The draft will be posted onour website soon. After getting approval from International themembership will vote on the amendments during the electionprocess in June. Thus it is very important that all members taketime to review the draft and provide comments to any of thechapter officers.On the date of our regular monthly meeting, February 11, we will beat the UAA Aviation Technology Complex introducing the 99s towomen students. There will be a presentation about the 99s andinformation about our scholarships will be distributed. Time will be5:30 – 7:00 PM, pizza and sodas will be provided. Any chaptermembers wishing to attend must RSVP to me so that we assureenough food for all.Last but not least a Flying Companion seminar will be given at theAlaska Air Carriers Association Annual Conference on Tuesday,March 3rd from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a break for lunch. Theformat will be slightly modified to fit this time and the cost for thisseminar is 75.00. A flyer will be posted both on the 99s websiteand on the AACA website. Annual ChristmasDinner/PartyThe annual Christmas Dinner/Party was held onWednesday, December 10, at Bella VistaRestaurant in Peters Creek. Despite the poorweather conditions, attendance was good and onlya few were unable to attend.Members of the Alaska and Mat-Su Valley Chaptersenjoyed a good dinner and lots of fun. The “WhirlyBra” once again was a coveted gift in the ChineseAuction. It will reside in Petra’s office for the nextyear.Texas Gal inAfghanistan Nails a725 Yard Shot.On Easter the ex-cheerleader (age 19)in this picture was watching a road thatleads to a NATO military base whenshe observed a man digging by the road.She engaged the target, and she shothim. Turned out he was a bomb makerfor the Taliban and he was burying anIED that was to be detonated when aUS patrol walked by 30 minutes later. Itwould have certainly killed andwounded several soldiers.The interesting fact of this story is theshot was measured at 725 yards (that'sover seven football fields, 2100 feet.).She shot him as he was bent overburying the bomb. The shot struck himin the butt blowing into the bombwhich detonated. He was blown topieces.The Air Force made a motivationalposter of her. The presentation was part ofmany festivities being held at the Dena'inaCenter in Anchorage.Elaine served in the U. S. Army and laterworked in the field of public health. Nowretired, she has taken up writing children'sstories and poetry. She has received one firstand second prize in the National Veterans'Creative Arts Contest, as well as nine more instate events. She is currently a Lt. Colonel inthe Alaska State Defense Force and a member ofthe 99s, an international women's flyingorganization. She lives in Wasilla, Alaska.
