RL20H Handle Extension KitINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSKIT CONTENTSExtension brackets (2)Mounting bolts (4)Washers & nuts (4 each)Clutch cable (1)Throttle cable (1)Roller lift chain (40 links)RECOMMENDED HAND TOOLS1/2” combination wrench (2)Medium adjustable wrench7/16” & 1/2" sockets3/8” Ratchet & short extensionFlat head screwdriverPhillips head screwdriverChannel lock style pliersRECOMMENDED UNIT PREPARATION & POSITIONINGNOTE: The steps of removing / installingthe clutch cable includes the end thatconnects to the idler arm. Access to thislocation is on the underside of the frame,so it is recommended that the unit betipped forward and secured in place.A common jack stand(10-11” minimumheight / available atauto parts stores,Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc.) is an effective way to liftand hold the unit in place. While blocking the front caster, use the handles to lift/tip the unit forward and slide the jackstand under the drive roller sufficiently, then lower the unitdown on to it (the roller will move upward and press against the frame).CAUTION: FUEL MAY LEAK IF TIPPED TOO FAR WHEN THE TANK ISCOMPLETELY FULL.

RL20H Handle Extension KitINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSDISASSEMBLYStep 1 – Remove Drive Roller Lift ChainDisconnect each end of the chain by removingmaster links at the handle and roller frame. Tip:Use a rag to hold chain and surround the area tocatch clip.Step 2 – Remove Throttle Lever & WireRemove the lever from upper handle.Step 3 – Remove Clutch Cable – Handle SideRemove the bolt, nut and spacers from thelever, then loosen the cable adjustment nuts soit can be removed from the bracketStep 4 – Remove Clutch Cable – Frame SideWith the unit tipped forward and secured inplace (as described on Page 1), access theconnection bolt & nut and use 2 x 1/2"wrenches to loosen. NOTE: The return spring isalso held in place at this connection.Remove air filter cover to access mountingclamp, loosen the screw far enough to removeouter wire, then remove inner wire fromthrottle arm. NOTE: The end is a “Z” shapeAfter the end isdisconnected,un-screw theinner nutentirely toremove theentire cablefrom the frame.

RL20H Handle Extension KitINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSDISASSEMBLY (CONTINUED)ASSEMBLYSTEP 5 – Install (New) Clutch Cable – Frame SideIt’s best to immediately install the new cablehere at this time, so insert the cable back into theframe in the same position (equal threads onboth sides), then place the cable end in positionand insert the bolt (with the spring stillconnected) through the idler arm and install thenut. NOTE: do not tighten the bolt/nutcompletely as the end needs to move freely onthe idler arm.Step 1 – Install Handle Extension BracketsInstall the brackets in the same position as thehandle just removed, using the same bolts, washers and nuts on the LH side, the newsupplied ones on the RH side. Tighten securely onboth sides.Step 2 – Install HandleInstall the handle onto the extension bracketsusing the new bolts, washers and nuts provided inthe kit. Tighten securely on both sides.Step 6 – Remove Lower Handle From FrameRemove 2 x hex head bolts, nuts & washers fromthe left side. Remove the hex head bolt, Phillipshead bolt and nuts from the right side.Note: there are no washers on this side.

TIP: Hold / pullthe chain to keep tight, then place your thumbagainst the flat edge of screwdriver to push clipinto place.Step 5 – Install (New) Clutch Cable – Handle SideWith the top nut offand the bottom nutat the lower portionof the threads, insertthe cable throughhandle bracket slot, followed by theadjustment section.Install the top nutand move it againstthe bracket. NOTE:further movement ofthe nut (lower) maybe needed to provideadequate reach toconnect the end to the lever.Step 6 – Install (New) Clutch Cable – Hand LeverInsert the bolt through the front of the lever, addthe first spacer, the cableend, the second spacerthen the back side of thelever as shown in thepicture.NOTE: do not overtighten the bolt/nut asthe end needs to movefreely.Step 7 – Adjust Clutch EngagementRemove the clutch cover (7/16” hex head sizebolt on each side) to view the clutchcomponents.Step 4 – Install (New) Throttle WireInsert the “Z” end of the inner wire into thethrottle arm on the carburetor, then place theouter cover under the clamp – do not tightencompletely. Route the wire underneath the crossbar back and up to the lever mounting point ofthe upper handle and install. Move the lever tothe slow position (turtle icon), then push the wireat the carburetor until the throttle arm is in thecorresponding slow position. Tighten clamp.

RL20H Handle Extension KitINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSStep 7 – Adjust Clutch Engagement (Continued)The goal of adjusting is to ensure the hand leverproperly engages anddisengages the drivesystem. Usually thiscan be done using theadjustment at thehandle where movingit downward (in thebracket) will move theidler arm forward. At this point, there should be visible clearancebetween the belt, the belt guide (front) and beltguard (back). The objective of the disengaged position is toensure the belt is not engaged with the drivepulley. Below is a photo of a typical disengagedposition, where the idler arm is slightly forward, while the belt guide and belt guard are contactingthe belt to help push it out of the pulley groove. The idler position can be changed by adjusting theclutch cable. Use the lock nuts to move the outercable in the bracket (which will move the idlerposition) downward moves the idler forward toincrease the belt tension / upward moves theidler backwards to decrease the belt tension.Squeeze the engagement lever to check the idlermovement and belt engagement / tension. Theoptimum function is to have the lever close totouching the handle while the idler is engagingand tightening the belt, creating sufficienttension. To check the clutch action, verify that the driveroller lift lever is in the up and disengagedposition, then start the engine. IF THE BLADE /REAR DRIVE ROLLER ARE TURNINGCONTINUEOUSLY WITHOUT ENGAGING(SQUEEZING) THE CLUTCH LEVER, STOP THEENGINE AND READJUST. Oncethe clutch actionis properlyadjusted, installthe clutch coverand tightensecurely.
