HOW TO ADJUSTWAND LENGTHCAUTIONDO NOT place hand on wand extensionslider during operation.Adjust the length of the wand while pushingthe slider wand adjust button.Contact slider only when pushing it in toadjust wand length.Wand AdjustButtonCOMBINATION TOOLStore the combination toolon the wand when not in use. Make sure you hear a “click” sound. When the wand will not easily extend orretract, pull the wand while pushing theslider.Pull-7-

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSHOW TO START2. Plug the polarized power cord into a 120Volt outlet located near the floor.WARNINGPersonal Injury and Product DamageHazard3. Start or stopvacuum cleaner bypushing on theswitch. DO NOT plug in if switch is in ONposition. Personal injury or propertydamage could result. The cord moves rapidly whenrewinding. Keep children awayand provide a clear path whenrewinding the cord to preventpersonal injury.To rewind: Turn off and unplug the vacuumcleaner. Hold the plug while rewinding toprevent damage or injury from the movingcord. Push cord rewind button. DO NOT use outlets above counters.Damage from cord to items insurrounding area could occur. When any abnormality/failure occurs,stop using the product immediately anddisconnect the power plug.1. Pull cord out of canister to desiredlength.CordRewindButtonWARNING: To reduce the risk of electricshock, this vacuum cleaner has a polarizedplug; one blade is wider than the other. Thisplug will fit in a polarized outlet only oneway. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet,reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contacta qualified electrician to install the properoutlet. Do not change the plug in any way.-8-

If there is damage tothe cord or plug, personal injury orproperty damage could result.Use care if canister is placed on stairs.It may fall, causing personal injury orproperty damage.SUGGESTED SWEEPING PATTERNCAUTIONFor best cleaning action, the floor brushshould be pushed straight away from youand pulled straight back. At the end ofeach pull stroke, the direction of the nozzleshould be changed to point into the nextsection to be cleaned. This pattern shouldbe continued across the carpet with slow,gliding motions.Product Damage HazardDo not pull on the hose to move thecanister from one stair to the next.When finished cleaning in one areause the handle grip on the canister tomove the vacuum cleaner to a newlocation for further cleaning.NOTE: Fast, jerkystrokes do notprovide completecleaning.HOSE SWIVELFor best cleaning results, keep the airflowpassage open. Check each assembly areaoccasionally for clogs (see REMOVINGCLOGS, page 12).Turn off and unplug from outlet beforechecking.The hose swivelallows the hose toturn without movingthe canister. This ishelpful for cleaningin small areas. Checkhose for twistingbefore pullingcanister.-9-

PERFORMANCE FEATURESHOSE STANDTHERMAL PROTECTORThe vacuum cleaner can be stored with thefloor nozzle, wand and hose still connected.This vacuum cleaner has a thermalprotector which automatically trips toprotect the vacuum cleaner fromoverheating. If a clog prevents the normalflow of air to the motor, the thermalprotector turns the motor offautomatically. This allows the motor tocool in order to prevent possible damageto the vacuum cleaner.NOTE: The wand must be collapsed to theshortest length for hose stand storage.WARNINGPersonal Injury and Product DamageHazardTo correct problem: Turn off and unplugvacuum cleaner to allow the vacuumcleaner to cool and the thermal protectorto reset. Check for and remove clogs, ifnecessary. See REMOVING CLOGS (page12). Also check and replace any cloggedfilters. Wait approximately fifty (50)minutes and plug the vacuum cleaner inand turn back on to check if the thermalprotector has reset.DO NOT carry the vacuum cleaner whileit is in the storage position. Injury ordamage may result if the hose ortelescoping wand becomes unattached.1. Stand the vacuumcleaner up, align thearrows on the wandand turbine unit, andinsert the wandholder into thewand holder slot onWandthe underside of theHolder Slotcanister body.Hold HereWindSUCTION CONTROLThe turbine unit suction control allows foradjustment of the force required topush/pull the floor brush. Opening control decreases suction. Closing control increases suction.2. Hold the hoseand wind itaround thewand.- 11 -

CANISTER CAREREMOVING CLOGSHOSEWhen the hose is clogged with dust, removeit in the following manner:Handle1. Pull out the handle by turning theremoval ring in either direction.2. Remove any clogs in the handle. Shakethe hose to remove any clogs.RemovalRing3. Insert the handle in place and return thering to its original position.4. Check the dust filter cover in the dust binand clean if necessary (See CLEANINGDUST BIN, page 14).5. Check the secondary filter and clean ifnecessary (See CLEANING SECONDARYFILTER, page 17).6. Check exhaust filter and replace ifnecessary (See REPLACING EXHAUSTFILTER, page 16).CAUTIONTURBINE UNITThe turbine unit has a clean-out port forremoving clogs.1. Press latches inward and lift off clean-outport cover.2. Remove any debris or build-up.3. Reinstall cover. Make sure it iscompletely secured in place. A noticeable“click” should be heard.Product Damage HazardDo not use the hose without the handle inplace. If the hose is used without thehandle, the hose will bend excessively,causing it to crack.CLEANING EXTERIOR AND ATTACHMENTS1. Turn off and unplug vacuum cleaner. DONOT drip water on vacuum cleaner.CAUTION2. To clean exterior, or to reduce staticelectricity and dust build-up, wipe outersurface with a clean, soft cloth that hasbeen dipped in a solution of mild liquiddetergent and water, then wrung dry. Wipedry after cleaning.Do not use attachments if they are wet.Attachments used in dirty areas, such asunder a refrigerator, should not be usedon other surfaces until they are washed.They could leave marks.- 12 -

EMPTYING DUST BINWARNINGTurn off and unplug vacuum cleanerbefore emptying the dust bin.4. Empty thedust bin into atrash container.1. CLEANING DUST BIN FILTERWARNINGTurn off and unplug vacuum cleanerbefore cleaning the dust bin filter.4. Take out the cleaning brush (included) toclean the dust filter. Brush loose dirt fromthe filter folds.BrushCheck the dust bin filter frequently andclean when dirty.1. Remove the dustbin.2. Slide the lever inthe direction ofthe arrow toremove the embedded dust.Lever3. Push the filter door release button to pullback filter door and open the dust bin.5. WASHING DUST BIN4. Allow filter to dry 24 hours beforeputting back into vacuum cleaner. DONOT install damp.WARNINGTurn off and unplug vacuum cleanerbefore washing the dust bin.NOTE: It is not necessary to wash the dustfilter after each vacuum use. Only wash filterwhen it appears to be very dirty or there isa noticeable reduction in vacuum suctionperformance.1. Remove loose dust (See EMPTYING DUSTBIN, page 13).2. Push the dust filter cover release latch topull out dust filter cover.CAUTION Do no attempt to dry the dust filterwith a hair dryer or by placing it ina clothes dryer.5. Install the dust filter cover along the insideof locating strip, and make sure you heara “click.” DO NOT operate without filterinstalled.Inside oflocatingstripDust FilterCover ReleaseLatchLocatingMarkDust FilterCoverDust FilterCover3. Wash all parts of the dust bin, includingthe filter. DO NOT wash in thedishwasher.6. Close filter door and reattach dust bin tovacuum cleaner as shown.NOTES: If filter is torn or perforated, replace itbefore using vacuum. REPLACING EXHAUST FILTERWARNINGAlways unplug power cord fromelectrical outlet before replacingexhaust filter.Under normal usage, the HEPA media exhaustfilter will require replacement once everyyear. However, vacuuming large amounts ofextremely fine dust or similar material overa long period of time may decrease airflowperformance through the filter.
