Student Moodle Set-Up Guide For access to most online courses at Western Texas College, students will need an account in the eLearning platform, Moodle. Moodle works best in the Firefox browser (available free for Windows or Mac or Linux - download at www.firefox.com), however it will work with Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, or a multitude of other browsers. To use Moodle you will need to set up a student account. Use the following instructions to complete that process: Go to: http://ecampus.wtc.edu (notice - there is no “www’) The following screen displays. Click the Loigin link in the upper right corner. Notice: if you already have a Moodle account from a previous semester, you do not need to create a new account. You can use the same Moodle account for multiple semesters and multiple courses. Student Moodle Set-Up Guide The following screen displays. All fields in this screen are required. Key in the required information and click the “Create my new account” button. Note: There are no username restrictions. You may use any username you wish, but please use something you can remember. It is recommended that your WTC username be used. There are no password restrictions (no requirement for length or mixed characters with numbers). It is recommended that you use at least six characters, and use something you can remember. There is an email address requirement. You must use a WTC email address (joe.smith@student.wtc.edu). Your WTC email address is the only address used by WTC. Student Moodle Set-Up Guide To complete your account setup, go to the email inbox for your WTC email and look for a message similar to the one shown here. Click the link contained within the message to confirm your Moodle account. Note: Some email takes longer, so don’t panic if your confirmation doesn’t arrive at your inbox within three seconds. If you don’t receive your confirmation email, be sure to check your spam folder or junk mail folder. If you have protection settings on high, an unrecognized email address sometimes gets filtered out. If you need assistance, contact Roy Bartels at the email address provided in the message. Student Moodle Set-Up Guide Once your account has been confirmed, go back to the main Moodle screen at: http://ecampus.wtc.edu and click the login link in the upper right corner. Student Moodle Set-Up Guide After logging in for the first time, you will see a listing of course categories on the main page. Scroll down to find the category under which your course falls. Some categories also contain the names of specific instructors. Click on the category title or the instructor name to enter the listing of courses. Student Moodle Set-Up Guide In the listing of courses, locate the course in which you are enrolled. Course titles should be the same as what is listed on your course schedule. Watch to be sure you choose the course with the instructor listed on your schedule. Click on the course title to enter the course. Notice the little gold key symbols near the course title. Courses with the key symbol require an enrollment key to enter the course. Your instructor.and only your instructor.can provide that enrollment key. You should have sent your instructor an email immediately upon enrolling in the course to let him/her know you are taking an online course, and to provide your instructor with your WTC email address. Student Moodle Set-Up Guide Once in the course, you can usually find complete information about the course. This includes the course syllabus and other documents related to that particular course. Be aware that instructors are not required to maintain a specific look-and-feel for courses, so you may have a variety of setups (see examples below). Student Moodle Set-Up Guide Frequently Asked Questions 1. My login and/or password are not working. Login/password issues are common. If you have forgotten your password, contact the help desk to have it reset. Make sure you are on the correct website. Do not try to log in to “www.moodle.com” or “www.moodle.org”. Neither site is connected with Western Texas College. Always go to http://ecampus.wtc.edu or connect using the handy buttons on the WTC website On rare occasions the Moodle site may be down for maintenance. Always check the Moodle home screen for information. Notices are posted in red text on the right-hand side of the screen. 2. I can’t get into my course. If you are accessing your course for the first time, obtain the enrollment key from your instructor. If you have logged into the course previously, make sure you are clicking the correct link for the course. If your enrollment key is not working, make sure you are clicking the correct link for the course. There is a different enrollment key for every course, so if you are not in the right course the enrollment key will not work. 3. I can’t access my quiz (or assignment). Some instructors have firm due dates for coursework. Make sure you complete your work prior to the cutoff date. Some browsers may not properly display buttons, or may not allow the clock popup that is present with most Moodle quizzes. Try another browser, and make sure your browser is set to allow popups from ecampus.wtc.edu Make sure you are logged in. Your instructor is you very best resource for assistance.
