UCLA in the BowlsWhen it comes to winning bowl games,UCLA is one of the most successfulprograms in the nation. Since 1982, noPac-12 school and only 11 programs inthe nation have won more bowl gamesthan UCLA.The Bruins have won 12 of their last20 bowl appearances and their eightstraight wins (from 1982-1991) wereone shy of the national record.The 2009 EagleBank Bowl markedUCLA’s 30th bowl appearance. The J.D. Morgan CenterUCLA’s commitment to comprehensive academic support services and a desire to expand existing resources to bestserve the Bruin student-athlete of today and tomorrow remains constant. In an effort to support this ideal, UCLA’s J.D.Morgan Athletic Center underwent a major expansion that upgraded the former facility into a high-tech building for the21st century. Academic & Student Services (AS2)COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS PROGRAMThe Community of Learners Program (COL) is a year-long academicsupport program for freshman scholarship football student-athleteswhose primary goal is to support the student-athlete’s academic,athletic and social transition to college. COL student-athletescollectively participate in weekly structured study sessions, meetregularly with their assigned Academic Mentor and utilize individual andgroup peer learning services. Student-athletes are introduced to a variety of relevant topics, including goal setting, time management, careerexploration, leadership development and the importance of facultystudent interaction. The program promotes academic autonomy,academic engagement between peers and staff and overall studentathlete development.DIRECTED LEARNING PROGRAMThe Directed Learning Program (DLP) is an intensive, one-on-onestrategic academic support program designed to enhance learning.The program aims to enrich the student-athlete collegiate experiencethrough support services that help each student-athlete identify theirstrengths and weaknesses and develop skills to improve academic performance. DLP is facilitated by the AS2 Learning Specialists andAcademic Mentors trained to work collaboratively with campus resources to create a holistic learning environment focused on autonomy,self-efficacy, accountability, health and wellness. This enhancedlearning environment provides an opportunity for student-athletes toperform at their highest ability. Through directed guidance, studentathletes will learn how to set and monitor learning objectives, developand execute learning plans, and build academic skills in timemanagement, close reading, critical thinking, note taking and informationliteracy.PRODUCTION PROGRAMThe Production Program is an academic support program designedto strengthen and support academic self-sufficiency among upperclassfootball student-athletes. The Rose Bowl: Home of the BruinsThe Bruins play their home games at the historic RoseBowl in Pasadena, the most picturesque college footballstadium in America.In 2007, new spacious state-of-the-art home and visitinglocker rooms made their debut at the Rose Bowl. Thereare also new interview and photo workrooms. Priorto the 2011 season, the Rose Bowl underwent severalupgrades and renovations, including new scoreboardsand video screens.ESPN’s Game Day Show made its first-ever West Coastappearance at a Bruin home game in 1998.
