When the epidemic hit Leipzig,Hahnemann treated 180 people and lost only 2 (less than 1%) – Allopathic mortality rateswere 30%Prompt treatment of the disease with antibiotics reduces the mortality rate to approximately1%. When untreated, typhoid fever usually lasts for three weeks to a month. Death occurs inbetween 10% and 30% of untreated cases.AllopathicTreatmentImperialCouncil ofRussiaAllopathicTreatmentOsler'sPractice ofMedicineMortality Rate in Cholera Epidemic 1831Dr Quin reported that the death in 10 homeopathic hospitals were 9%Deaths under homeopathic treatment in Russia were 10% (Admiral Mordoinow)Deaths under homeopathic care in Bavaria (Dr Roth reported) 7%Cholera Epidemic 1831 AustriaCholera Epidemic 1854 ‐ London59%Cholera 1831 ‐ athy0.00%30%HomoepathyAllopathy20%Historically important epidemic ‐ it was the first time a disease outbreak was traced to aparticular source – in this case a public water pump. The pump was closed & epidemicceased. All in all 10,738 people died. The House of Commons requested a reportregarding the various methods of treating the epidemic. When the report was issued,no homeopathic figures were included. The House of Lords requested an explanation, and it was admitted that if the homeopathic figures were to be included in the report, itwould "skew the results’ so it was suppressed. Upon examination, the buried reportrevealed that under allopathic care the mortality was 59.2% while under homeopathiccare mortality was only 9%.10%0%HomeopathyAllopathyThese figures were reported by Dr Wild – an allopathic physician ‐ in the DublinQuarterly Journal and “on account of this extraordinary result, the lawinterdicting the practice of homeopathy in Austria was repealed”3

In 1878, Saturnino de Meirelles and others re‐created the old InstitutoHomeopatico do Brasil and in 1880, they changed the name to Instituto Hahnemanniano doBrazil, which still exists. (Bradford)26000HomeopathyDiphtheria was difficult to treat as despite its periodicity, it rarely had the samepresentation. Practitioners needed to be able to quickly prescribe on an individual byindividual basis. Occasionally, the disease would throw up particularly definite symptomsthus enabling the practitioner to prescribe a genus epidemicus.4Dr. T A McCann, from Dayton, Ohio reported that 24,000 cases of flu treated allopathically hada mortality rate of 28.2% while 26,000 cases of flu treated homoeopathically had a mortalityrate of 1.05%.This last figure was echoed and endorsed by Dr Dean W.A. Pearson of Philadelphia(Hahnemann College) who recorded 26,795 cases of flu treated with homeopathy with theabove result.

2. Novel Coronavirus Info and UpdatesThe SARS-CoV-2 virus is a betacoronavirus, like MERS-CoVand SARS-CoV, both of which have their origins in bats.“The term ‘corona’ simply means crown”7

2. Novel Coronavirus Info and UpdatesPeople around the world commonly get infected withhuman coronaviruses 229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1.Sometimes coronaviruses that infect animals canevolve and make people sick and become a newhuman coronavirus. Three recent examples of thisare 2019-nCoV, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV.Common human coronaviruses1.2.3.4.229E (alpha coronavirus)NL63 (alpha coronavirus)OC43 (beta coronavirus)HKU1 (beta coronavirus)Coronaviruses are types of viruses that typically affectthe respiratory tract of mammals, including humans. They are associated with the common cold, pneumonia, and severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS) and can also affect the gut.Other human coronavirusesA coronavirus was first isolated in 1937 from aninfectious bronchitis virus in birds that has the ability toseriously devastate poultry stocks.5. MERS-CoV (the beta coronavirus thatcauses Middle East RespiratorySyndrome, or MERS)6. SARS-CoV (the beta coronavirus thatcauses severe acute respiratorysyndrome, or SARS)7. SARS-CoV-2 (the novel coronavirus thatcauses coronavirus disease 2019, orCOVID-12)These viruses are responsible for between 15 and 30percent of common colds.Over the last 70 years, scientists have found thatcoronaviruses can infect bats, camels, mice, rats, dogs, cats, turkeys, horses, pigs, and cattle.8

2. Novel Coronavirus Info and UpdatesHow did it start? This virus is not really "new" - it is just new to humans, having jumped from one species toanother. Many of the early cases were linked to the South China Seafood Wholesale Market,in Wuhan. In China, a lot of people come into close contact with animals harboring viruses- and the country's dense urban population means the disease can be easily spread.Other theories are a possible release of a genetically modified version of the coronavirus.Serval research labs around the world have been working on the coronavirus for years.Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which is also caused by a coronavirus, startedoff in bats and then infected the civet cat, which in turn passed it on to humans. The SARSoutbreak, which started in China in 2002, killed 774 of the 8,098 people infected.11

2. Novel Coronavirus Info and UpdatesHow deadly is the coronavirus?Based on data from 17,000 patients with this coronavirus, the WHO says: 82% develop mild symptoms 15% develop severe symptoms 3% become critically illThe proportion dying from the disease, which has been named Covid-19, appears low(between 1% and 2%) - but the figures are unreliable. But it is also unclear how many mildcases remain unreported - so the death rate could also be lower. To put this it into context, about one billion people catch influenza every year, with between 290,000 and 650,000deaths. The severity of flu changes every year.Dr. Li WenliangDr. Li Wenliang Memorial12

2. Novel Coronavirus Info and UpdatesCan coronavirus be treated or cured?Right now, allopathic treatment relies on the basics keeping the patient's body going, includingbreathing support, until their immune systemcan fight off the virus. However, the work to develop a vaccine is underway and it is hoped there will be human trials beforethe end of the year. Hospitals are also testing antiviral drugs to see if they have an impact.13

2. Novel Coronavirus Info and UpdatesHow can I protect myself? The WHO says: Wash your hands - soap or hand gel can kill the virus Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing - ideally with a tissue - andwash your hands afterwards, to prevent the virus spreading Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth - if your hands touch a surfacecontaminated by the virus, this could transfer it into your body Don't get too close to people coughing, sneezing or with a fever - they can propelsmall droplets containing the virus into the air - ideally, keep 1m (3ft) away17

2. Novel Coronavirus Info and UpdatesAlthough virologists are doubtful about theireffectiveness against airborne viruses, there issome evidence to suggest the masks can helpprevent hand-to-mouth transmissions.Dr David Carrington, of St George's, University ofLondon, told BBC News "routine surgical masksfor the public are not an effective protectionagainst viruses or bacteria carried in the air",which was how "most viruses" were transmitted, because they were too loose, had no air filter andleft the eyes exposed.18

4. Novel Coronavirus and PneumoniaWhat is pneumonia?Pneumonia is an infection of the tiny air sacs of the lungs. Thereare many different types of pneumonia, which can range frommild to severe. Depending on its cause, pneumonia can be fatal, and it remains a common cause of death worldwide.24

4. Novel Coronavirus and PneumoniaTypes of PneumoniaBacterial Pneumonia: Certain bacteria likeStreptococcus pneumoniae, Chlamydophilapneumoniae, and Legionella pneumophila causepneumonia.Viral Pneumonia: Respiratory viruses are anothercommon cause of pneumonia. However, viralpneumonia is not as serious as bacterial pneumonia.Influenza A and B viruses are the main cause ofpneumonia. in adults, and the main cause of viralpneumonia in infants is the Respiratory syncytial virus(RSV).Mycoplasma Pneumonia: Mycoplasma pneumonia iscaused by a genus of bacteria called Mycoplasmapneumoniae. This bacterial species lacks a cell walland hence remains unaffected by most over-thecounter antibiotics.Fungal Pneumonia: This type of pneumonia is mainlycaused by fungi that are present in the soil or birddroppings. Fungal pneumonia easily affects those whohave chronic diseases or weak immune systems.25

4. Novel Coronavirus and PneumoniaTypes of PneumoniaBased On Where It Was Acquired (Location) Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia: If you developpneumonia during a hospital stay, it is referred toas hospital-acquired pneumonia. Community-Acquired Pneumonia: This type ofpneumonia is usually acquired in a public placeand not in a hospital or institutional setting.Based On How It Was Acquired Aspiration Pneumonia: If you happen todevelop pneumonia by inhaling bacteria fromfoods, drinks or saliva, it is called aspirationpneumonia. This type usually occurs when theinfected individual has difficulty in swallowing. Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia: Individualsusing a ventilator can also develop pneumonia.26

4. Novel Coronavirus and PneumoniaHow is pneumonia diagnosed?Physicians may suspect pneumonia if they hear cracklingand wheezing sounds when listening to a patient’s lungs witha stethoscope. A chest x-ray can usually confirm thepresence of fluid in the lungs that indicates pneumonia.Sometimes, the physician may order additional tests, includingblood tests and cultures of lung fluid or sputum. He or she will they measure your temperature, bloodpressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate, and will alsocheck your oxygen level using pulse oximetry. This is doneby placing a small device on your finger to estimate thepercentage of oxygen in your blood. Low levels of oxygen areconcerning and may mean that you need to be put on oxygen.Chest X-RayIf pneumonia is suspected based on symptoms and physicalexam, the standard of care is to get a chest X-ray. A chest Xray may show an infiltrate, which is a collection of pus, blood, or protein in the lung tissue.PCR and Enzyme ImmunoassaysIt can be difficult to culture a virus. Instead, viral infections aremore commonly diagnosed using polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and enzyme immunoassays.27

4. Novel Coronavirus and PneumoniaWhat is the conventional pneumonia treatment?Conventional treatment for pneumonia depends on thecausative agent and the condition of the patient. Forbacterial pneumonia, the physician will likely prescribeantibiotics. These antibiotics won’t help for viral pneumoniawhich typically calls for treatment similar to that for theflu – plenty of rest and fluids – although antiviralmedications can sometimes help.Bacterial infections often follow these viral infections, however, so antibiotics may be given to prevent thepneumonia from progressing. Over-the-counterdrugs can help ease pain and relieve fever. Severepneumonia requires treatment with intravenousmedications such as antibiotics, and withsupplemental oxygen.Occasionally patient will need to be placed on amechanical ventilator to maintain lung functionwhile the infection is cleared. Physicians mayrecommend the pneumococcal vaccine to helpprevent pneumonia in people at high risk for it.Antiviral drugsRemdesivir28FavilavirGalidesivir

6. Homeopathic Remedies for PneumoniaIn 1928, Drs. Alfred and Dayton Pulford, both were staunch defendants ofHahnemannian homeopathy from Toledo, Ohio, wrote in their monographon treating pneumonia with homeopathic remedies,The authors:No apology is needed for the birth of this little Monograph, the appallingmortality among pneumonia patients attests the demand for just suchan one. It has been stated, and we have every reason to believe truly, thatfully 80% of all pneumonia cases would get well without any medicalinterference whatever, under proper nursing, so that any system ormethod of medical healing that cannot lower the death-rate to less than20% would seem rather a menace than a blessing to pneumonia patients. After treating 242 cases of pneumonia, of ALL types and degrees ofseverity, some coming directly from and others having been confirmed in thediagnosis by allopaths, with but 3 deaths, a rate of but 1.4%, we can hardlyunderstand a fixed minimum death-rate of 25%, much less a maximumrate of 95%, in a disease as readily amenable to the proper remedy as ispneumonia. The death-rate under the homeopathic similimum should atno time exceed 5%, a higher rate would rather reflect on our ability.Drs. Alfred and Dayton Pulford, MDIt is with the hope of aiding the physician to find the similimum and to reducehis death-rate that this little Monograph is written.34
