Futura 4 - Editing Option - English 3-01add-onThe ‘Embroidery settings’ is the basic dialogue from within thesoftware related to editing the embroidery settings of any block, itcan be considered as the ‘embroidery core’ of the software. This window allows editing and alteration of all embroidery attributesof one (or more than one) embroidery blocks, settings that can bechanged include :Density - to change the density of a blockStitch angle (for complex fill blocks) – to give in specific angle for acomplex fill blockUnderlay – to add Underlay to a block. There are various types of underlay : Central underlay – adds a central running stitch to the block(only available for column blocks) Edgewalk underlay – adds a perimetric underlay to the block Fill underlay – ads a ‘zig-zag’ fill underlay to the blockRunning/Satin outline – to add automatic outline, either runningstitch or satin around one block. There is also the option to assign a different ‘Outline color’ to theautomatic outline.Short stitches – for column blocks, to insert short stitches indifficult (usually curve) areas where many stitches gather togetheron a close spot, and this way ‘lighten up’ the specific areas andachieve a better result.Stretch – to stretch the stitches of block further outside theiroriginal outline, to compensate for any push/pull effect of thefabric that it will be embroidered on.Editing:Inside Editing7EditingInside Embroidery settings

The standard way of editing the‘Embroidery settings’ is by selectingeach desired block and editing it’ssettings, then click on ‘Apply’ to havethe changes take effect. In case a stitch format design isopened (like .dst, which containsno ‘block outline’ information) andparts of it selected, the Embroiderysettings window will display moregeneric information on the design orparts of the design selected, such as :Dimensions , number of stitches andlist of colors.8Editing:Inside EditingYou can have the ‘Embroidery settingswindow open at all time while workingor you can set it to ‘roll up’ each timethe mouse is being moved away from it.Choose the way which comforts you whileworking. As described, the ‘Embroidery settings’window can only display the aboveinformation when block(s) of the designthat contain outline information areselected – that is blocks that originatedfrom the automated wizards (likeAutoPunch and HyperFont) or as a resultof a ‘Stitch to Block’ conversion.Futura 4 - Editing Option - Englishadd-onEditingThe same window also allows for call and use of the ‘Preset fabrics’which automatically apply a set of fabric specific values to the variousembroidery settings, while even these proposed values can then befurther edited.

Futura 4 - Editing Option - English 3-01add-onPreset Fabric are the factory preset Embroidery Settings for particular types of fabrics or apparel. There are two ways in which usePreset Fabric – before digitizing a segment and after digitizinga segment, in Editing Mode. How to use Edit Preset FabricPreset Frabric settings can also be usedto apply to the whole of the design. From the menu item ‘Design’ choose theoption ‘Apply fabric’.Step Action 1 Select Editing 2Click on the block to bechanged. 3Right-click and choose Embroidery Settings from thepop-up menu.Select Preset Fabric tab. 4 5 6 7If the values of Preset Fabric are not giving the desired results, choose “Manual Settings” (though EditingMode)and adjust as required.icon.Select Garment (of yourchoice) from left-handcolumn.Select Type from the righthand column.Click Ok.ResultThe Editing toolbar willopen. The block will be highlightedwith original input information.A Select Fabric dialogue boxwill open. The Embroidery Settings boxwill open with current fabricvalues. These settings are only suggestions. Motif can be found: Freeform& Shapes/ Normal Fill & Running Stitch.

Futura 4 - Editing Option - English 3-01add-onThe software automatically generates the following sequence ofembroidery on the outline of the area digitized :1. a running stitch to ‘indicate’ the area where the fabric should bepositioned,2. a jump stitch to move the embroidery frame out, allowing you toeasily place the appliqué fabric to the position indicated. This willonly apply if 'Frame out' setting is checked.3. the 'First Hold down line' which is the running stitch to tie theappliqué fabric to the garment fabric,You can choose to turn on/off first orsecond hold down line, even the overlockstitches - thus achieving different stylelook on your Appliqué block.4. the 'Second Hold down line' which in this case is an E-stitch tostronger tie the appliqué fabric to the garment fabric,4. the 'Overlock stitches' which is the satin outline that gives the finaltouch and look of the appliqué part.Attention!Make sure to always click on ‘Apply’ aftermaking a change in the EmbroiderySettings, for the new values to apply tothe block.Editing:Inside Editing15EditingAppliqué appears identical to ColumnSatin with simulated fabric.Appliqué Stitch TypeAppliqué is a special stitch type allowing creation of appliquéembroidery which is the term for a fabric piece on top of the garmentfabric fastened with embroidery stitches on the outline of it.

‘Draw Appliqué’ option in System Parameters when checked displays a colorswatch on the area where the Appliquéfabric will be placed.Appliqué applied tolettering text.Appliqué also applies for text in Lettering. Please note however than after letteringis switched to Appliqué it can not beswitched back to Column (which is thestandard for Lettering). You would have to redo that Lettering partfor Column, something that anyway isvery easy in Software.16Editing:Inside EditingFutura 4 - Editing Option - Englishadd-onEditingColor swatch on the areawhere the Appliqué fabricwill be placed.

Futura 4 - Editing Option - English 3-01add-onStitch EditWith the Stitch Edit feature, individual stitches can be moved, deleted and inserted, and blocks can be divided using “Split Block”.If working with a Block file(that was digitized with FUTURA),all Stitch Edit changes will be lostif Block Editing is done afterwards. To prevent this, do all stitch editing last! The Stitch Edit function can be used with “block format”- the native language of your software, or “machine stitch format” - stockdesigns that were not digitized using the Software. To edit individual stitches:Step Action 1 Select Editing/Stitch Editicon. 2 Click and drag any stitch toMOVE to a new position. 3 Right-Click to “locate” ondesired stitch. The ‘Stitches to Blocks’ function allows for transformation of adesign in stitch format (only stitch information) into block outlineinformation, thus allowing for advanced outline editing. What the software does is by looking at the stitches of a design (andits color parts) to try to assume how these parts where built and, based on this information, to rebuild the blocks.During this process it is expected for the software not to be able torebuild it exactly as it had been originally digitized.Nevertheless, this feature provides the powerful capability of takinga design that due to its format (for example .dst) allows for onlylimited editing capabilities and convert it into a format that providesunlimited capabilities to edit outlines, stitch direction, stitch typesetc. and take advantage of the power provided through the featuresoffered in the FUTURA Editing module.Inside OptimizeThe ‘Optimize’ option allows ‘cleaning’ of unnecessary very smallstitches and also jump stitches that might be likely to cause threadbreakage. The FUTURA editing module provides the option through thisfeature to specifically set the value of length of stitches that shouldbe eliminated.18Editing:Inside EditingMake sure to save any design that hasbeen converted with ‘Stitches to blocks’to the FUTURA native file format (.fhe), inorder to maintain full editing capabilitiesanytime opening the design.Futura 4 - Editing Option - Englishadd-onEditingInside Stitches to Blocks
