Unfortunately, this meant a clash with a fewother events, so numbers were down on previous years.Nevertheless, boy captains Josh Edgar and Charlie O’Shealed out a small but enthusiastic contingent in a figure ofeight across the school oval, while EAL/D students andteachers showered them with a rainbow of colours. Thecolour run is a Hindu tradition dating back thousands ofyears, traditionally held during the Holi Festival, whichhappens at the beginning of the Northern HemisphereSpring. It celebrates the triumph of 'good' over 'bad'. Theaims of this colourful festival are to bridge the social gapand renew positive relationships, which tie in well with thethemes of Harmony Day and Bridging the Gap Day. Thecolours symbolise the diversity of our student populationhere at Albury High School.Close the Gap Day was celebrated on the same day asHarmony Day at Albury High School. We started off by attending the school assembly and hadour invited Wiradjuri elder, Aunty Nancy Rooke, do theWelcome to Country. She also presented three of ourstudent with some new flags for the school, (theAboriginal flag, the Torres Strait Islander flag and theAustralian flag). These flags were a gift from SussanLey‘s office. The school captains did the ‘Acknowledgement toCountry’ and spoke about Harmony Day.We also had some special invited guests from theRichmond Football Club who spoke about the REALProgram (Richmond Emerging Aboriginal Leadership),and they later did two presentations to year 10 Historyclasses on ‘What is Diversity’.Strong messages they were trying to get across were torespect each other, that it is OK to be different, to listen, and that we are a diverse country and community.Mrs Valda MurrayAboriginal LearningSupport OfficerMs Anna KayeEAL/D Teacher1

By introducingstudents to activities that elevate the heart rate and areenjoyable, they have a greater chance of becomingmore active and healthy.Fortunately, at AHS we have access to state of the artfacilities, such as our own Fitness Lab, and we are inwalking distance of local venues. Access to theseresources allowed both PASS classes to engage inactivities such as: boxing classes, circuit training, theuse of Anchors and sprint training up Nail Can Hill.To end the term off on a high, each class participated in abike ride from AHS, aroundthe Lincoln Causeway andback to AHS. Most of thestudents rode their push bikesto school the morning of the excursion. Thank you toMrs Hendriks, Ms Wall and Mr Schupina for lendingtheir push bikes to students who were unable to bringone to school.Riding around the Murray River was an excellent wayto top off the hard work exhibited this term.
