffle ticket be given to each memberIssue 150February 1995The Club's power lawn mover was in thecustody of Gene Mathieu and is presentlystored in his shop. It needs a new home.A volunteer with a pickup or trailer andstorage space to keep the mower isneeded. Ed Hamler agreed to check tosee if it might be possible to store it in theDomaine Chandon shed near theLakeville flying site.INSURANCERod Persons has reviewed recentcorrespondencereceived from the AMAPage 1and Sport Flyers regarding insurancecoverage. His recommendation is tocontinue with AMA only. Carrying of twopolicies only leads to complications if aclaim is made. The members agreed tothis recommendation.MECA COLLECTOMembers were reminded of the MECAwinter collecto scheduled for Saturday,February 18, 1995 at the Oakland AirportWestern Aerospace Museum. In an effortto sell more of the 0 & R T-shirts anddecals, Jerry Rocha will work with RoccoFerrario to have them available at one ofthe tables. Jerry will also take the GeneMathieu Dynajet engine to see whatinterest it may attract.SAM SURVEYSAM President, Don Bekins reported thathe had received about twenty responsesto the survey sheet published in theFebruary issue of SAM Speaks. Verypreliminary results indicate a 4 to 1margin against eliminating the GrandChampions awards at the SAM Champsand for continuing to allow glow enginesin the events. Also, there appears to be agood number of "crossover" (Free flight &R.C.) flyers. Western Vice President EdHamler has sent a letter to all westernSAM chapters encouraging response tothe survey questionnaire of all chaptermembers, whether or not they belong toSAM National.ANTIQUE FLYERAs the editors, Melanie and I want tothank SAM 27 members for all theencouragement and kind words about thepublication of the newsletter. We areonly humbly following in the footsteps ofthe former editor who laid the groundworkand has gone on to bigger and betterthings. Last, but not least, it would beimpossible to put together the newsletterwithout the wonderful minutes andguidance provided by John Carlson

Thebalsa is securely fastened to the base, thefence adjusted and a cutter moved alongthe fence to strip the balsa. The cuttermay be a #11 X-acto blade, but Earlprefers a star razor blade (if you can findsome). Earl says he can strip to .015" orless. However, it will not handle 1/4" thick,15# baisa.--.Nick Sanford showed a battery chargerhe is working on using plans in theNovember, 94 Model Builder article. Errorsin the article required Nick to contact PhilBernhardt (Model Builder Editor). Thecharger is designed to charge one to sixnicad cells at an adjustable rate of 0 - 500m.a. from a 12 volt supply. When Nickgets all of the bugs exterminated, perhapshe will demonstrate it at a future meeting.Tim Younggren exhibited his entry for the1/4A nostalgia free flight gas (1995 SAMproject). It is a Sal Tabi Brooklyn Dodger, beautifully constructed and covered inTim's trademark yellow and black lightsilkspan. The model features a buttontimer DT, a K&B fuel cut-off and weighs inat 3.8 ounces.Bill Vanderbeekdescribed a method forforming propeller blades. After soaking inwater and strapping to the form with gauzestrips, it is placed in a microwave oven andcooked (on high?) for 1 1/2 minutes, allowed to cool and, cooked again foranother two one-minute periods with acooling interval between. Do not cook toolong or it will burn. Bill doesn't know why,but he thinks the prop holds its shapebetter when microwaved than when it isheated in a conventional oven.

Antique FlyerJQhn Hlebcar produced his 1/4A free flightentry in-progress. The model is a Fubarwith fuselage and tail framed. The DT stabis unusual in that the TE is hinged and theLE drops. There was some discussion asto whether the stab should just flop on thehinge after DT or whether it should berotated to a TE up position.John CarlsonFebruary 1995Oakland, CASat., February 18,199510 A.M. to 3 P.M.WINTER COLLECTOSWAP & SELLENGUNES-PLANES-BOATS-CARSR1C--Control Line--Free FligbtAny bobby related itemsOLD and NEWshowed a 1/2A starter madeby Gene Mathieu.
