The Archdiocesan Mission Plan: Go Make DisciplesThe ‘great commission’ given by Jesus as He ascended to the Father was:to “go out and preach the Good News” to all nations, that is, toevangelise; to “baptise them” in God’s name, that is, to sacramentalise;to “teach them to do all I have commanded you”, that is, to catechise;and to “remember I am with you always”, that is to memorialise Hispresence amongst us.Though the recent popes have called us to ‘a new evangelisation’, thatmission is as old as Christianity itself. It belongs to every generation to‘go make disciples’.What is new about it is our enthusiasm, our audiences and ourapproaches. After several years of consulting and listening, researching anddiscerning through Parish 2020, we are ready at last to launch ourArchdiocesan mission plan, Go Make Disciples. It focuses on: what we can all do about evangelisation, bringing othersto encounter Christ and His friendship; what we can all do aboutleadership, influencing people toward building God’s Kingdom; what wecan all do about community, building and belonging to a communion ofsaints and saints-in-the-making; what we can all do about formation, enabling growth in faith, understanding and holiness; and what we canall do about worship, those precious encounters with God’s mercy in thesacraments, devotions and prayer. The Church in Sydney needs your gifts and generosity if we are to renewour parishes, revitalise our mission, and be the Church God is calling usto be in the 2020s and beyond. After this strange year of pandemic, it is the shot in the arm we all need. And so, with Christ Jesus Our Lord, with the apostles and popes, I chargeyou all today and every day: Go make disciples! Most Reverend Anthony Fisher OP2

LITURGY AND DEVOTIONSMONTHLYPadre Pio GroupPadre Pio envisioned prayer groups as God’s instruments of relief for asuffering world. Alone, he knew he could do little for those who aresuffering everywhere, so Padre Pio organized prayer groups which willembrace all who need help in either body or soul. LITURGY AND DEVOTIONSWEEKLYHoly EucharistThe celebration of Mass, as the action of Christ and of the People of Godarrayed hierarchically, is the center of the whole of Christian life for theChurch both universal and local, as well as for each of the faithfulindividually. For in it is found the high point both of the action by which Godsanctifies the world in Christ and of the worship that the human race offersto the Father, adoring him through Christ, the Son of God, in the Holy Spirit. In it, moreover, during the course of the year, the mysteries of redemptionare celebrated so as to be in some way made present. As to the other sacredactions and all the activities of the Christian life, these are bound up with it,flow from it, and are ordered to it.Vigil Masses: 5.00 pm6.30 pm (Spanish)Sunday Masses: 8.00 am, 10.00 am, 6.00 pm12.15 pm (Mandarin; 1st& 3rd Sundays)12.00 pm (Cantonese; 4th Sundays)Sacrament of ReconciliationThose who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God'smercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins andwhich by charity, by example, and by prayer labours for their conversion.Every Saturday: after the 9.00 am Massbefore the 5 pm Vigil Mass10

LITURGY AND DEVOTIONSWEEKLYPerpetual Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual HelpThe origin of the novena may be traced to the nine days spent by theapostles in prayer together with Our Lady after the Ascension and beforethe coming of the Holy Spirit on the tenth day of Pentecost. The PerpetualNovena is so called because the public novena services are held on aspecified day each week, such as Saturday, and continue all through theyear. Thus, a novena of Saturdays can be begun or concluded at any timeduring the year. A Private Novena can be undertaken by a family or anindividual at any time. Petitions and thanksgiving letters are warmlyaccepted.Saturdays after the 9.00 am Mass in the ChurchNovena prayers and BenedictionContact: Carmela GonzagaDevotion to St Michael the Archangel and the AngelsWe come together as a parish community to pray for the intercession of ourpatron St Michael and the Angels. Eachone of us has a guardian angel who protects and guides us and who willlead us to Heaven if we but allow it. Most of us though, go through lifeoblivious to the presence of these spiritual beings. Therefore, we aim topromote knowledge and devotion to the Holy Angels, especially to StMichael by doing home visitations. The statue of St Michael (Gargano) visits the homes of our parishioners. FrJanusz leads the prayers, gives a talk and then blesses the home and thefamily.Contact: Carmela GonzagaEmail: saintmichaelknights@gmail.com13

LITURGY AND DEVOTIONSDAILYHoly EucharistEven though it is on occasion not possible to have the presence and activeparticipation of the faithful, which manifest more clearly the ecclesialnature of the celebration, the celebration of the Eucharist is alwaysendowed with its own efficacy and dignity, since it is the act of Christ andof the Church, in which the Priest fulfills his own principal function andalways acts for the sake of the people’s salvation. Hence the Priest isrecommended to celebrate the Eucharistic Sacrifice, in so far as he can, even daily.Holy Mass: 9.15 am (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday)9.15 am (Thursday – Mass/Communion Service)Prayer of the Church (Divine Office)The Liturgy of the Hours is the richest single prayer resource of the Church, with prayers, psalms and readings for each of the Hours, changing eachday and through the seasons.Holy Rosary: after every weekday MassLeaders: Rose Polic, Max Montecillo, Rosamaria LiaThe Rosary helps us keep in mind the principal events in the life of ourSaviour Jesus Christ and to give praise and thank God.14

LITURGY AND DEVOTIONSDAILYAngelusThis is a devotion in honour of the Incarnation prayed at 6 am, midday and6 pm. Archbishop Fisher encourages the Faithful of Sydney to make theAngelus a prayer of the community at noon. The “Regina Coeli” (one of four Marian antiphons) is said in place of theAngelus during Eastertide. At 12.00 pm at the Parish Office, Bethany College, St Mary Star of theSeaDivine MercyAt 3.00 pm at the Parish OfficeThe message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us – all ofus. And, he wants us to recognize that his mercy is greater than our sins, sothat we will call upon him with trust, receive his mercy, and let it flowthrough us to others. Thus, all will come to share his joy. The message anddevotional practices proposed in the Diary of Saint Faustina are completelyin accordance with the teachings of Church and are firmly rooted in theGospel message of our Merciful Savior. Properly understood andimplemented, they will help us grow as genuine followers of Christ.Daily Adoration:Contact: Jim ManwaringMonday to Friday 9.45 am – 10.30 am; Saturday: 9.45 am – 11.30 amTuesday: 6.00 pm – 9.00 pm; Friday: 7.30 pm – 9.30 pm15
