When prying panels, use masking tape on all surfacesthat a tool may come in contact with to prevent marring. After a wire tie is fully fastened, cleanly cut excess wire tielength with a pair of wire cutters. The wiring information is on an “as is” basis without anyrepresentation or warranty. It is the installer’sresponsibility to verify any circuit before interfacing with itusing a digital multi-meter. Manufacturer’s service documents can be used for anyvehicle disassembly that may be depicted differently fromwhat the instruction states. To ensure safety and normal usage of the liftgate, pleaselet a professional complete the install. Do not dismantlethe liftgate product, may cause damage to vehicle. . Start engine before installation; check dashboard displayfunction, check button operation, and check for scratchesor damage to exterior and interior. Report any issuesimmediately. Familiarize yourself with the installationinstructions. Inspect kit components to verifyFigureA1beverything is present, there is no damage, and tofamiliarize yourself with the parts.FigureB1a3. Use Seat and Floor protectors to avoid damageto vehicle surfaces.Disconnecting the battery prior to any ground or harnessremoval/ tapping to prevent possible vehicle damage isrecommended. The battery may be temporarily reconnectedand disconnected throughout the installation process toperform various tasks. However, prior to doing so allconnectors and harnesses must be reassembled andreconnected. Once tasks are completed disconnect batteryuntil installation is complete and Electric Tailgate system isready to be tested. After testing, the vehicles interior may bere-assembled. Disconnecting the battery may cause certainvehicle settings to be lost. Manufacturer’s recommendationsfor the battery removal should be followed.FigureB1bB. Disassemble Vehicle Trim1. Detach upper tailgate cover by using a NylonRemoval Tool /NRT and prying along upperFigureB2aedge. (Figure B1a-b)2. Holdtemplate in place with tape. Using the 16mm drillbit (supplied), drill at center point marked. Drillpilot hole through plastic and metal. Drill 16mmthrough plastic only. NOTE: it is important thatFigureB3byou DO NOT drill through the metal with the16mm bit, once cover is removed the holewill be drilled with 24mm bit (page 16).(Figure B3a-c)FigureB3c4. By hand pry the tailgate cover of the tailgate.FigureB4There are 8 plastic fasteners holding the panel inplace. Using an NRT pry the driver side IP panel off.FigureB10aOpen small storage compartment at the left sideof steering wheel. Remove by pressing the sidesof the compartment and releasing upper tabs,the pull outward to release lower tabs.FigureB10b(Figure 10a-b)11. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver remove theFigureB11screw holding the OBD bracket. Using a 7mmsocket remove screw holding OBD bracket.(Figure B11)12. Using a hook tool pull out on retaining clips ofFigureB12athe rear tailgate air struts. Do not remove clipcompletely, by wedging hook tool between clipand strut should allow removal of the strut.NOTE: To perform this process the installermust have a second person to hold theFigureB12btailgate up or jack stand to hold tailgate inplace. Using a 13mm socket, remove the upperliftgate strut ball mount from the tailgate. NOTEDO NOT replace the upper mount on theEncore. The Control box willmount above the support frame. Install the 2brackets as shown. The screws should run fromthe top bracket down to the lower bracket. DoFigureD1bnot crush the bracket by tightening the screwstoo tight. Place the module up into cavity andmount with the 2 smaller screws. Route the main harness through the rubbergasket. Allow enough harness to extend towardsrear to reach Control box. NOTE: use a wireFigureE4puller to pull harness through gasket. NOTE: This kit comes withFigureF12 OBD extensions. One fits 2016, one fits2017, and for 2018-19 you must directconnect to original OBD harness. Shown inthe steps F2-6 (Figure F1)2. If your OBD connector does not match theFigureF2asupplied extensions follow the next steps. Cutthe purple and white wires from one of theextensions. Connect a T-Taps to each of thegreen and black wires. Connect the white wire tothe green wire and connect the purple wire to the FigureF3bblack wire. You may also use other types ofconnectors or solder the wires, whatever yourpreference. (Figure F3a-b)4. Remount new OBD to OBD bracket using theFigureF4original screws.
