Standard Heat Exchangers Deliver Cost EffectivePerformanceAPI Heat Transfer’s Basco Type 500 Shell & Tube Heat Exchangeroffers the cost effectiveness and proven performance that comeswith having a standard design, while easily allowing for a wide varietyof options to meet specificcustomer requirements.Quality, Value andPerformance. An API HeatTransfer TraditionSince 1953, originalequipment manufacturersand aftermarket providershave looked to API HeatTransfer for a wide varietyof heat transfer products. The Basco Type 500remains the industrystandard in ultimate valueand long term reliability. This line of pre-engineeredcompact heat exchangers isavailable in fixed tubesheet andremovable bundle designs, thelatter with either straight tubeor U-tube arrangements. Flowconfigurations can be one, two,or four pass. Units are availableas Commercial Standard, ASME,or ASME/TEMA-C.The Basco Type 500 is intendedto provide maximum serviceperformance at minimum costand lead-time.Quality and ReliabilityReliability comes from using high quality materials in a well-conceiveddesign that is properly applied by knowledgeable engineers andmanufactured by skilled personnel. API Heat Transfer utilizes modern, high precision machining centers to convert raw materials intohigh value component parts. Then experienced skilled welders andassemblers transform these components into superior quality finishedheat exchangers.Over the decades, the Basco Type 500 has proven its ruggedness andreliability in tens of thousands of applications worldwide.Rugged and versatile enough to meet your mostdemanding needs.Basco Type 500 Heat Exchangers are used in these and otherapplications: Compressor Systems Hydraulic Systems Stationary Engines Marine Applications Turbines Paint Systems Air Dryers Vapor Recovery Systems Sterilizing Systems Lube Oil Consoles–2–

Manufacturing at a GlanceOur Basco Type 500 is manufactured in two facilities– Buffalo, NY and Suzhou, China – to support ourcustomers on a global basis. Each facility has ISO9001 certification assuring world-class manufacturingmethods and full accountability.Robotic CNC MachiningCenter assures precisiondrilled tubesheets, twenty-fourhours a day.Use of rolled coil tubingsupports the flexibility inherentin DFT manufacturing. Specialstraightening equipmentand unique burr-free cuttingprocess result in superiorrolled joints.MOUNTING BRACKETSHeavy stamped steel brackets are standard and can be rotatedand reversed for a variety of mounting needs. Installations otherthan horizontal with the brackets underneath should be checkedfor weight. Cradle mounting is available on all models.SHELLSRugged shell available in Steel andStainless Steel. Minimum clearancesbetween shell and baffles reduce by-passand maximize heat transfer.TUBESTubes are available in Copper, 90/10 CuNi,Stainless Steel, Admiralty or Titanium.Tubes are roller expanded. Seal weldingand grooving available in some cases.BAFFLESPrecision punched baffles assure effectivecirculation by providing minimum clearancesbetween the tubes and tube holes. Bafflecuts and spacing for each diameter areconsistent with best practices.–3–END BONNETSEnd Bonnets are of high quality cast Iron,Bronze or Stainless Steel in 1, 2 or 4-passconfigurations. Fabricated heads areavailable and are standard on TEMA-Cmodels. Zinc anodes to neutralize theeffects of galvanic action can be furnishedon special order.TUBESHEETSThick Carbon Steel, StainlessSteel or 90/10 CuNi tubesheetsare welded to the shell. Holes areprecision drilled for proper fit.

Selection SizingCorrrection for LMTD when UsingMulti-Pass Heat Exchangers.Multi-pass heat exchangers cannot take full advantageof counter-current flow, which changes the LMTD forthe application. To correct the LMTD, multiply the value obtained fromthe above graph by the correction factor obtained fromthis correction graph. If the P and R values intersectoutside the graph, consult the factory to discuss yourspecific application.T1 . Hot Fluid Inlet Temp, FT2 . Hot Fluid Outlet Temp, Ft1 . Cold Fluid Inlet Temp, Ft2 . Standard Heat Exchanger Designs Deliver Cost Effective Performance First introduced in 1962, the Basco OP design has proven to be the preferred TEMA Type AEW shell & tube heat exchanger in the market. The OP, or "O" Ring Protected design, is available in single or two pass. The Basco design features removable tube bundle, nozzle

of Basco shell and tube heat exchangers. It is important that the heat exchanger is easily accessible for inspection, maintenance, and cleaning. Straight Tube . heat exchangers (removable bundles) allow for . sufficient clearance at the stationary head end for removal of the bundle from the shell and provide adequate space beyond the
