St. Joseph Parish, Wakefield, MAJune 2, 2019Seventh Sunday of EasterDear Parishioners,On this week’s bulletin cover, we have a picture of our Confirmation class. TheConfirmation Mass was their personal Pentecost in which they received a freshoutpouring of the Holy Spirit. Their experience is a reminder that we have receivedthe Holy Spirit to help us to grow in our relationship with Jesus and to share thegood news with others. This Friday we will have our 8th Grade parish school graduation. We pray as theygo forth to begin their high school graduation that they may continue to build uponthe foundation they received at St. Joseph School. I wish to thank our parishionersfor their support of our parish school.Caleb's CornerDear God:When we get to Heaven, can we sit on your couch?Or will it be the sameold story? We will begin a 4 week “Life in the Spirit”program beginning on Monday, June 10, startingat 6:30 p.m. in the Church. This is an occasion torenew the power of the Holy Spirit dwellingwithin us. We all received the Spirit atConfirmation but many have not takenadvantage of the gifts that the Spirit provides. This program is to help us to renew the gift ofthe Lord bestowed on us and aid us in ourjourney to the kingdom. The seminar iscomprised of talks, discussions, and prayersfollowed by praise and worship before theEucharistic Lord.As a reminder, we will have our monthlyHealing Mass this Wednesday, June 5, beginningwith the rosary at 7:00 p.m.I will be available for confession this week onMonday, June 3, from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all ofyour needs.God love you,2

St. Joseph Parish, Wakefield, MAJune 2, 2019Seventh Sunday of EasterSpiritual TeachingReflectionof theWeekWatchful CareBefore he raced out the door to school, Iasked my son if he had brushed his teeth.Asking again, I reminded him of theimportance of telling the truth. Unmoved bymy gentle admonishment, he half-jokinglyinformed me that what I really needed was asecurity camera in the bathroom. Then I couldcheck for myself if he had brushed his teethand he wouldn’t be tempted to lie.You must learn tolove with detachment.Love to love, not to be loved. While the presence of a security camera mayhelp remind us to follow the rules, there arestill places we can go unnoticed or ways wecan avoid being seen. Although we may evadeor trick a security camera, we fool ourselves ifwe think we are ever outside the gaze of God.God asks, “Who can hide in secret places sothat I cannot see them?” (Jeremiah 23:24).There is both an encouragement and awarning in His question.HOLY HOURA time of quiet music & reflectionSunday 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.PRAYER GROUPThe warning is that we cannot hide from God.We can’t outrun or fool Him. Everything wedo is visible to Him.Hour of praise and charismatic prayerMonday 7:30-8:30 p.m.The encouragement is that there is no place onearth or in the heavens where we are outsidethe watchful care of our heavenly Father.Even when we feel alone, God is with us. Nomatter where we go today, may the awarenessof that truth encourage us to choose obedienceto His Word and receive comfort—Hewatches over us. The attendant told her thatthe only gas can he owned had been loaned outbut she could wait until it was returned. Sincethe nun was on the way to see a patient, shedecided not to wait and walked back to her car.She looked for something in her car that shecould fill with gas and spotted the bedpan shewas taking to the patient. Always resourcefulshe carried the bedpan to the station, filled itwith gas, and carried the full bedpan back toher car.As she was pouring the gas from the bedpaninto her tank, two men watched from across thestreet.
