Sunday of the Prodigal SonFebruary 28, 2021EPISTLE READINGThe reading is from Saint Paul’s 1st Letter to the Corinthians 6:12-20Brethren“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but Iwill not be enslaved by anything. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”— and Godwill destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and theLord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know thatyour bodies are members of Christ? Shall I therefore take the members of Christ and make themmembers of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becmes onebody with her? For, as it is written, “The two shall become one esh.” But he who is united to the Lordbecomes one spirit with him. Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body;but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the HolySpirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Soglorify God in your body and in your spirit which belong to GodGOSPEL READINGThe reading is from Saint Luke 15: 11-32Let us attendThe Lord said this parable: “There was a man who had two sons; and the younger of them said tohis father, ‘Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.’ And he divided his living betweenthem. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living. And when he had spent everything, a great faminearose in that country, and he began to be in want. So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens ofthat country, who sent him into the elds to feed swine. And he would gladly have lled his belly with thepods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself he said, ‘How manyof my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger! I will ariseand go to my father, and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am nolonger worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants.’ And he arose and came to hisfather. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embracedhim and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I amno longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet; and bring the fatted calf and kill it,and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead, and is alive agian; he was lost, and is found.’ Andthey began to make merry. Now his elder son was in the eld; and as he came and called one of theservants and asked what this meant. And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father haskilled the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound. But he was angry and refused to go in.fi.flfifi,,2

Sunday of the Prodigal SonFebruary 28, 2021The Parable of the Prodgal SoThe Parable of the Prodigal Son tells of a father with two sons. The youngest son asks his father to givehim his share of his father’s estate. It implies that the son could not wait for his father to die to receive hisinheritanceWhen he received his share of the estate, this son leaves for a far off country and spending all hismoney on women, wine and song and loses everything. A great famine strikes the area and forces the youngman to take employment herding swine. With no money, no food, the son searches his inner soul and realizesall that he has done wrong, and decides to come home to his father’s house to ask him for forgiveness and totake him back, not as a son but as a worker on his farmThe parable suggests that the father always held the hope that this son would return and was alwayskept an eye open, searching in his heart and soul to see his son once again. The father saw his son comingdown the road, ran to him, embraced him and with a kiss welcomed him home and ordered his servants to.Bring him a robe, sandles, and a ring and to slaughter the fatted calf to celebrate. The son starts off with hisrehearsed speach the prepared, telling his father that he had sinned against God and against him as wanted to beplaced among the servants. The father had none of this and joyously welcomed him back into the familyThe older brother, who was working in elds, upon coming home heard music, laughter, and merrymaking and asked a servant what was happening. Upon learning that his brother had returned, he became angryand refused to go in and join in the festivities. When the father came out to ask him to come in, the son told hisfather that he always obeyed him, was always faithful and never let him down and that he was never given afatted calf to make merry with his friends. Having heard this, the father said to him, “Son, everything I have isyours, but your brother was lost and now he is found. He was dead and now he is alive. As we re ect upon this parable, wasn’t this father doing what any good father would do by forgivingand welcoming back an estranged child, brother, sister or another member of the family back into the family?Isn’t this how we want our Lord God to welcome us back after we return to ask forgiveness for our sins andtransgressions? He does and He will each and everytime we seek his forgivess. But more importantly, He givesus eternal life in His heavenly kingdomOn our Lenten Journey this year, despite all the heartache, all the frustrations we experienced last year, let’s come together in prayer, with faith thanking Him for ALL that he has done for us and asking him toforgive us and make us once again be worthy of His love and His mercy he so freely gives to usIn Christ,Father Da.”.fin.fl.n5

Sunday of the Prodigal SonFebruary 28, 2021PRODIGAL SONWhen I foolishly separated myself from Your Fatherly glory, I squandered in wickedness the richesYou had given me. So now I cry out to You with the voice of the Prodigal Son, saying: “I have sinnedbefore You, O merciful Father, receive me, repentant, and make me as one of Your hired servants!”6
