WELCOME ADDRESSDear colleagues,We are delighted to welcome you to the FEBS3 LS2 Annual Meeting2020 at the Irchel Campus of the University of Zurich. The Life Sciences Switzerland (LS2) Annual Meeting brings togetherscientists from different countries and scientific backgrounds toexplore diverse topics under the umbrella of the life sciences. For thefirst time this year, the LS2 Annual meeting is being held as a jointFEBS3 meeting together with the German Society for Biochemistryand Molecular Biology (GBM) & Austrian Association of Molecular LifeSciences and Biotechnology (ÖGMBT).The theme of this year’s meeting is “Cells, Molecules and Organisms”with plenary talks from the earliest stages of development to tissuerepair and cellular plasticity. Discover the latest, most excitingfindings in the field, from Molecular and Cellular Biosciences,Proteomics, Physiology, Pharmacology, Biophysics, Microbiology,Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, Microscopy and more, presented byaround 30 invited speakers and over 50 speakers selected fromabstracts in eleven scientific symposia and five plenary lectures. To promote young scientists, the popular "PIs of Tomorrow" session,in which selected postdocs will present their research to a jury ofprofessors, will again be held as a plenary session. This year, flashtalks of selected posters will also be presented in the plenary sessionsas well as in symposia. Join us for the poster session with over 130posters and a new poster quiz, combined with a large industryexhibition and Apéro. For the 2020 edition, five poster prizes will beawarded! For the first time this year, we will also hold a Young Scientists’Satellite Meeting the day before the Annual Meeting, with a keynotelecture and scientific symposia of selected short talks, followed by acareer symposium and Meet and Greet Apéro with the LS2 delegatesand Annual Meeting speakers. A Public Science Policy Panel on“Vaccination in Disease Prevention” will cap the day. Invitedinternational experts will introduce this timely topic with shortlectures on different aspects of vaccination, followed by an opendiscussion with the public.3

As every year, we are also very much looking forward to the laureatetalks of the winners of the Friedrich-Miescher-Award and the LelioOrci Award. We are extremely grateful to all of our sponsors and exhibitors of the2020 edition (see page 6-7), who contributed to make this big eventpossible. Please visit their booths to learn about the latest tools andproducts, with a chance to win prizes in the Exhibition lottery. We look forward to an exciting and stimulating scientific meeting, which provides the opportunity to expand your network of colleaguesand friends and foster new collaborations, and wish you all anenjoyable and successful time.SincerelyFiona DoetschBiozentrum, University of BaselChair of the FEBS3 LS2 Annual Meeting 20204
