The theme of the 3-dayconference was “Green Urban Mobility”. The event was jointlyhosted by Government of Maharashtra and organized by theInstitute of Urban Transport (India) in partnership with MahaMetro. The Hon'ble Chief Minister, Government of MaharashtraShri Devendra Fadnavis presided over the session. 02PLATINUM RATING - IGBC GREEN MRTS CERTIFICATION –EGMORE METROIGBC Green Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) rating was launched by The Indian Green Building Council(IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to encourage green concepts in the design, construction& operation of all new Rail based MRTS projects focusing on National priorities like conserving natural resources,demand side energy & water efficiency, adoption of renewable energy, management of waste and commuterhealth & comfort.IGBC Green Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) rating was launched to encourage green concepts in thedesign, construction & operation of Rail based MRTS addressing green features of site selection and planning,water efficiency, energy efficiency, material conservation, indoor environment and comfort and innovation indesign and construction. To achieve the Green MRTS rating, the project must satisfy the mandatoryrequirements and achieve minimum number of credit points.Egmore metro station is a multi-modal integration hub connected with existing Egmore railway station,sub-urban railway system and dedicated bus-transit bay. The key features of the project include;1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10.11.12.13.14.Multi modal integration hubTransit oriented modal linkHuge parking space for commutersPromotion of bicycles and electric vehiclesPSD doors,Low flow fixturesGHG reduction over 50%SCADAHigh use of local materials (84%) and recyclecontent (30%) in materials100% Rain Water Harvesting.100% reduction of the construction Waste,61% CO2 emission reduction over estimatedbaseline emissions,Painted and insulated roofs at street levelstructures,Pervious and light coloured pavers at non roof level to reduce the macro level heat island reduction,Based on the above measures addressing the categories as mentioned, the entire process of IGBCcertification was carried out for Egmore Metro station. On the basis of the documentation, 82 points of 90 pointsin total was achieved, obtaining the highest IGBC rating Platinum rating.2nd Runner up award to CMRL team atNational Level “Indian Green League, 2018”organized by IGBCThe CMRL team comprising of following architect officers,participated and won 2nd Runner up award along with an internationaltrip to south-east Asia, at National Level “Indian Green League, 2018”organized by IGBC among 135 contesting teams from 9 cities nationwidein the finals conducted in “Green Building Congress, 2018” aninternational green conference held at HICC, Hyderabad on 2ndNovember 20181. 03Chennai Metro Rail Limited in association with MOHAN Foundationorganized a Visual Arts Competition – LIFE 2.0“Art for a cause”Chennai Metro Rail Limited in association with MOHAN Foundationorganised a Visual Arts Competition – LIFE 2.0 on the theme ofOrgan Donation for students from various schools and colleges inChennai District. The competition, a first of its kind in Tamil Nadu,took place on 24th November 2018, Saturday at the VadapalaniMetro Station from 3:00 PM to 6:00PM.About 200 students from 12 schools and 3 colleges participated inusing Art to promote a cause. Mr.Reji Joseph a prominent Artist ofChennai, Dr Rajeshwari, Trauma Ward In-charge of Rajiv GandhiGovernment Medical College and Mr.Clinton, Art teachers aid ofInternational School were the judges.Cash Awards and gifts were distributed to the students holding thefirst, second and third positions in three categories which werePhotography, Paintings and Illustrations. The competition includedvarious categories which were Paintings, Photographs, Cartoons,Installations, Illustrations and Graphics. Mohan Foundation also setup an exhibition of Paintings done by Iranian Artists under theNAFAS Festival.With 1186 multi-organ donors as of October 2018, Tamil Nadu isone of the leading states in organ donation in the country. Thesedonors have given life to more than 5000 patients through organand tissue donation. This visual arts competition aims at spreadingthe message of organ donation through art and also celebrate theact of gifting a second chance at life, and hence the title LIFE 2.0.This event also marks the 4th collaboration between MOHANFoundation and CMRL who have been constantly supporting theFoundation's activities and are greatly passionate about the cause.

04CMRL introduced Miyawaki technique at Thiru vi ka ParkThiru vi ka Park, served asan urban park to nearbyresidents. The existingShenoy Nagar MetroStation, lies at theunderground of park,bifurcates park into 2halves. It is proposed todevelop an undergroundCommuter AmenitiesCentre on either sides ofexisting Shenoy Nagar Station. The current proposal ofCommuter amenity center is to give its neighborhoodits vertebrate back by recreating the Park. It isproposed to develop the Underground PassengerAmenities Centre with Basement 1 and Basement 2 onthe East and West side of the existing Shenoy Nagarstation.In connection, a total of 5000 no's of saplings containing30 different types of native trees have been planted atShenoy Nagar Thiru vi ka Park. A total of 1250 no's ofsaplings each at the 4 corners by CMRL as per MiyawakiForest Technique. The 30 different types of native treesincludes Arasu, Neem, Naval, Neer Maruthu, Mango,Pomegranate, Athi, Vilvam, Pungan, Ezhilai Palai,Stekuliya, Malai Vembu,, Sarakondrai, Azhoka,Jaikiranda, Rose Wood, Poovarasu, Arali, Magizham,Nelli, Teak, Maruthani, Punnai, Pavalamalli, Eluppai,Night Jasmine, Mantharai.CMRL has already implemented Miyawaki technique atCMRL Admin Building, Koyambedu in 2017, Miyawakitechnique is a man-made forest method ofafforestation that utilizes only 1/10th of land areaequivalent to forest compared to conventionalmethod. This man made forest improves the ecologicaland balancing the surrounding environmentalconditions. This will lead to more oxygen production aswell as absorbing more carbon dioxide and making theenvironment clean especially in the metropolitancities.The concept of Thiru.Vi.Ka Park redevelopment is torecreate the park by providing its neighborhood itsvertebrate back, which is done through properplanning of different spaces, zones and activitiesprovided within the street level/park. Most of theexisting trees would be preserved, restored andtransplanted in the park at appropriate locations. Thefacilities which were present at the park earlierincludes fountain, jogging track, children play area,vertical landscape, yoga pavilion, reading zone,meditation zone and much more. The same would berestored with enhancement. Landscape lawns areprovided at the street levels with deep-rooted treesaplings along the periphery of the park. The MiyawakiConcept Forest has been planned at the four corners ofthe park by grouping of various indigenous species ofplants together.CHENNAI METRO RAIL GOES GREENFor commissioning ofoperational services tillWashermanpet Metro , CMRLwould require power to the tune of20 MVA for traction and nontraction applications. In thisconnection, in order to reducecarbon foot print, CMRL hasappointed a consultancy firm forinitiating such process to procurefrom various renewable energysources like solar, wind etc atcompetitive prices through OPENACCESS thereby saving crores onannual basis.CMRL being very much committedto achieve energy security, toreduce carbon emission & Greenenergy concept by generatingrenewable energy by installingRoof Top Solar PV Power System indifferent premises of Roof TopArea and Ground Area of Metro Raildepot, Elevated and Under GroundStations.CMRL successfully installed andcommissioned another 1120 KWpSolar PV Power Plant in Roof Top areaof two Elevated Stations namelyAlandur and St. Thomas MountStations and in the Ground areas atMetro Rail Depot Koyambedu whichis expected to generate around1,51,200 units per month and savesaround Rs. 69, 49,152 per year.These Solar Plant Projects wereexecuted under Zero CapitalInvestment by CMRL and based onRESCO Model under Solar energyCorporation of India (SECI ) Scheme,on monthly Tariff basis payment. Thismethod of Generated Solar Powerwill be utilised for technical demands.Now the installed capacity of RoofTop Solar Power by CMRL is 3.0 MW intotal. Another 4.6 MW Roof Top SolarPower installation is under progressand is expected to be completed byend of this year 2018.Solar PV Power Plant in Roof Top areaof two Elevated Stations namelyAlandur and St. Thomas MountStations and in the Ground areas atMetro Rail Depot Koyambedu whichis expected to generate around1,51,200 units per month and savesaround Rs. 69, 49,152 per year.These Solar Plant Projects wereexecuted under Zero CapitalInvestment by CMRL and based onRESCO Model under Solar energyCorporation of India (SECI ) Scheme,on monthly Tariff basis payment.This method of Generated SolarPower will be utilised for technicaldemands. 05Revision in fares of Share Auto and Share Taxi Servicesat Metro StationsAs part of providing last mile connectivity to Metro Rail passengers, CMRL had taken an initiative of providingFeeder services through Share auto and Share Taxi services at selected Metro Stations.In this connection, the last mile ticket fare for Share Autoservices has been reduced from Rs. 10/- to Rs. 5/- per ticketand for Share Taxi services from Rs. 15/- to Rs. 10/- per ticket.The revision shall be made w.e.f Monday (12.11.2018) up toThursday (31.1.2019) on a trial basis as an encouragement forthe passengers to avail the Feeder Services. So far, around47,628 passengers have utilized the Feeder Services for themonth of August and September 2018.For the month of October 2018, a total of 28,032 passengershave utilized the Share Auto and Share Taxi facilities in which6,442 passengers have utilized the Share Taxi services and atotal of 21,590 passengers have utilized the Share Autoservices. For October month around 7,561 passengers haveavailed the Share Auto and Share Taxi feeder services inKoyambedu and Alandur Metro stations alone.Educational trips for Government School Students for the month ofOctober and November 2018“Extending the frontiers of knowledge for the young minds”In an attempt to bring awareness to the students of Government Schools aboutthe metro train across the Metro Rail alignment in the city, CMRL has beenundertaking monthly educational trips from Central Metro to Airport and AGDMS to Airport for the students. The features of the Metro Train and its Stationswere explained to the students.Students from Government and Corporation Schools are being given theeducational trips during the academic year 2018-19. In the month of November,2018 a total number of 3,028 students traveled in Metro train and werebenefitted. The educational trips for the academic year 2018-19 commencedfrom 21.06.18 and around 21,449 students from Government and CorporationSchools have gone on this educational trip till date.EditorThiru S. In addition to this Chennai Metro RailLimited in association Inter National Association Of Human Values as a part ofsocial responsibility activity conducted a Joy Ride for the blind students ofNETHRODAYA in the Metro Train on 18.11.2018 from Thirumangalam to Airport.A total number of 40 differently-abled children accompanied with 5 of theirteachers and 35 volunteers participated in this trip enthusiastically.
