Aims and Scope The Journal of the InternationalNeuropsychological Society is the official journal ofthe International Neuropsychological Society, anorganization of over 4,500 international membersfrom a variety of disciplines. The Journal of theInternational Neuropsychological Society welcomesoriginal, creative, high quality research paperscovering all areas of neuropsychology. The focus ofarticles may be primarily experimental, applied, orclinical. Contributions will broadly reflect the interestof all areas of neuropsychology, including but notlimited to: development of cognitive processes,brain-behavior relationships, adult and pediatricneuropsychology, neurobehavioral syndromes (suchas aphasia or apraxia), and the interfaces of neuropsychology with related areas such as behavioralneurology, neuropsychiatry, genetics, and cognitiveneuroscience. Papers that utilize behavioral, neuroimaging, and electrophysiological measures areappropriate. To assure maximum flexibility and to promotediverse mechanisms of scholarly communication, thefollowing formats are available in addition to RegularResearch Articles: Brief Communications are shorterresearch articles; Rapid Communications are intended for “fast breaking” new work that does not yetjustify a full length article and are placed on a fastreview track; Neurobehavioral Grand Rounds aretheoretically important and unique case studies;Critical Reviews and Short Reviews are thoughtfulconsiderations of topics of importance to neuropsychology, including associated areas, such as functional brainimaging, genetics, neuroepidemiology, and ethicalissues; Dialogues provide a forum for publishing twodistinct positions on controversial issues in a pointcounterpoint format; Symposia consist of severalresearch articles linked thematically: Letters to theEditor respond to recent articles in the Journal of theInternational Neuropsychological Society; and BookReviews. Critical Reviews, Dialogues, and Symposiaare typically invited by the Editor-in-Chief or anAssociate Editor. Book Reviews are considered butare no longer solicited.Originality and Copyright To be considered forpublication in the Journal of the InternationalNeuropsychological Society, a manuscript cannothave been published previously nor can it be underreview for publication elsewhere. Papers with multiple authors are reviewed with the assumption thatall authors have approved the submitted manuscriptand concur with its submission to the Journal ofthe International Neuropsychological Society. ACopyright Transfer Agreement, with certain specifiedrights reserved by the author, must be signed andreturned to the Editor-in-Chief by the correspondingauthor of accepted manuscripts, prior to publication. This is necessary for the wide distribution of researchfindings and the protection of both author and thesociety under copyright law. If you plan to includematerial that has been published elsewhere and isunder copyright of a third party, you will need toobtain permission to re-use this material in yourarticle. A form may be provided for this purpose bythe editorial office. Alternatively, many publishersuse an online system for such requests. It is theresponsibility of the authors to obtain permissions tore-use material from elsewhere. For informationregarding rights and permissions concerning theJournal of the International NeuropsychologicalSociety, please contact Marc Anderson (manderson@cambridge.org) or Adam Hirschberg (ahirschberg@cambridge.org).Disclosure Potential conflicts of interest includefunding sources for the reported study (e.g., a testvalidation study financially supported by a testpublisher, a study supported by an insurance company), personal or family financial interest in a test orproduct or with a company that publishes a test that isbeing investigated in the manuscript or competes witha test that is being investigated in the manuscript.Other conflicts include employment, consultancies, stock ownership or medicolegal work. For the latter, information about whether the author’s medicolegalwork is largely for one side should be reported. Thislist of potential conflicts is not all inclusive, and it isthe responsibility of each author to ensure that allof their “potential conflicts” are reported in theAcknowledgment section of the paper.Regular Research Article: Maximum of 5,000 words(not including abstract, tables, figures, or references)and a 250 word abstract. Regular Research Articlesare original, creative, high quality papers covering allareas of neuropsychology; focus may be experimental, applied or clinical.Brief and Rapid Communications: Maximum of2,500 words (not including abstract, tables, figures, orreferences) and a 200 word abstract, with a maximumof two tables or two figures, or one table and onefigure, and 20 references. Brief and Rapid Communications are shorter research articles.Disclosure pertains to all authors. It is the correspondingauthor’s ethical responsibility to explicitly check witheach of his/her co-authors to ensure that any real orapparent conflict of interest is appropriately disclosed.Authors should err on the side of full disclosure, and ifauthors are uncertain about what constitutes a relevantconflict, they should contact the editorial officejins@cambridge.org. The intent of this disclosure isnot to prevent an author with a significant financial orother relationship from publishing their work in theJournal of the International NeuropsychologicalSociety, but rather to provide readers with adequateinformation to form their own judgments aboutthe work.Case Reports: Maximum of 3,500 words with aninformative literature review (not including abstract, tables, figures, or references) and a 200 word abstract.Unique case studies that make a significant theoreticalcontribution.Compliance with institutional research standardsfor animal or human research (including a statementthat the research was completed in accordance withthe Helsinki Declaration 3/) should be included inthe methods section of the manuscript.Short Review: Maximum of 2,500 words (notincluding abstract, tables, figures, or references) and a150 word abstract. Short Reviews are conceptuallyoriented snapshots of the current state of a researcharea by experts in that area. Short Reviews must bepreapproved by the Editor-in-Chief.
