SEATSSSS0133well back and upright in the seatwith both feet on the floor andadjust the seat properly. See “Precautions on seat belt usage” (P.110).WARNING.1-2Do not ride in a moving vehiclewhen the seatback is reclined. Thiscan be dangerous. The shoulder beltwill not be against your body. In anaccident, you could be thrown into itand receive neck or other seriousinjuries. You could also slide underthe lap belt and receive seriousinternal injuries.For the most effective protectionwhen the vehicle is in motion, theseat should be upright. Always sit.After adjustment, gently rock in theseat to make sure it is securelylocked.Do not leave children unattendedinside the vehicle. They could unknowingly activate switches or controls. Unattended children couldbecome involved in serious accidents.Safety — Seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint system.To help avoid risk of injury or deaththrough unintended operation ofthe vehicle and/or its systems, donot leave children, people who require the assistance of others orpets unattended in your vehicle.Additionally, the temperature insidea closed vehicle on a warm day canquickly become high enough tocause a significant risk of injury ordeath to people and pets.The seatback should not be reclinedany more than needed for comfort.Seat belts are most effective whenthe passenger sits well back andstraight up in the seat. If the seatback is reclined, the risk of slidingunder the lap belt and being injuredis increased.CAUTIONWhen adjusting the seat positions, besure not to contact any moving parts toavoid possible injuries and/or damage.

FRONT SEATSFront manual seat adjustmentForward and backward:1 up and hold it while you slidePull the lever *the seat forward or backward to the desiredposition. Release the lever to lock the seat inposition.SSS0792Type A (if so equipped)The reclining feature allows adjustment of theseatback for occupants of different sizes foradded comfort and to help obtain proper seatbelt fit. (See “Precautions on seat belt usage”(P.1-10).) Also, the seatback can be reclined toallow occupants to rest when the vehicle isstopped and the transmission is in the P (Park)position or N (Neutral) position with the parkingbrake fully applied.JVR0342XType B (if so equipped)Reclining (Type A) (if so equipped):2 up andTo recline the seatback, pull the lever *lean back. To bring the seatback forward, pullthe lever up and lean your body forward. Releasethe lever to lock the seatback in position.Reclining (Type B) (if so equipped):To recline the seatback, turn the adjusting dial2 toward the rear of the vehicle and lean back.*To bring the seatback forward, turn the adjustingdial toward the front of the vehicle and lean yourbody forward.Safety — Seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint system 1-3

The reclining feature allows adjustment of theseatback for occupants of different sizes foradded comfort and to help obtain proper seatbelt fit. (See “Precautions on seat belt usage”(P.1-10).) Also, the seatback can be reclined toallow occupants to rest when the vehicle isstopped and the transmission is in the P (Park)position or N (Neutral) position with the parkingbrake fully applied.NOTE:. Depending on the passenger’s seatsliding position when the passengerseat is unoccupied while driving, anoise may be heard as the side partof the passenger’s seat contacts theseat belt tongue. In this case, move theseat to the rearmost position to avoidinterference. If you are having difficulty turning theadjusting dial, park the vehicle andthen open the door or get out of thevehicle to operate the dial.SSS1129Seat lifter (for driver’s seat):Pull up or push down the adjusting lever toadjust the seat height until the desired positionis achieved.SSS1142REAR SEATSFoldingBefore folding the rear seats:Secure the seat belts on the seat belt hooks onthe side wall. (See “Seat belt hooks” (P.1-15).)1 .To fold the seatback, pull the adjusting knob *To return the seatback to the seating position, liftup each seatback and push it to the uprightposition until it is latched.1-4Safety — Seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint system

HEAD RESTRAINTS/HEADRESTSCAUTIONWhen folding or returning the seatback(s) to the upright position, to avoidinjury to yourself and others:.Make sure that the seat path is clearbefore moving the seat.WARNING.Do not fold down the rear seatswhen occupants are in the rear seatarea or any objects are on the rearseats.Never allow anyone to ride in thecargo area or on the rear seatswhen they are in the fold-downposition. Use of these areas bypassengers without proper restraints could result in serious injuryin an accident or sudden stop.Properly secure all cargo with ropesor straps to help prevent it fromsliding or shifting. Do not placecargo higher than the seatbacks. Ina sudden stop or collision, unsecured cargo could cause personalinjury.When returning the seatbacks to theupright position, be certain they arecompletely secured in the latchedposition. If they are not completelysecured, passengers may be injuredin an accident or sudden stop.WARNINGHead restraint/headrest supplementthe other vehicle safety systems. Theymay provide additional protectionagainst injury in certain rear end collisions. Adjustable head restraints/headrests must be adjusted properly, asspecified in this section. Check theadjustment after someone else usesthe seat. Do not attach anything to thehead restraint/headrest stalks or remove the head restraint/headrest. Donot use the seat if the head restraint/headrest has been removed. If the headrestraint/headrest was removed, reinstall and properly adjust the headrestraint/headrest before an occupantuses the seating position. Failure tofollow these instructions can reduce theeffectiveness of the head restraint/headrest. This may increase the risk ofserious injury or death in a collision.Safety — Seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint system 1-5
