powertext“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (Galatians6:10, NIV).Do you like organizing things and people? It’s a gift to beable to do that. The disciples had their hands full afterPentecost with people losing homes and jobs becauseof their faith. But they pulled together and everyonehad food, clothing, and a place to live. Let’s listen in onsome conversations that might have occurred within thefellowship of believers.pAt Home in My ChurchKey References: Acts 4:32-37; The Acts of the Apostles, pp. 70, 71; Seventh-day Adventists Believe, secondedition, pp. 79-90; The Bible Story, vol. 7, pp. 18-22; 97-99; Our Beliefs nos. 15, 10, 22DO Do thisweek’s activity onpage 18.er poinowt1SabbathcontentsOur church is afamily of believerswho take care ofone another. After Pentecost the number of believers continued to grow. Everyone was in awe of the miracles that the disciples performed. Theylistened eagerly to their teaching. They spent hours together praying, praising, and studying. Since they were together most of the day, theyshared their meals in one another’s homes. Those who were able soldtheir possessions and gave to people in need. For a while even nonbelievers were excited about the changes made in their friends andfamily members. The believers were a popular group of people. Then the priests, elders, and other religious leaders startedgetting nervous. They thought the new believers would get tired oftheir meetings and prayer services. But instead temple attendanceand offerings were down. Quietly the priests began to spread rumorsabout the believers. Suddenly there were splits in families betweenbelievers and nonbelievers. Following Christ was becoming moredifficult. The disciples decided it was time to do something.AT HOME IN MY CHURCHpowertext“We know that in all things God works for the good of those wholove him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans8:28, NIV).pSpreading the WordKey References: Acts 8:1-8; The Acts of the Apostles, pp. 103-111; Seventh-day Adventists Believe, secondedition, pp. 281-297. We often read about people who were driven frombrings us joy.a place because of persecution. This story is about howa teen living at the time of the early church may havereacted. (Key Text: Acts 8:1-8; The Acts of the Apostles, pp. 103-111.)The teenage girl was sure she was going to erupt. Standing outsidethe gate of Jerusalem, she leaned against a cart. Her stomach feltlike a rope that had been tied and soaked in water. The hot sun, thesight of Stephen’s body, and the women wailing in grief—all of it wastoo much. Her eyes frantically searched for her father. Spying him witha group of believers surrounding Philip, she just wanted to be nearhim. The group split up.“Abba,” she cried, clutching her stomach.“Daughter, I’m so sorry. I forgot you were with me,” he said, rushingtoward her. “You’re sick. I knew I shouldn’t have let you come.”“I want to go home,” she whimpered. Her father whipped off hisouter robe and laid it in the cart. He gently helped her in and drapedcanvas over the top to shield her from the sun.Her father knew he’d get very little rest that night. He couldn’tbelieve what he had seen today. It was definitely a turning point forthe young church. He was beginning to understand how much ofa threat the priests thought the believers were. And that man Saulmade him shudder. Although he hadn’t picked up so much as a pebble, Saul seemed to enjoy what the others did to Stephen.SPREADING THE WORDpowertext“If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, sothat in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter4:11, NIV).Can you think of something that has happened to youthat has changed your whole life? It could be the deathof a loved one, your parents’ divorce or new job, or a newbaby joining your family. How would your life have beendifferent if that event had not occurred? Today we’ll hearhow one event changed not only one man’s life, but thehistory of the entire Christian church.pBlindedKey References: Acts 9:1-19; The Acts of the Apostles, pp. 112-122; Seventh-day Adventists Believe, secondedition, pp. 91-112(APRIL 9)20DO Do thisweek’s activity onpage 32.er poinowt3Sabbath21We serve Godwhen we use thegifts He has givenus to tell othersabout His love.Start packing. We’re going tosearch out every single one of those bothersome Christians. I’ll dragthem back here by their hair if I have to.” Then he laughed.I shuddered when I heard his laugh. He sounded more excitedthan I’d ever heard him, but his excitement scared me. SometimesI wondered if he didn’t carry this hunt for Christians too far. But ofcourse I couldn’t say anything. I was just a servant.I started packing. The next morning we left. In addition to Saul’s bodyguards, wewere escorted by a company of soldiers. It would take several daysto get to Damascus. It sounded as if they were finally agreeing on something.“I think Paul and Barnabas should go to Jerusalem and talk to theapostles there,” someone said. “Let’s find out what their opinion isabout this.”“That’s a good idea, but I want some local elders to go too,” anotherreplied. “I want to make sure we’re getting an honest report.”“Does everyone agree?” asked Paul.“Yes,” everyone said together.“Good, we’ll leave as soon as possible,” Paul said. “We need to getthis straightened out quickly.”STRANGERS AMONG USKey References: Galatians 1; 2; The Acts of the Apostles, pp. 383-388; Seventh-day Adventists Believe, secondedition, pp. 79-90; The Bible Story, vol. 7, pp. 18-22; 97-99; Our Beliefs nos. 15, 10, 22powertext“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. Baptism is likebeing buried as a sinner and then rising up tolive a new life for Jesus.
