This heater needs fresh air ventilation torun properly. This heater has an OxygenDepletion Sensing (ODS) safety shutoffsystem. The ODS shuts down the heaterif not enough fresh air is available. SeeAir for Combustion and Ventilation, pages6 and 7. If heater keeps shutting off, seeTroubleshooting, page 20.4. Keep all air openings in front and bottomof heater clear and free of debris. This willensure enough air for proper combustion.5. If heater shuts off, do not relight until youhave provided fresh, outside air. If heaterkeeps shutting off, have it serviced.6. Do not run heater: Where flammable liquids or vapors areused or stored. Under dusty conditions.7. Before using furniture polish, wax, carpetcleaner, or similar products, turn heateroff. Check heater for any shipping damage. Ifheater is damaged, promptly inform dealerwhere you bought heater.WATER VAPOR: A BY-PRODUCT OFUNVENTED ROOM HEATERSWater vapor is a by-product of gas combustion. An unvented room heater produces approximately one (1) ounce (30 mL) of water forevery 1,000 BTUs (0.3 KWs) of gas input perhour. Unvented room heaters are recommendedas supplemental heat (a room) rather than aprimary heat source (an entire house). In mostsupplemental heat applications, the water vapordoes not create a problem. In most applications, the water vapor enhances the low humidityatmosphere experienced during cold weather. The following steps will help ensure that watervapor does not become a problem.1. Be sure the heater is sized properly for theapplication, including ample combustionair and circulation air.2. If high humidity is experienced, a dehumidifier may be used to help lower thewater vapor content of the air.3. Do not use an unvented room heater asthe primary heat source.AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATIONWARNING: This heater shallnot be installed in a confined spaceor unusually tight constructionunless provisions are providedfor adequate combustion andventilation air. Read the followinginstructions to insure proper freshair for this and other fuel-burningappliances in your home.6Today’s homes are built more energy efficientthan ever. New materials, increased insulationand new construction methods help reduceheat loss in homes. Home owners weatherstrip and caulk around windows and doorsto keep the cold air out and the warm air in.During heating months, home owners wanttheir homes as airtight as possible.www.usaprocom.com200233-01B

AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATIONWhile it is good to make your home energyefficient, your home needs to breathe. Freshair must enter your home. All fuel-burning appliances need fresh air for proper combustionand ventilation.Exhaust fans, fireplaces, clothes dryers andfuel burning appliances draw air from the houseto operate. You must provide adequate freshair for these appliances. This will insure properventing of vented fuel-burning appliances.WARNING: This heater shall notbe installed in a room or space unless the required volume of indoorcombustion air is provided by themethod described in the NationalFuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA54, the International Fuel GasCode, or applicable local codes.WARNING: If the area in whichthe heater may be operated doesnot meet the required volume forindoor combustion air, combustion and ventilation air shall beprovided by one of the methodsdescribed in the National FuelGas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54,the International Fuel Gas Code,or applicable local codes.VENTILATION AIRVentilation Air From Inside BuildingThis fresh air would come from an adjoiningunconfined space. When ventilating to anadjoining unconfined space, you must providetwo permanent openings: one within 12" of theceiling and one within 12" of the floor on thewall connecting the two spaces (see options1 and 2, Figure 2). You can also remove doorinto adjoining room (see option 3, Figure 2).Follow the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSIZ223.1/NFPA 54, Air for Combustion andVentilation for required size of ventilationgrills or ducts.12"VentilationGrillsinto AdjoiningRoom,Option 1Ventilation GrillsInto Adjoining Room,Option 2OrRemoveDoor intoAdjoiningRoom,Option 312"Figure 2 - Ventilation Air from InsideBuildingNote: Base not included. You must provide two permanent openings: one within 12" of the ceilingand one within 12" of the floor. Connect theseitems directly to the outdoors or spaces opento the outdoors. These spaces include atticsand crawl spaces. Follow the National FuelGas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54, Air forCombustion and Ventilation for required sizeof ventilation grills or ducts.IMPORTANT: Do not provide openingsfor inlet or outlet air into attic if attic has athermostat-controlled power vent. Heated airentering the attic will activate the power vent.Rework worksheet, adding the space of theadjoining unconfined space. These currentsmove heat to wall surfaces nextto heater. Installing heater nextto vinyl or cloth wall coverings oroperating heater where impurities(such as tobacco smoke, aromaticcandles, cleaning fluids, oil orkerosene lamps, etc.) in the airexist, may cause walls to discolor.IMPORTANT: Vent-free heaters add moisture tothe air. Although this is beneficial, installing heaterin rooms without enough ventilation air maycause mildew to form too much moisture. See Airfor Combustion and Ventilation, pages 6 and 7.CHECK GAS TYPEBe sure your gas supply is right for your heater. Otherwise, call dealer where you boughtthe heater for proper type heater.GAS SELECTIONThis appliance is factorypreset for propane/LP gas.No changes are required forconnecting to propane/LP.Only a qualified installer or servicetechnician can perform gas selection and connecting to gas supply.CAUTION: Two gas line installations at the same time areprohibited.CAUTION: To avoid gas leakage for the gas not being used atthe inlet of regulator, a qualifiedinstaller or service technicianmust use supplied cap.www.usaprocom.com200233-01B
