2016 SEC TOURNAMENTThe Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament returns for a19th consecutive year to the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in thesouth-Birmingham city of Hoover, Ala., May 24-29.The 2016 SEC Baseball Tournament will continue to feature 12 teamsand will remain set to begin on Tuesday, May 24. Seeds 5-12 will meetin a single elimination format on the opening day of the tournament,followed by traditional double-elimination play Wednesday-Friday. Thetournament will return to single elimination play on Saturday. A total of17 games will be played throughout the tournament.The 12 teams are seeded 1-12 with the two divisional champions andtop four seeds guaranteed opening-round byes, with the possibility ofearning another later in the bracket. The tournament field will includethe top teams from the SEC’s Eastern and Western Divisions plus 10 atlarge bids seeded 3-12 based on conference winning percentage.In 2015, Florida defeated Vanderbilt 7-3 in a championship game thatfeatured two top 10 teams and a national television audience.The Hoover Met formerly served as home of the Double-A BirminghamBarons (Chicago White Sox) of the Southern League. The stadium alsohas served as host of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Final Four, as well ashome to the nationally renowned Hoover Buccaneer high school footballprogram.Located eight miles south of Birmingham, Regions Park seats 10,800for baseball, but can accommodate over 16,000 when the patio, banquetand side grassy areas are used. The stadium also houses 12 suites andstate-of-the-art dressing and training rooms. Wireless internet access wasadded in 2004, concourse and signage renovation was done in 2005 anda second-level pressbox expansion, new stadium seating and an exteriorfacelift in 2007 completed a 6 million renovation project. A new HDvideo scoreboard was added in 2008, while the SEC introduced the nationto a ‘pitch clock’ in 2010. A new sound systems and concourse amenitiessuch as refurbished restrooms big screen HDTVs at concessions standswere added in 2012.The 2015 SEC Baseball Tournament drew 132,178 fans to The HooverMet, a new record-high for the event. Twelve times in the last 14 yearsthe tournament has surpassed the six-digit mark in total attendance.The SEC is scheduled to keep its baseball tournament in Hoover atThe Hoover Met through 2016 under the current contract.All games of the tournament have been televised in high definitionsince 2008. In 2015, for the first time in the history of the tournament, allgames of the SEC Baseball Tournament were nationally televised.SEC TOURNAMENT SEEDING: The two division champions shallbe automatically seeded number one and number two based on winningpercentage in conference competition. The rest shall be seeded numbersthree through 12 based on winning percentage without regard to division.Ties will be broken in the following manner:1. Two-Team Tie. The following procedure will be used in the followingorder until the tie is broken:A. Won-lost results of head-to-head competition between the two tiedteams.B. If two-teams are divisional opponents:(1) Won-lost percentage within their division (over the 15-gameSEC division schedule).(2) Won-lost percentage of the two teams versus the No. 1 teamin their division (and proceeding through the No. 7 team, ifnecessary).C. If two teams are not divisional opponents:(1) Won-lost record of the two teams versus the No. 1 seed usingcommon opponents only (and proceeding through the No. 12seed, if necessary).(2) Coin flip by the Commissioner2. Three-Team Tie (or more). The following procedure will be used in thefollowing order until the tie is broken: (Note: If the three tied teamshave three different records against each other, they shall be seededin best-percentage order.) Otherwise, once the tie has been reduced totwo teams, the two-team tiebreaker procedure will be used.A. If all three teams are common opponents: Total won-lostpercentage of games played among the tied teams.B. Won-lost percentage of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed andproceeding through the No. 12 seed, if necessary, using commonopponents only.C.
