When stacked, the plates form twoseparate flow passages between the plates, thus allowing a liquid to flow between every other plate. This provides heattransfer and complete separation of the fluids and gases. With FlatPlate ’s high performance heat transfer surface, avery compact, cost effective design is the result.Four Reasons to Use GEA’s Brazed ProductsGEA PHE Systems heat exchangers have significant advantages.1.Smaller Size - GEA PHE Systems heat exchangers are 20% to 60% smaller than traditional shell & tubeand coaxial type devices. This means they use less space, weigh less and require less refrigerant charge.2.Higher Performance - Plate heat exchangers have higher heat transfer coefficients. This meansimproved performance and greater versatility for standard applications, high viscosity fluids andspecial design conditions. In addition, lower fouling rates contribute to long life efficiency.3.Lower Cost - GEA PHE Systems heat exchangers cost 10% to 30% less than other types of comparableheat exchangers. Installation costs are also lower.4.Customer Service - We provide customer service, computer selections, and excellent technical support.3GEA PHE Systems North America, Inc.

Radiant FloorSelectionsMany radiant floor applications utilize FlatPlate heat exchangers to reduce overall installed costs of the radiant floor system.This is possible when using cast-iron boilers and radiant tubing (with lower cost, no oxygen barrier), and for applicationswhere isolation of the boiler to radiant floor loops are needed. This simplifies the installation and minimizes cost.FlatPlate models also make it possible to interface steam boilers to radiant floor systems, both low pressure and highpressure steam systems (up to 300 psi) using the MPN Series.Another strong application is using a domestic hot water heater to provide heat to a radiant floor system bathroomradiant floor, or for add-on projects. This is easily accomplished using a FlatPlate model to isolate the domestic waterfrom the radiant floor loop.SELECTIONS - Radiant FloorConnected to Boiler; 180 F Supply5"x12" ModelsFP5X12L-4 (3/4" MPT)FP5X12L-6 (3/4" MPT)FP5X12L-8 (3/4" MPT)FP5X12L-10 (1" MPT)FP5X12L-12 (1" MPT)FP5X12L-14 (1" MPT)FP5X12L-16 (1" MPT)FP5X12L-20 (1-1/4" MPT)FP5X12L-24 (1-1/4" MPT)FP5X12L-30 (1-1/4" MPT)FP5X12L-36 (1-1/4" MPT)FP5X12L-40 (1-1/4" MPT)FP5X12L-50 (1-1/4" MPT)FP5X12L-60 (1-1/4" MPT)FP5X12L-70 (1-1/4" MPT)FP5X12L-80 (1-1/4" MPT)Radiant Floor: 80 F Return, 100 F SupplyBoiler Return 150 FCapacitySide-A (Boiler)Side-B (Radiant)(Btu/hr)(GPM) PD (psi) (GPM) PD .06.96.97.9Radiant Floor: 100F Return, 120 F SupplyBoiler Return 150 FSide-A (Boiler)(GPM) PD 03.23.23.13.6Side-B (Radiant)(GPM) PD .27.06.96.87.8Radiant Floor: 120 F Return, 140 F SupplyBoiler Return 160 ,000675,000825,000915,000Side-A (Boiler)(GPM) PD 44.14.86.67.9Side-B (Radiant)(GPM) PD 24.04.86.67.91.Largerunitsare available.1. Domestic Hot WaterSelectionsFor Domestic Hot Water heating applications, FlatPlate heat exchangers are ideal and offer a compact, high output capacity.Used in both hot water boiler (FP Series) and steam applications (MPN Series) these heat exchangers offer significant advantagesover shell & tube, tank & coil, U-tube bundles, and older technologies. These advantages include 1/5 the size and weight, easierinstallation and rigging, easy maintenance, faster response and rugged long life use.FlatPlate models are excellent for both new construction and replacement applications.Three types of piping installations are typical.Recirc to Tank only: In most residential and light commercial applications, a re-circ pump to the hot water tank is typical.Recirc Loop in Building: For many commercial and industrial applications, a re-circ loop in the building is used, with orwithout a hot water storage tank.Instantaneous: In a few installations, instantaneous hot water heating can be used.To select a heat exchanger for all three ofthe above Domestic Hot Water heatingapplications:Step 1Step 2Step 3SelecttheBTUHcapacity required.From the table, selectthe Heat Exchangermodel shown.Use FP models for waterboilers.Use MPN models forsteam boilers.Select your pump(s)based on the minimumrecommendedflowrates shown on thetable. Note: Table 1 isbased on 50 F to 140 Fstandard temperaturerise, and the minimumflow rates are 1.5x thecorresponding flow forthis temperature rise, tomaximize BTUH output,and minimize scaling.(If instantaneous hotwater heating, sameheat exchanger applies,but no minimum flowrequired.)Domestic Hot WateroBoiler : 180 F Supply, 150o Return3"x8" ModelsFG3X8-14 (3/4" MPT)FG3X8-14 (3/4" MPT)FG3X8-14 (3/4" MPT)FG3X8-20 (3/4" MPT)No. ofPlates14141420Capacity Side-A (Domestic)(Btu/hr)(GPM) PD 20.4Boiler : 180o F Supply, 150o Return5"x12" ModelsFG5X12-4 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-4 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-4 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-6 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-6 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-8 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-8 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-10 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-10 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-12 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-14 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-16 (3/4" MPT)FG5X12-20 (1" MPT)FG5X12-24 (1" MPT)FG5X12-24 (1" MPT)FG5X12-24 (1" MPT)FG5X12-30 (1" MPT)FG5X12-36 (1" MPT)FG5X12-36 (1" MPT)FG5X12-40 (1-1/4" MPT)FG5X12-50 (1-1/4" MPT)FG5X12-60 (1-1/4" MPT)FG5X12-70 (1-1/4" MPT)FG5X12-80 (1-1/4" MPT)No. ofPlates2024303640505060708080Side-B (Boiler)(GPM) PD (psi)1.20.23.41.25.12.66.32.5Domestic : 50o F Return, 140o SupplyNo. of Capacity Side-A (Domestic)Plates (Btu/hr)(GPM) PD 0022.31.5Boiler : 180o F Supply, 150o Return10"x20" ModelsFP10X20L-20 (1-1/2" MPT)FP10X20L-24 (1-1/2" MPT)FP10X20L-30 (2" MPT)FP10X20L-36 (2" MPT)FP10X20L-40 (2-1/2" MPT)FP10X20L-50 (2-1/2" MPT)FP10X20L-50 (2-1/2" MPT)FP10X20L-60 (2-1/2" MPT)FP10X20L-70 (2-1/2" MPT)FP10X20L-80 (2-1/2" MPT)FP10X20L-80 (2-1/2" MPT)Domestic : 50oF Return, 140o SupplySide-B (Boiler)(GPM) PD 61.39.668.210.0Domestic : 50o F Return, 140o SupplyCapacity Side-A (Domestic)(Btu/hr)(GPM) PD ,00061.41.43,000,00067.01.6Side-B (Boiler)(GPM) PD 36.39.8153.49.1170.48.6187.58.5204.59.9Larger models are available.12GEA PHE Systems North America, Inc.
