Biographical NotesPeter Blanc, Cert CIICII President nominateAfter starting his career in motor underwriting, Peter switched to broking, andeventually led a management buy-out of the UK commercial division of Farr in2000 which he then named FMW Risk Services Ltd. He grew this business toapproximately 25m gross written premium before selling the business inDecember 2007 to Oval. In 2012 Peter was appointed Chief Executive of Oval andhe ran the business through until its eventual sale to Arthur J. Gallagher whichcompleted in April 2014.In May 2015 Peter concluded a management buy-in of Aston Scott and then ledthe merger with Lark Group in 2017. As Group CEO of Aston Lark he now leads abusiness with over 900 staff across 30 locations in the UK and Ireland that writesnearly 400m of gross written premium. Aston Lark is backed by the merchantbanking division of Goldman Sachs alongside Bowmark Capital LLP.Peter is also non-executive chairman at Hastings Insurance Services Ltd, the brokerarm of Hastings Direct, and up until recently served as chairman of the LargeBrokers’ Advisory Board at the British Insurance Brokers Insurance Association(BIBA).Peter has just concluded a 9-year term as a trustee of the Essex CommunityFoundation which is an independent charitable trust improving the quality of life ofpeople in Essex by investing and distributing funds on behalf of a wide range ofdonors. Essex Community Foundation looks after over 40m worth of endowedfunds and awards thousands of grants each year to a variety of voluntaryorganisations and projects.2

Biographical NotesDavid Ross, ACII, Chartered Insurance PractitionerVice President for Local InstitutesDavid is a time-served insurance professional having worked in the generalinsurance sector for nearly 40 years. An experienced executive and non-executivedirector, David has worked for both large corporates and small / medium sizedenterprises. He also set up his own niche insurance and service business which hesold in 2018.David now works with the boards and executive teams of regulated businesshelping them to develop and grow. He has served the CII and in particular his localinstitute throughout his career which has seen him fulfil most roles includingPresident, Dinner Secretary and Education Secretary. David has also served on themain board of the CII between 2016 and 2019 and in 2017 received the CII'sDistinguished Service Award.".3

He has 28 years of work experience, 22 of which has been atsenior management, executive and board of directors’ level in insurance, riskmanagement, and consulting services. Biographical NotesDr Helen Phillips, PhD, FRSBIndependent ChairDr Helen Phillips is an experienced executive and non-executive, with a careerspanning the public, private and not for profit sectors.Since stepping down from executive roles in 2014, Helen has taken up a number ofnon-executive appointments. In 2015 she was appointed as a lay member of theLegal Services Board (LSB), the oversight regulator for the legal services sector.She was appointed independent Chair of the LSB in 2017, and will serve a term to2023.In 2015 Helen was appointed Chair of Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS FoundationTrust and in 2018 as a founding Non-Executive Director of Social Work England.Helen’s has also held non-executive director roles in Higher Education and theschools sector.Previously Helen was Board Director of Yorkshire Water with responsibility forcustomer services and networks, and Chair of Loop Customer Management Ltd, aKelda Group subsidiary. Prior to that, her career as a regulator was as foundingChief Executive and Board member of Natural England, and before that asDirector, Wales of the Environment Agency.Helen has a BSc in Zoology and a PhD in Environmental Science from UniversityCollege Dublin. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.5

Prior to this she was the head of theLondon office and the head of the Lloyd’s and London market sector for BLM. Shehas over 20 years legal experience in UK and international complex casualtydisputes, defence litigation, policy advice and advisory support arising out of abroad range of circumstances, industry sectors, policyholders and risk carriers.As well as overseeing the service delivery to many major insurers and corporatesduring her career, Jennette has specialised in dealing with complex and multipartyand international casualty claims for insurers, reinsurers and risk carriers togetherwith health and safety regulatory investigations.Jennette is listed in Legal 500 and Chambers directories, with clients noting she"Goes above and beyond to deal with her client's issues in accordance with theirwishes" (Chambers 2017).6

Biographical NotesDebbie Mitchell, DipPFSEngagement Board MemberDebbie Mitchell is managing director of Aberdeen based financial planning firm,Atholl Scott Financial Services, where she has been at the helm for over 20 years.Before joining the firm, Debbie worked with Bowring Financial Services, part of theMarsh group, and had an excellent technical grounding during five years withScottish Amicable.Debbie has been involved with the Insurance Institute of Aberdeen since 2008 andserved as its first female President from 2011 to 2013. She is a past Chair of theNorth Scotland Region Personal Finance Society and in 2016 was elected to the CIIRepresentative Council and now serves on the Local Institute National Forum.7

(C.Hons), CeFA, CertPFSEngagement Board MemberMs. Pauline Azzopardi has enjoyed a career of over 30 years, working in seniorroles with some of the world’s largest international banking and insuranceinstitutions, including Munich Re, HSBC, Middle Sea Insurance (currently Mapfre).Pauline Azzopardi has been newly appointed by the Board of Supervisors of theEuropean Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) to theInsurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group (IRSG) and Occupational PensionsStakeholder Group (OPSG).Pauline Azzopardi is currently President of the Association for Consumer RightsMalta (ACR) and was Malta Representative on the European ConsumerConsultative Group (ECCG) for the last 6 years. She also served as President of theHSBC Bank Malta “Banking on Women Foundation” which promoted theprofessional advancement of women and was Vice President of the NationalCouncil of Women (Malta). She participated in initiatives organized by AgePlatform Europe and was a member of Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee.Pauline is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and holds a Bachelor ofScience degree in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Malta.
