Serious injury or death can result if you do not follow these instructions and procedures whichare outlined further within your owner’s manual. Many newer trucks are equipped with air bags. DO NOT under any circumstancesdisable or remove or relocate any sensors or other components related to the operationof the air bags. Overloading could result in an accident or damage. Never exceed the vehicle’s GrossVehicle Weight Rating or the Front or Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratings. TGS 800 Spreaders with Slide-In or RT3 Attachments MUST ONLY be used with aminimum Class IV Receiver Hitch. DO NOT exceed the Vehicle Hitch Rating. This spreader is restricted to the use of sand, salt or salt/sand mix only. Never run othermaterials through the spreader. Maximum weight of material that can be loaded into the TGS 800 spreader is 800pounds. Never exceed this weight. DO NOT attempt to mount or remove the spreader with material in it. Turn spreader off before filling, mounting, removing, servicing, or cleaning. DO NOT operate spreader within 25 feet of bystanders. DO NOT climb into or ride on spreader. Keep hands, feet, and clothing away from moving parts and mounting points. Spreader must be mounted to vehicle when loading material. The Slide-In Attachment must be fully engaged and pinned into the vehicle 2” ReceiverHitch.3

Slide-In & RT3 Attachment Wiring Installation ProcedureSlide-In & RT3 AttachmentWiring InstallationProcedure2. Route the harness along the driver sideframe rail and into the enginecompartment. Keep harness away fromhot or moving parts. Secure using CableTies (MSC04088).3. Feed the 4-pin connector (MaleConnector #2) and the 2-pin connector(Universal Connector # 1) through thefirewall, into the cab, and to a locationnear the desired spreader controllocation.Before starting any Electrical Wiring Proceduremake sure that the engine is not running andthat the engine has had sufficient time to cooldown. Failure to do so may result in seriousbodily injury or death.4. Secure using Cable Ties (MSC04088).Before starting any Electrical Wiring Proceduremake sure to disconnect the battery. Failure todo so may result in serious bodily injury ordeath.5. Connect the ring connector on theBLACK WIRE to the NEGATIVE batteryterminal.Note: This Wiring Installation Procedure isintended for use with the Slide-InAttachment kit (TGS16178) and the RT3Attachment kit (TGS16179) for TGS 800spreader.6. Connect the ring connector on the REDWIRE to the POSITIVE battery terminal.1. Refer to Figure 2 for vehicle sideharness diagram. Begin at the rear ofthe vehicle. Secure the sealed connector(Connector # 3), male connector(Connector #4), molded dust cap (6),and female dust cap (7) near the centerof the rear bumper using Cable Ties(MSC04088), refer to figure 1.8. Secureusing one ½” X 1-½” Hex Head Bolt (9),one ½” Nylon Lock Nut (11), and one ½”Fender Washer (12). Repeat onopposite side of spreader.In order to prevent injury or damage to theproduct, the spreader must be completely emptywhen attaching or detaching it from the vehicle1. The In-Cab Controller must be turnedOFF before proceeding. Back the truckinto position.Note: The previous two steps are onlyrequired for new installations. StabilizerArms and Ratchet Straps will remain boltedto the spreader.2. Insert the spreader’s Standard Hitch intothe 2” Receiver Hitch on the vehicle andline up the second hole.6. Tighten both Driver Side and PassengerSide Stabilizer Arms by rotating pad untiltight. Tighten the Jam Nut to secure.“NOTICE”Always check clearance between vehicle bumperand spreader when attached. If spreadercontacts bumper, use first attachment hole tomove spreader away from vehicle.7. Slide the hook end of Ratchet Strap (5)between the bumper and tailgate of thetruck. Ratchet Strap Hooks and Bucklemust be in line with direction of pull.Secure to a solid point on the truckframe rail (this may require drilling a holefor attachment on the truck frame).Repeat for second Ratchet Strap (5).3. Insert RT3 Attachment Hook into 2”Receiver Hitch. Refer to Figure 8.2. Swing Away ProcedureSpinner AssemblySwing Away Procedure4. The spreader contents may now beemptied and saved for future use.In order to prevent injury or damage to theproduct, ensure that the control is in the OFFposition.Keep hands, feet, and clothing away fromattachment points.In order to prevent injury or damage to theproduct, disconnect the spinner motor powerplug from the spreader side harness prior toswinging out the spinner unit.1. The In-Cab Controller must be turnedOFF before proceeding. Disconnect thepower supply to the Spinner Assembly.2. Pull the spring pin outward and lock inthe OUT position in the keeper slot,Figure 15. Swing Away ProcedureIn order to prevent accidental start-up the in-CabController must always be turned off, and powersupply to the spinner assembly must bedisconnected.G106055. To resume normal operation return theSpinner Assembly to the home position,refer to Figure 15.refer to Figure 14.6. Release the spring pin from the outposition.7. Material Loading ProcedureMaterial LoadingProcedureThis spreader is restricted to the use of drysand, salt or salt/sand mix only. Never run othermaterials through the spreaderThe spreader must be mounted to the vehiclebefore loading. Never attempt to mount aspreader with material in the hopper.1. If using bagged material, place bag ontoTop Screen Bag Splitter. Work bag backand forth on teeth of splitter until the baghas split open. Continue to manipulateand shake bag until empty.2. Always load material with the TopScreen installed. This will prevent large,rocks or other materials from becominglodged in the Feed Paddle or ejectedfrom the spinner.Failure to use top screen may result in personalinjury or property damage.Figure 16.G1060619

Mount In-Cab Controller (TGS15546) toan easily accessible position in the cab.Begin by removing the pre-assembledbracket from the controller.3. Mount the bracket using two suppliedSheet Metal Screws (HDW05953).4. Re-assemble the controller into themounting bracket with the suppliedhardware.2. The controller can be mounted eitherabove or below the mounting bracket,refer to Figure 17. Choose the bestposition that will not interfere withoperation of the vehicle or visibility. In-Cab Controller OperationStarting and Stopping the Motor:In-Cab ControllerOperationFunctions (refer to Figure 18):Keep hands, feet, and clothing away fromattachment points.ON/OFF button: Turns the controller onand off.BLAST button: Sends full power to bothmotors while it is pressed.Bystanders to stay a minimum of 25 feet awayfrom operating spreader.Speed Dial 1: Increases the paddle motorspeed when turned clockwise anddecreases the speed when turnedcounterclockwise.1. Flip the ON/OFF Switch to the ONposition.Speed Dial 2: Increases the spinner motorspeed when turned clockwise anddecreases the speed when turnedcounterclockwise.2. Use Speed Dial 1 to adjust the speed ofthe paddle motor. This will dictate howquickly the material is pulled from thehopper.Indicator Lights (refer to Figure 18):3. Use Speed Dial 2 to adjust the speed ofthe spinner motor. This will dictate howfar material is thrown.Power LED: The controller is on.Yellow LED: The “BLAST” button is beingactivated.4. Use the Blast Feature to momentarilyincrease the speed of both motors. Themotors will remain at full speed until theBlast Button is released.Red LED: The Spreader is clogged and thecontroller is shut down.5. When finished using the spreader,always turn the controller ON/OFFSwitch to the OFF position.Freeing a clog:1. When the paddle motor is NOT turning,a rock or other debris may be wedged inthe paddle wheel.2. You can use the Blast Feature to free aclog by repeatedly pressing the BlastButton and quickly releasing it.Figure 18.G1060821

Deflector and Vibration Adjustment3. To decrease the vibration of TailgateSpreader TGS800, Vibration Tray (19)(part A Figure 20), or Back Flap (25)(part D Figure 20) can be adjusted up inthe slotted holes.In order to prevent accidental start-up the in-CabController must be turned off and power supplyto spinner and paddle assemblies must bedisconnected prior to any spreader adjustments.Rubber Flap AdjustmentsDeflector Adjustment1.
