INDOOR AIR QUALITY FUNCTIONSHUMIDITY CONTROLThis thermostat can control the relativehumidity (RH) in your home when youhave an additional humidifier and/ordehumidifier installed. Dehumidificationcan be achieved one of two ways, eitherwith a whole-home dehumidifier or withyour air conditioning equipment. See page25 for details. If a humidifier is installed,it can be controlled in one of two modes,Automatic or Manual. These settings areconfigured by your installer.1Automatic ModeIn automatic mode, you will receive anoptimal amount of humidity so that yourhome and its furnishings are protectedfrom the damaging effects of excessivelyhigh or low humidity during the heatingseason. The thermostat automaticallyadjusts your home’s RH based on theoutdoor temperature. This temperature ismeasured by a sensor attached outsideyour home. The humidity setting needs to be setinitially to meet your home's conditions. Please follow these steps when adjustingyour control.1.2Touch Humidity Control to open theHumidity Control Select screen.2. Touch Humidifier to open theHumidifier Control screen.3. The normal humidity range is 3-5. Usesetting 3 initially.During the next 24-48 hours, it may benecessary to adjust the setting for more orless humidity, depending on your personalcomfort and home’s requirements.During the coldest portion of your firstheating season, minor adjustmentsmay be necessary to prevent windowcondensation. This will depend on yourhome’s construction.3The relative humidity in your home willthen be accurately controlled to meetyour needs and should not need furtheradjustment during future heating seasons.24

INDOOR AIR QUALITY FUNCTIONSHUMIDITY CONTROL (continued)Manual ModeIn manual mode, it is important to anticipatea drop in outdoor temperature and to reducethe setting accordingly to avoid excessivecondensation. Use the table on the right side ofthe Humidifier Control screen to determine theproper RH setting.44. Touch theorarrows to adjust theRH accordingly, and then touch Done whenfinished.DehumidificationThe thermostat will allow you to set the desiredRH level in your home and can be used to turndehumidification on or off.5. Touch thearrow to increase the amountof humidity the dehumidifier will allow. Theair will be less dry and the dehumidifier willrun less.6. Touch thearrow to decrease the amountof humidity the dehumidifier will allow. Theair will be less humid and the dehumidifiermay run more.56If dehumidification is done with the airconditioner, the thermostat will cool up to 3 Fbeyond the cooling setpoint for dehumidification.Note: Overcooling may not be sufficient to meetthe dehumidification setpoint.Use the dehumidification adjustment to set thedehumidification setpoint to 60% when firstinstalled. Allow dehumidification to run until theinitial setpoint is reached, before deciding if youwant to change the humidity setting.Your comfort is the best measure of how toadjust your setting. When first installed, yourdehumidifier has to remove all the moisture thatis initially in your home. The home acts like asponge so the moisture in the materials of yourhome is at the same level as the air. After dryingthe air, the materials of the home will release themoisture back into the air until they are again atthe same level. As a result, it is not uncommonfor dehumidification to operate for an extendedperiod of time when it is first installed.Energy Saving Tip #1: Adjust the setting to be as high as is comfortableto reduce dehumidification run time – if it feels clammy or smells damp ormoldy, lower the setting. Set the Dehumidifier Control to Off when you openyour windows.Energy Saving Tip #2: If your home will be unoccupied for an extendedperiod during the summer, set the Dehumidifier Control setpoint to 60%RH and your cooling setpoint as high as you feel comfortable. Consultappropriate professionals regarding the highest temperature that is safe foryour pets or possessions. This will keep the humidity at a controlled level tohelp prevent mold while minimizing the amount of the cooling energy used.Vacation hold is a convenient way to adjust the dehumidification and coolingsetpoint while you are away.25
