2020PRESIDENT’SPAGETony Matthews TWU PresidentSame Job,Same Pay,Same FightLIFTING INDUSTRY STANDARDSNOTHING CHANGES FOR THE TWU,no matter what legislation is in place weare prepared and ready to do what weneed to do for our members.IF YOU AREA DODGYEMPLOYER OR ACLIENT PLACINGTOO MUCHPRESSURE ONTHE TRANSPORTINDUSTRY, THENWE ARE COMINGTO GET YOU . WEWILL SEE THATYOU ARE HELD TOACCOUNT.If you are a dodgy employer or a clientplacing too much pressure on thetransport industry, then we are comingto get you. We will see that you are heldto account, we will see that you takeon your shared responsibility for a saferand fairer transport industry. We are in yards making sure that thetransport industry is paying workersfairly for a fair day’s work. We arehunting down the employers who preyon the vulnerable workers, the casualstudent worker or the visa holder, thosewho are most often exploited. We aretaking on the gig economy becausewe know it will expand from the bikeriders to trucks. Heineken in Germanyis already moving beer via Uber Freight. We know that Daniel Mookhey inNSW and Tony Sheldon in the federalparliament will continue to watch thisissue.Across the industry, wage theft isdiabolical, and the fines to prevent thisfrom occurring are inadequate. I am stillmystified that road deaths are still onthe climb. There are still companies that4 TWUNEWS SUMMER 2019are not coming to the table to ensuretheir supply chain is safe.We are stepping up the fight foraccountability in the industry and wenote that organisations like NatRoadand the ATA are finally beginning tounderstand that the industry needs totake their share of the responsibility. There is always a benefit to beingpart of the TWU. Our 2020 plan isbuilding strength. We have a big yearcoming where we are making claimson the industry to ensure that the ideaof the same job for the same pay isFACEBOOK.COM/TWUNSWthe same fight. We must ensure that all who work intransport are not being exploited.
