J UNE 10, 2018From Our Pastor, Fr. Fausto .My Dear Friends,Today’s readings are a treasure of teachings aboutour evil ways and how to cope with and eliminate them. One of our tendencies is to pass the buck, and, in a tightsituation, we blame others for our own sin. Think ofAdam’s answer to God in the first reading, “The womanwhom YOU PUT HERE with me, SHE GAVE me thefruit ” So the woman is at fault, and so is God! Oncewhen I was young, an Italian won at “Totocalcio”, then hebought a Fiat 1100 and crashed (after a huge dinner, showered with Chiati wine) breaking both legs. He wasscreaming, “God why did you make me crash?”A second tendency is to demonize people that do notagree with us; are you following our U.S.A. politicalfights? “He is possessed by Beelzebul.”A third tendency, which is innate in our beings, isdefinitely our preference for our family and relatives, tothe point of being blind to other peoples’ needs (blood isthicker than water, even holy water). Jesus points out tous the reality of a family which is founded on baptism isgreater than any blood tie! If you stop and think a minute, ask yourselves the question, “Who has disappointed orbetrayed me the most?” Spouses, children, parents, siblings, blood relatives or acquired relatives usually getthe first spot!A fourth tendency is to become a power of divisionamong our brothers and sisters in Christ, blinded by sheerpride. “A kingdom divided against itself, cannot stand!”Are we not in such peril in this our good ol’ U.S.A.“Blessed are the peacemakers,” Jesus said. Let usmeditate and change our faulty mentality!Last Sunday I had the gr eat joy to shake handswith our Holy Father Francis, and to concelebrate Masswith him. But approachingall aspects of the Eucharist carefully candeepen our Communion with Christ. What wewear can help.Make it feel special. If you wer e invited to a fr iend’shouse for an evening wouldn’t you wear something niceand appropriate? Sunday Mass is a special time for youand God. Wearing good clothes makes it feel special.Send a message. Mass is also a communal celebr ation. When you look nice in church, you send a message toyour Catholic brothers and sisters that you value yourtime together in God’s house. Just because it’s “in style”doesn’t make it “in style” for God.Use this guideline. When deciding what to wear inChurch, think about this: If it’s something you would wearto a picnic, to play a sport, or to clean out the garage or thehouse, don’t wear it to church - even when on vacation.ST. Podemos prometernoscombatir el mal y el pecado comportándonos comohermanos y hermanas no solamente con el Señor, sinoCopyright J. S. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Yourorder and returned to its former quietude. You are stillthe Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of adanger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like aprovoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeminglethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invadeour land, and spread chaos and disaster. During thishurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spareus from past tragedies whose memories are still so vividand whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing oftime. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, weask you to plead with your Son on our behalf, so thatspared from the calamities common to this area andanimated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk inthe footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenlyJerusalem, where a storm less eternity awaits us. Amen.
