7Dohuk Women’s Sport Club (DWC)Initiated in 2007 / 2019Text contributed by Robina Gorgis ShamoBefore starting, I would like to thank ChriskYounis and Nalla Super for believing in mycapabilities and trusting me within this. I ampleased and proud to be the head coach andanalyst of the team. I am looking forward tobeing the first and champion of the year. Theclub started in 2007, but unfortunately, it gotclosed for some reason. However, the doorsgot re-open by 2019 to the present day.As a Coach, Knowing to manage and work forprogress is a big expectation which I hope weas a club get to professionalism. While as ananalyst, I have been promoting the development of our favorite sport among clubs andindividuals. I provide a complete set of products to bring together videos, data, and information on each player, competition, or game. All in one place! The challenge is enormous! I know where weare right now, and I also know the expectations from the club, which is immense. However, I am very ready for this. We had challenges of players being in different cities (Duhok,Erbil, Kirkuk, and Sulimania), which was hardto gather and train initially. Nevertheless, weovercame it and are again training as a complete team due to the many challenges ofstudying, working, and distances. I hope forsuccess for our team.So far so, our team has been training for about3-4 months to be prepared for two championships starting by December 2021. We aimfor top first, of course! Because the playersare fully integrated into it. I hope we will bedifferent. We are excited to begin a differentbut fresh new fall season. However, I wouldbe remiss if I did not mention lessons learnedwhile operating through a pandemic. It hasbeen a challenge, but rest assured, DuhokWomen’s Club is in good hands under the capable leadership of our board and staff. Wehave looked within to retrace our history, adjust to an ever-changing demographic landscape, and are busy recalibrating our strategicplan with newly acquired lenses. One thing for sure, the Women’s Club has always been steadfast in its mission, and hereis an excellent description of what I think attracts many to our unique community. Whenyou have a clear purpose that people arealigned with, coupled with a culture of caring, individuals can experience a true senseof belonging and a connectedness betweenthe concept of purpose and care. Belongingemerges at this intersection. And It’s important to surround yourself with others whoshare a common purpose, care about yourself, those you serve, and those you work with. When connected with others in this way, youwill develop a sense of belonging that engages you to do more extraordinary things thanyou imagined.Courageous and Motivated Examples of Grassroots Collaboration S t re n g t h e n i n g Wom e n i n a n d t hr o ug h F oot b a l l i n I ra q & KR IBEST PRACTICES OF WOMEN’S FOOTBALL

Theorganizers organized a match between thewomen’s team and the men’s team (whowere family members and relatives of thewomen team) to encourage the families tosupport their daughters to play football, normalize female football, and show that thereis nothing to be ashamed of if your daughter wants to play football. It was a fun dayand the kids joined as well. The organizersgave their speech at the end of the match tospread awareness of women’s football andthat football is our peace message for everyone. Balls and stickers were given to theplayers and their families as gifts.
