We have some time on our own for lunch and perhaps to shopa little. By mid-afternoon we come together to visit the Basilica of St. Clare, where weenter and go to the upper side chapel to see and pray before the Crucifix that spoke toFrancis the command to “Rebuild My Church.” Entombed in the crypt is the incorruptbody of St. Clare. Our Tour Manager leads us down the main street of Assisi, so that wearrive at the Basilica of St. Francis. There a Franciscan friar will take us on a tour, highlighting especially its magnificent frescos by Giotto depicting the life of the saint.Special veneration will be paid to the Tomb of St. Francis. A few steps away is ourhotel, where we check in, and enjoy a leisurely evening and dinner at our hotel.B & D AssisiTuesday, September 28 - We check out and drive west about one hour to Orvieto, abeautiful hill town also in the region of Umbria. It is here that in 1263 Pope Urban IVproclaimed the authenticity of a Eucharistic miracle. A priest from Germany was makinga pious pilgrimage to Rome and had doubts of the Real Presence. Immediately after hepronounced the words of Consecration during Mass in nearby Bolsena, the Sacred Hostbled profusely. We can still see the Corporal associated with the miracle enshrined withthe Cathedral of Orvieto. From this event the Church instituted the Feast of CorpusChristi. It will be a real pleasure to explore on our own this beautiful hill town, finding aplace for lunch and even some appealing shopping. At 3:00 PM our HOLY MASS will becelebrated in the CHAPEL OF THE CORPORAL. Enshrined above the altar is the preciousrelic of the miraculous Corporal. We will be sure to admire the mosaics on theworld-famous façade of the Cathedral – an outstanding display of religious art.Ourreturn to check in at our hotel in Rome will be in time for dinner.B & D Rome
